Universal Transmitter

The HomeLink(R) universal transmitter is an integral part of the LH sun visor. The universal transmitter provides a convenient way to substitute up to 3 hand-held transmitters with a single built-in device. The transmitter can learn the radio frequency codes of most current transmitters to operate garage doors, entry gates, security systems, and home or office lighting.

Refer to SYSTEM WIRING DIAGRAMS (Montego), SYSTEM WIRING DIAGRAMS (Five Hundred), or SYSTEM WIRING DIAGRAMS (Freestyle) for schematic and connector information.

Inspection and Verification

  1. Verify the customer concern.
  2. Visually inspect for obvious signs of mechanical damage. VISUAL INSPECTION CHART Mechanical Universal transmitter Receiver
  3. If an obvious cause for an observed or reported concern is found, correct the cause (if possible) before proceeding to the next step.
  4. If the cause is not visually evident, verify the symptom and GO to «SYMPTOM CHART»(/ford/five-hundred/i-2004-2007/remont/accessories-control-systems/#remote-convenience-system__symptom-chart) .

Normal Operation

The universal transmitter receives voltage on circuit 705 (LG/OG) and ground on circuit 1205 (BK).

Possible Causes

  1. circuit 705 (LG/OG) open or short to ground
  2. circuit 1205 (BK) open
  3. HomeLink(R) transmitter

  1. A1 CHECK THE HOMELINK(R) TRANSMITTER Check the illumination of the transmitter. Does the transmitter illuminate? Yes : GO to A2. No : GO to A3 .
  2. A2 PROGRAM A HAND-HELD TRANSMITTER INTO A UNIVERSAL TRANSMITTER Program the universal transmitter. Refer to «UNIVERSAL TRANSMITTER PROGRAMMING»(/ford/five-hundred/i-2004-2007/remont/accessories-control-systems/#remote-convenience-system__universal-transmitter-programming) . Does the universal transmitter program successfully? Yes : The universal transmitter is OK. VERIFY the receiver operates correctly. No : INSTALL a new LH sun visor assembly. TEST the system for normal operation.
  3. A3 CHECK CIRCUIT 705 (LG/OG) FOR VOLTAGE Key in OFF position. Disconnect: LH Vanity Mirror Lamp C907. Key in ON position. Measure the voltage between the LH vanity mirror lamp C907-1, circuit 705 (LG/OG), harness side and ground. Is the voltage greater than 10 volts? Yes : GO to A4. No : REPAIR the circuit. TEST the system for normal operation.
  4. A4 CHECK CIRCUIT 1205 (BK) FOR AN OPEN Key in OFF position. Measure the resistance between the LH vanity mirror lamp C907-2, circuit 1205 (BK), harness side and ground. Is the resistance less than 5 ohms? Yes : INSTALL a new LH sun visor assembly. TEST the system for normal operation. No : REPAIR the circuit. TEST the system for normal operation.

Universal Transmitter Programming

WARNINGA garage door opening system that cannot stop or reverse itself after detecting an object in its path does not meet current federal safety standards. To decrease the risk of serious injury or death, do not use this HomeLink(R) universal transmitter with a door opening system that lacks stop and reverse features as required by federal standards. This includes any garage door opening system manufactured before April 1, 1982.

  1. Verify the hand-held transmitter is operative.
  2. Prepare for programming the universal transmitter. Erase all 3 channels by holding down the 2 outside buttons until the red light begins to flash (20-30 seconds). Release both buttons.
  3. Select 1 of the 3 universal transmitter channels to be programmed by pressing the desired button.
  4. Hold the end of the hand-held transmitter 25-51 mm (1-2 inches) from the front surface of the universal transmitter so that the red light can still be seen.
  5. Use both hands to press the hand-held transmitter button and the desired button on the universal transmitter. Do not release either button.
  6. Hold down both buttons until the red light on the universal transmitter flashes, first slowly and then rapidly. Release both buttons when the rapid flashing begins. The universal transmitter has successfully learned the new frequency signal and can be used in place of the hand-held transmitter(s).
  7. To operate, press the appropriate button on the universal transmitter. The red light is on while the signal is being transmitted.

Training a Garage Door Opener Equipped With Rolling Codes

  1. Program the hand-held transmitter to the universal transmitter. For additional information, refer to «UNIVERSAL TRANSMITTER PROGRAMMING»(/ford/five-hundred/i-2004-2007/remont/accessories-control-systems/#remote-convenience-system__universal-transmitter-programming) .
  2. Train the garage door opener receiver to recognize the universal transmitter. Remove the cover panel from the garage door opener receiver. Locate the training button on the garage door opener receiver. Location and color of the button may vary by manufacturer. Refer to the «GARAGE DOOR OPENER»(/ford/five-hundred/i-2004-2007/remont/accessories-control-systems/#remote-convenience-system__training-a-garage-door-opener-equipped) instruction manual or Owner's Literature. Press the training button on the garage door opener receiver for 1-2 seconds. Press the programmed universal transmitter button for as long as the universal transmitter red light flashes (1-2 seconds). Release the button and re-press the button to confirm that the universal transmitter is trained to the receiver. The garage door opener should recognize the universal transmitter.

Erasing Channels

  1. To erase all 3 programmed channels, hold down the 2 outside buttons until the red light begins to flash (20-30 seconds). Release both buttons.
