TORQUE SPECIFICATIONS

The interior trim and ornamentation section consists of the following components

1. Front door trim panels
2. Rear door trim panels

Removal and Installation

1. Position the bottom-half of the front door weatherstrip aside.
2. Position the bottom-half of the rear door weatherstrip aside.
3. Remove the rear seat bolster. For additional information, refer to «SEATING»(/ford/five-hundred/i-2004-2007/remont/seats/#seat-system) .
4. Position the rear of the scuff plate trim panel away from the body mounting stud.
5. Remove the lower B-pillar trim panel. Pull the lower B-pillar trim panel toward the center of the vehicle to release the retaining clips.
6. Pull the front of the scuff plate trim panel upward to release the retaining clips.
7. Pull the rear of the scuff plate trim panel upward to release the retaining clips.
8. Pull the middle of the scuff plate trim panel toward the inside of the vehicle to release the alignment guides from the lower B-Pillar trim panel.
9. Remove the scuff plate trim panel.
10. To install, reverse the removal procedure.

Scheme 15

1. Depower the supplemental restraint system (SRS). For additional information, refer to «SUPPLEMENTAL RESTRAINT SYSTEM»(/ford/five-hundred/i-2004-2007/remont/airbag/#supplemental-inflatable-restraint-system) .
2. Remove the lower B-Pillar trim panel. Pull the lower B-Pillar trim panel toward the center of the vehicle to release the retaining clips.
3. Position the front seat forward for access.
4. Remove the front safety belt anchor-to-seat nut cover.
5. Remove the front safety belt anchor-to-seat nut. To install, tighten to 40 Nm (30 lb-ft).
6. Disconnect the belt tension sensor electrical connector.
7. Remove the B-pillar screw cover.
8. Remove the B-pillar screw.
9. Remove the upper B-pillar trim panel. Pull the lower portion of the upper B-pillar trim panel toward the center of the vehicle to release the retaining clips. Lower the upper B-pillar trim panel from the headliner. Separate the upper B-pillar trim panel from the front safety belt.
10. To install, reverse the removal procedure.

1. Remove the rear seat bolster. For additional information, refer to «SEATING»(/ford/five-hundred/i-2004-2007/remont/seats/#seat-system) .
2. Remove the C-pillar trim panel screw cover.
3. Remove the C-pillar trim panel screw.
4. Remove the C-pillar trim panel. Pull the forward bottom edge of the lower C-pillar toward the center of the vehicle. Separate the lower C-pillar from the D-pillar trim panel. Position the C-pillar trim panel toward the inside of the vehicle. Separate the C-pillar trim panel from the rear safety belt.
5. To install, reverse the removal procedure.

1. Remove the C-pillar trim screw cover.
2. Remove the C-pillar trim screw.
3. Remove the 2nd row safety belt anchor-to-floor bolt. To install, tighten to 40 Nm (30 lb-ft).
4. Remove the C-pillar trim panel. Pull the C-pillar trim panel toward the inside of the vehicle to release the retaining clips.
5. To install, reverse the removal procedure.

D-Pillar Trim Panel - Five Hundred, Montego

1. Remove the C-pillar trim panel. For additional information, refer to «C-Pillar Trim Panel - Five Hundred, Montego»(/ford/five-hundred/i-2004-2007/remont/exteriorinterior-trim/#interior-trim-and-ornamentation) .
2. If equipped with side curtain air bags, remove the screw from the D-pillar.
3. Remove the D-pillar. Pull the front inboard edge of the D-pillar trim panel down to release the retaining clips. Gently pull the outboard retaining clips down. Pull the D-pillar trim panel toward the front of the vehicle to remove.
4. To install, reverse the removal procedure.

1. Remove the 3rd row safety belt anchor-to-floor bolt cover from the rear quarter trim panel.
2. Remove the 3rd row safety belt anchor-to-floor bolt. To install, tighten to 40 Nm (30 lb-ft).
3. Remove the D-pillar trim panel. Remove the D-pillar trim panel screw cover and screw. Pull the D-pillar trim panel toward the inside of the vehicle to release the retaining tabs.
4. To install, reverse the removal procedure.

1. Remove the liftgate scuff plate trim panel.
2. Remove the C-pillar trim panel. For additional information, refer to «C-Pillar Trim Panel - Freestyle»(/ford/five-hundred/i-2004-2007/remont/exteriorinterior-trim/#interior-trim-and-ornamentation) or «C-Pillar Trim Panel - Five Hundred, Montego»(/ford/five-hundred/i-2004-2007/remont/exteriorinterior-trim/#interior-trim-and-ornamentation) .
3. Remove the D-pillar trim panel. For additional information, refer to «D-Pillar Trim Panel - Five Hundred, Montego»(/ford/five-hundred/i-2004-2007/remont/exteriorinterior-trim/#interior-trim-and-ornamentation__d-pillar-trim-panel-five-hundred) or «D-Pillar Trim Panel - Freestyle»(/ford/five-hundred/i-2004-2007/remont/exteriorinterior-trim/#interior-trim-and-ornamentation) .
4. Position the bottom portion of rear door weatherstrip aside to gain access to rear portion of scuff plate trim panel.
5. Position the rear portion of the scuff plate trim panel aside to gain access to the rear quarter trim panel retaining screw.
6. Remove the rear quarter trim panel retaining screw.
7. Position the 2nd row seats in the flat position.
8. Position the 3rd row seats in the flat position.
9. Remove the 3rd row safety belt anchor-to-floor bolt trim cover.
10. Remove the 3rd row safety belt anchor-to-floor bolt. To install, tighten to 40 Nm (30 lb-ft).
11. Remove the cargo net retaining hooks.
12. Position the rear of the rear quarter trim panel away from the body.
13. Disconnect the auxiliary power electrical connector.
14. Remove the rear quarter trim panel. Pull the rear quarter trim panel toward the inside of the vehicle to release the retaining clips.
15. To install, reverse the removal procedure.

Front Door Trim Panel

Scheme 16

1. Remove the exterior mirror trim cover.
2. Disconnect the exterior mirror control switch electrical connector.
3. Remove the front door handle bezel screw cover.
4. Remove the front door handle bezel screw.
5. Remove the front door handle bezel.
6. Remove the 2 front door handle trim cover screws
7. Remove the 6 front door trim panel screws.
8. Position the front door trim panel by pulling straight away from the front door to release the retaining clips.
9. Disconnect the power window/door lock switch electrical connector.
10. If equipped with power memory seat, disconnect the power memory seat electrical connector.
11. Remove the front door trim panel.
12. To install, reverse the removal procedure.

Rear Door Trim Panel

Scheme 17

1. Remove the rear door handle bezel screw cover.
2. Remove the rear door handle bezel screw.
3. Remove the rear door handle bezel.
4. Remove the rear door handle trim cover screw.
5. Remove the 6 rear door trim panel screws.
6. Position the rear door trim panel by pulling straight away from the rear door to release the retaining clips.
7. Disconnect the power window switch.
8. Remove the rear door trim panel.
9. To install, reverse the removal procedure.

Scheme 18

1. Remove the upper trim panel by pulling toward the middle of the liftgate window glass to release the retaining clips.
2. Remove the 2 liftgate trim screws.
3. Remove the lower liftgate trim panel by pulling straight outward.
4. To install, reverse the removal procedure.

Scheme 19

1. Remove the rear seat cushion. For additional information, refer to «SEATING»(/ford/five-hundred/i-2004-2007/remont/seats/#seat-system) .
2. Remove the rear seat bolsters. For additional information, refer to «SEATING»(/ford/five-hundred/i-2004-2007/remont/seats/#seat-system) .
3. Remove the C-pillar trim panel. For additional information, refer to «C-Pillar Trim Panel - Five Hundred, Montego»(/ford/five-hundred/i-2004-2007/remont/exteriorinterior-trim/#interior-trim-and-ornamentation) .
4. Remove the center seat belt bezel.
5. Remove the rear center safety belt anchor nut. To install, tighten to 40 Nm (30 lb-ft).
6. Disconnect the high-mounted stop lamp electrical connector.
7. Remove the 3 parcel tray pin-type retainers.
8. Pull the parcel tray toward the front of the vehicle to remove.
9. To install, reverse the removal procedure.

Headliner - Five Hundred, Montego

Scheme 20

1. For vehicles not equipped with side safety curtains, depower the SRS. For additional information, refer to «SUPPLEMENTAL RESTRAINT SYSTEM»(/ford/five-hundred/i-2004-2007/remont/airbag/#supplemental-inflatable-restraint-system) .
2. Remove the LH and RH A-pillar trim panels. Position the weatherstrip aside near the A-pillar. Pull the top outboard edge of the A-pillar trim panel toward the inside of the vehicle to disengage the retaining clips. Pull the A-pillar trim panel upward to remove from the dash panel.
3. Disconnect the passenger side door check strap.
4. Remove the passenger side front seat. For additional information, refer to «SEATING»(/ford/five-hundred/i-2004-2007/remont/seats/#seat-system) .
5. Remove the front floor console. For additional information, refer to «INSTRUMENT PANEL AND CONSOLE»(/ford/five-hundred/i-2004-2007/remont/gauges-instrument-panels/#instrument-panel-and-console) .
6. Remove the LH and RH B-pillar trim panels. For additional information, refer to «B-Pillar Trim Panel»(/ford/five-hundred/i-2004-2007/remont/exteriorinterior-trim/#interior-trim-and-ornamentation) .
7. Remove the LH and RH C-pillar trim panels. For additional information, refer to «C-Pillar Trim Panel - Five Hundred, Montego»(/ford/five-hundred/i-2004-2007/remont/exteriorinterior-trim/#interior-trim-and-ornamentation) .
8. Remove the 3 handle assemblies from the headliner. Disconnect the handle assembly screw covers. Remove the handle assembly screws.
9. Remove the LH and RH sun visor assemblies. Remove the 3 sun visor retaining screws. Disconnect the sun visor wire harness electrical connector. Remove the sun visor arm clip screw. Remove the sun visor arm clip.
10. Remove the overhead console. Open the bin and remove the screws. Disconnect the overhead console electrical connector.
11. If equipped, disconnect the roof opening panel trim ring dual-lock from the roof opening panel.
12. If equipped, disconnect the roof opening panel electrical connector.
13. If equipped, disconnect the auto-dimming electrical connector from the interior rear view mirror.
14. If equipped, disconnect the compass sensor electrical connector from the compass sensor.
15. Disconnect the electrical connector located on the A-pillar. Disconnect the wiring harness tree-clips located on the A-pillar.
16. If equipped, disconnect the safety canopy bridge resistor electrical connector.
17. Remove the 3 trim panel retaining clips from the rear of the headliner. Remove the center retaining clip, using a push pin-puller and the 2 outer clips, using a thin-blade screwdriver to depress engagement tabs.
18. Position the driver side front seat rearward and recline.
19. Remove the headliner. Lower the headliner. Rotate the headliner 90 degrees clockwise and remove the headliner through the right front door opening.
20. To install, reverse the removal procedure.

Headliner - Freestyle

Scheme 21

1. For vehicles not equipped with side safety curtains, depower the SRS. For additional information, refer to «SUPPLEMENTAL RESTRAINT SYSTEM»(/ford/five-hundred/i-2004-2007/remont/airbag/#supplemental-inflatable-restraint-system) .
2. Remove the LH and RH A-pillar trim panels. Pull the top of the A-pillar trim panel toward the inside of the vehicle. Pull the A-pillar trim panel upward to remove from the dash panel.
3. Remove the LH and RH scuff plate trim panels. For additional information, refer to «SCUFF PLATE TRIM PANEL»(/ford/five-hundred/i-2004-2007/remont/exteriorinterior-trim/#interior-trim-and-ornamentation) .
4. Remove the LH and RH B-pillar trim panels. For additional information, refer to «B-Pillar Trim Panel»(/ford/five-hundred/i-2004-2007/remont/exteriorinterior-trim/#interior-trim-and-ornamentation) .
5. Remove the LH and RH C-pillar trim panels. For additional information, refer to «C-Pillar Trim Panel - Freestyle»(/ford/five-hundred/i-2004-2007/remont/exteriorinterior-trim/#interior-trim-and-ornamentation) .
6. Remove the LH and RH D-pillar trim panels. For additional information, refer to «D-Pillar Trim Panel - Freestyle»(/ford/five-hundred/i-2004-2007/remont/exteriorinterior-trim/#interior-trim-and-ornamentation) .
7. Remove the 3 handle assemblies from the headliner. Disconnect the handle assembly screw covers. Remove the handle assembly screws.
8. Remove the LH and RH sun visor assemblies. Remove the 3 sun visor retaining screws. Disconnect the sun visor wire harness electrical connector. Remove the sun visor arm clip screw. Remove the sun visor arm clip.
9. Remove the overhead console. Open the bin and remove the screws. Disconnect the overhead console electrical connector.
10. If equipped, disconnect the roof opening panel electrical connector.
11. If equipped, disconnect the auto-dimming electrical connector from the interior rear view mirror.
12. If equipped, disconnect the compass sensor electrical connector from the compass sensor.
13. Disconnect the electrical connector located on the A-pillar. Disconnect the wiring harness tree-clips located on the A-pillar.
14. If equipped, remove the rear entertainment system. For additional information, refer to «VIDEO SYSTEM»(/ford/five-hundred/i-2004-2007/remont/entertainment-systems/#video-system) .
15. Disconnect the rear window washer hose connection at the A-pillar. Disconnect the hose routing clips located at the A-pillar.
16. Disconnect the rear window washer hose connection at the D-pillar.
17. If equipped, disconnect the rear A/C electrical connector located at the LH D-pillar.
18. If equipped, disconnect the safety canopy bridge resistor electrical connector.
19. Remove the 3 trim panel retaining clips from the rear of the headliner.
20. Remove the liftgate opening weatherstrip.
21. Remove the headliner. Lower the headliner. Remove the headliner through the liftgate opening.
22. To install, reverse the removal procedure.
