INSPECTION & VERIFICATION
Note. The Generic Electronic Module/Central Timer Module (GEM/CTM) must be reconfigured upon replacement. See NGS tester configuration card help screen to program tire size and axle ratio.
Verify customer concern by operating windows to duplicate condition. Visually inspect components. If inspection reveals an obvious concern which can be easily serviced, correct malfunction before continuing inspection and verification.
SELF-DIAGNOSTICS
The power windows utilize a self-diagnostic system which may store a Diagnostic Trouble Code (DTC) if a problem exists in the system. DTCs may be retrieved using NGS tester and Data Link Connector (DLC) for diagnosis of system. Before performing any testing, a preliminary procedure should be performed. See PRELIMINARY PROCEDURE.
SYSTEM TESTING
| CAUTION | When battery is disconnected, vehicle computer and memory systems may lose memory data. Driveability problems may exist until computer systems have completed a relearn cycle. See COMPUTER RELEARN PROCEDURES article in the GENERAL INFORMATION section before disconnecting battery. |
TEST A: ALL POWER WINDOWS ARE INOPERATIVE
Note. This test is associated with DTCs B1302, B1304, B1313, B1315 and B1342.
- Check Ignition States - Turn ignition off. Using NGS tester, access GEM PID IGN_GEM. Monitor GEM PID IGN_GEM PID while rotating ignition switch through START, RUN, OFF and ACC positions. If GEM PID IGN_GEM values agree with ignition switch positions, go to next step. If GEM PID IGN_GEM values do not agree with ignition switch positions, repair or replace ignition switch and retest system operation.
- Retrieve DTCs - Using NGS tester, retrieve and record continuous DTCs. Using NGS tester, perform GEM On-Demand Self-Test. If no DTCs are retrieved, go to next step. If DTCs B1313 and/or B1315 are retrieved, go to next step. If DTCs B1302 and/or B1304 are retrieved, go to step 4). If DTC B1342 is retrieved, replace GEM. Clear DTCs and retest operation.
- Check Battery Saver Relay Coil Circuit - Turn ignition switch to RUN position. Using NGS tester, access GEM PID BATSAV. Monitor GEM PID BATSAV while triggering GEM active command mode BATT SAVR on and off. If GEM PID BATSAV value agrees with command mode, go to next step. If NGS tester indicates OFFO-G or ON-B-, repair appropriate battery saver relay circuit. See appropriate wiring diagram in ILLUMINATION/INTERIOR LIGHTS article.
- Check Accessory Delay Relay Coil Circuit - Using NGS tester, access GEM PID ACCDLY. Monitor GEM PID ACCDLY while triggering GEM active command mode ACCY RLY on and off. If NGS tester indicates OFFO-G, go to next step. If NGS tester indicates ON-B-, go to step 8). If ACCDLY PID values agree with command mode and vehicle is 2-door model, go to step 11). If ACCDLY PID values agree with command mode and vehicle is 4-door model, go to step 10).
- Check Voltage To Accessory Delay Relay Coil - Turn ignition off. Remove accessory delay relay (located in relay module, behind center of instrument panel). Using a voltmeter, check voltage between ground and accessory delay relay connector terminal No. 86 (Light Green/Orange wire). (Scheme 1) If voltage is more than 10 volts, go to next step. If voltage is 10 volts or less, repair Light Green/Orange wire and retest system operation.
- Check Accessory Delay Relay - Check accessory delay relay. See «ACCESSORY DELAY RELAY»(ref-29364-S40910916182001010800000) under COMPONENT TESTS. If accessory delay relay is okay, go to next step. If accessory delay relay does not test as specified, replace accessory delay relay. Clear DTCs and retest system operation.
- Check Light Blue/Red Wire For Open - Disconnect 18-pin GEM connector C283 (located behind center of instrument panel). Using an ohmmeter, check resistance in Light Blue/Red wire between accessory delay relay connector terminal No. 85 and 18-pin GEM connector C283 terminal No. 17. (Scheme 1)and (Scheme 2). If resistance is less than 5 ohms, replace GEM. Clear DTCs and retest system operation. If resistance is 5 ohms or more, repair open in Light Blue/Red wire. Clear DTCs and retest system operation.
- Check Accessory Delay Relay - Check accessory delay relay. See «ACCESSORY DELAY RELAY»(ref-29364-S40910916182001010800000) under COMPONENT TESTS. If accessory delay relay is okay, go to next step. If accessory delay relay does not test as specified, replace accessory delay relay. Clear DTCs and retest system operation.
- Check Light Blue/Red Wire For Short To Power - Disconnect 18-pin GEM connector C283 (located behind center of instrument panel). Turn ignition switch to RUN position. Using a voltmeter, check voltage between ground and accessory delay relay connector terminal No. 85 (Light Blue/Red wire). (Scheme 1) If any voltage is present, repair short to power in Light Blue/Red wire. Clear DTCs and retest system operation. If no voltage is present, replace GEM. Clear DTCs and retest system operation.
- Check For Voltage To Driver Door Master Window/Door Lock Control Switch - Turn ignition off. Remove and disconnect driver door master window/door lock control switch connector C501. See «POWER WINDOW SWITCH»(ref-29364-S24037566752001010800000) under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION. Turn ignition switch to RUN position. Using NGS tester, access GEM active command mode ACCY RLY. Trigger ACCY RLY on. Using a voltmeter, check voltage between ground and driver door master window/door lock control switch connector C501 terminal No. 19 (Light Blue/Black wire). If voltage is 10 volts or less, go to next step. If voltage is more than 10 volts, go to step 14).
- Check Fuse - Turn ignition off. Remove maxi-fuse No. 4 (30-amp) from engine compartment power distribution box. If fuse is okay, go to next step. If fuse is blown, replace fuse and retest system operation. If fuse fails again, repair short to ground in Red/Light Blue wire. Clear DTCs and retest system operation.
- Check Voltage To Accessory Delay Relay Switch - Remove accessory delay relay (located in relay module, behind center of instrument panel). Using a voltmeter, check voltage between ground and accessory delay relay connector terminal No. 87 (Red/Light Blue wire). If voltage is more than 10 volts, go to next step. If voltage is 10 volts or less, repair Red/Light Blue wire. Clear DTCs and retest system operation.
- Check Accessory Delay Relay - Check accessory delay relay. See «ACCESSORY DELAY RELAY»(ref-29364-S40910916182001010800000) under COMPONENT TESTS. If accessory delay relay is okay, repair Light Blue/Black wire. Clear DTCs and retest system operation. If accessory delay relay does not test as specified, replace accessory delay relay. Clear DTCs and retest system operation.
- Check Driver Door Master Window/Door Lock Control Switch Ground Circuit - Turn ignition off. Using an ohmmeter, check resistance between ground and driver door master window/door lock control switch connector C501 terminal No. 13 (Black wire). If resistance is less than 5 ohms, replace driver door master window/door lock control switch. If resistance is 5 ohms or more, repair open in Black wire. Clear DTCs and retest system operation.

TEST B: DRIVER WINDOW DOES NOT OPERATE (ALL OTHER WINDOWS OPERATE)
Note. This test is associated with DTCs B1398, B1400, B1404, B1405, B1410 and B1342.
- Check Ignition States - Turn ignition off. Using NGS tester, access GEM PID IGN_GEM. Monitor GEM PID IGN_GEM while rotating ignition switch through START, RUN, OFF and ACC positions. If GEM PID IGN_GEM values agree with ignition switch positions, go to next step. If PID values do not agree with ignition switch positions, repair or replace ignition switch. See STEERING COLUMN SWITCHES article.
- Retrieve DTCs - Using NGS tester, retrieve and record continuous DTCs. Clear DTCs. Using NGS tester, perform GEM On-Demand Self-Test. If no DTCs are present, go to step 13). If DTCs B1398 and B1400 are retrieved, go to next step. If DTC B1404 or B1410 is retrieved, go to step 9). If DTC B1405 is retrieved, go to step 12). If DTC B1342 is retrieved, replace GEM. Clear DTCs and retest operation.
- Check One-Touch Down Relay Coil Circuit - Turn ignition switch to RUN position. Using NGS tester, access GEM active command ACCY RLY. Using NGS tester, trigger GEM active command ACCY RLY on. Monitor GEM PID D_PWRLY while triggering active command ONE TOUCH on and off. If GEM PID D_PWRLY value agrees with command mode, go to step 9). If NGS tester indicates OFFO-G, go to next step. If NGS tester indicates ON-B-, go to step 7).
- Check One-Touch Down Relay - Turn ignition off. Check one-touch down relay. See «BATTERY SAVER & ONE-TOUCH DOWN RELAY»(ref-29364-S18458259692001010800000) under COMPONENT TESTS. If one-touch down relay is okay, go to next step. If one-touch down relay does not test as specified, replace one-touch down relay. Clear DTCs and retest system operation.
- Check Light Blue/Black Wire For Open - Remove accessory delay relay (located in relay module, behind center of instrument panel). Using an ohmmeter, check resistance in Light Blue/Black wire between accessory delay relay connector terminal No. 30 and one-touch down relay connector terminal No. 2. (Scheme 1)and (Scheme 3). Check resistance in Light Blue/Black wire between accessory delay relay connector terminal No. 30 and one-touch down relay connector terminal No. 5. If resistances are less than 5 ohms, go to next step. If either resistance is 5 ohms or more, repair open in appropriate Light Blue/Black wire. Clear DTCs and retest system operation.
- Check Yellow/Red Wire For Open - Disconnect 18-pin GEM/CTM connector C283 (located behind center of instrument panel). Using an ohmmeter, check resistance in Yellow/Red wire between one-touch down relay connector terminal No. 1 and 18-pin GEM/CTM connector C283 terminal No. 7. (Scheme 2)and (Scheme 3). If resistance is less than 5 ohms, replace GEM. Clear DTCs and retest system operation. If resistance is 5 ohms or more, repair open in Yellow/Red wire. Clear DTCs and retest system operation.
- Check One-Touch Down Relay - Turn ignition off. Check one-touch down relay. See «BATTERY SAVER & ONE-TOUCH DOWN RELAY»(ref-29364-S18458259692001010800000) under COMPONENT TESTS. If one-touch down relay is okay, go to next step. If one-touch down relay does not test as specified, replace one-touch down relay. Clear DTCs and retest system operation.
- Check Yellow/Red Wire For Short To Power - Disconnect 18-pin GEM/CTM connector C283 (located behind center of instrument panel). Turn ignition switch to RUN position. Using a voltmeter, check voltage between ground and one-touch down relay connector terminal No. 1 (Yellow/Red wire). (Scheme 3) If any voltage is present, repair short to power in Yellow/Red wire. Clear DTCs and retest system operation. If voltage is not present, replace GEM. Clear DTCs and retest system operation.
- Check Driver Door Window Down Operation - Turn ignition off. Remove and disconnect driver door master window/door lock control switch connector. See «POWER WINDOW SWITCH»(ref-29364-S24037566752001010800000) under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION. Connect a jumper wire between ground and driver door master window/door lock control switch connector White/Black wire terminal. Connect another jumper wire between battery voltage and driver door master window/door lock control switch connector Tan/Light Blue wire terminal. Turn ignition switch to RUN position. If driver door window does not go down, remove jumper wires and go to next step. If driver door window goes down, replace driver door master window/door lock control switch. Clear DTCs and retest system operation.
- Check Tan/Light Blue Wire For Open - Disconnect 18-pin GEM/CTM connector C283 (located behind center of instrument panel). Using an ohmmeter, check resistance in Tan/Light Blue wire between 18-pin GEM/CTM connector C283 terminal No. 3 and driver door master window/door lock control switch connector. (Scheme 2) If resistance is less than 5 ohms, go to next step. If resistance is 5 ohms or more, repair open in Tan/Light Blue wire. Clear DTCs and retest system operation.
- Check Tan/Light Blue Wire For Short To Ground - Using an ohmmeter, check resistance between ground and 18-pin GEM/CTM connector C283 terminal No. 3 (Tan/Light Blue wire). If resistance is more than 10 k/ohms, replace GEM. Clear DTCs and retest system operation. If resistance is 10 k/ohms or less, repair short to ground in Tan/Light Blue wire. Clear DTCs and retest system operation.
- Check Tan/Light Blue Wire For Short To Power - Turn ignition off. Remove and disconnect driver door master window/door lock control switch connector. See «POWER WINDOW SWITCH»(ref-29364-S24037566752001010800000) under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION. Disconnect 18-pin GEM/CTM connector C283. Turn ignition switch to RUN position. Using a voltmeter, check voltage between ground and 18-pin GEM/CTM connector C283 terminal No. 3 (Tan/Light Blue wire). If any voltage is present, repair short to voltage in Tan/Light Blue wire. Clear DTCs and retest system operation. If voltage is not present, replace GEM. Clear DTCs and retest system operation.
- Check Red Wire For Voltage - Turn ignition off. Disconnect driver door window motor connector C504. See «POWER WINDOW MOTOR R & I»(ref-29364-S42269686902001010800000) under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION. Turn ignition switch to RUN position. Using a voltmeter, check voltage between ground and driver door window motor connector C504 Red wire terminal while holding master window switch driver door window in DOWN position. If voltage is more than 10 volts, go to step 16). If voltage is 10 volts or less, go to next step.
- Check Red Wire For Open - Turn ignition off. Remove one-touch down relay (located in relay module, behind center of instrument panel). Using an ohmmeter, check resistance in Red wire between one-touch down relay connector terminal No. 3 and driver door window motor connector. If resistance is less than 5 ohms, go to next step. If resistance is 5 ohms or more, repair open in Red wire. Clear DTCs and retest system operation.
- Check Tan/Light Blue Wire For Open - Remove and disconnect driver door master window/door lock control switch connector. See «POWER WINDOW SWITCH»(ref-29364-S24037566752001010800000) under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION. Using an ohmmeter, check resistance in Tan/Light Blue wire between driver door master window/door lock control switch connector terminal No. 3 and one-touch down relay connector terminal No. 4. If resistance is less than 5 ohms, replace one-touch down relay. Clear DTCs and retest system operation. If resistance is 5 ohms or more, repair open in Tan/Light Blue wire. Clear DTCs and retest system operation.
- Check White/Black Wire For Voltage - Using a voltmeter, check voltage between ground and driver door window motor connector C504 White/Black wire terminal while holding master window switch driver door window in UP position. If voltage is more than 10 volts, replace driver door window motor. Clear DTCs and retest system operation. If voltage is 10 volts or less, repair White/Black wire. Clear DTCs and retest system operation.

TEST C: RIGHT FRONT WINDOW DOES NOT OPERATE, 4-DOOR MODELS (ALL OTHER WINDOWS OPERATE)
- Check Red/Light Blue Wire For Voltage - Turn ignition off. Remove and disconnect right front power window switch. See «POWER WINDOW SWITCH»(ref-29364-S24037566752001010800000) under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION. Ensure window lock-out switch on driver door master window/door lock control switch is in OFF position. Turn ignition switch to RUN position. Using a voltmeter, check voltage between ground and right front window switch connector Red/Light Blue wire terminal. If voltage is more than 10 volts, go to next step. If voltage is 10 volts or less, go to step 3).
- Check White/Yellow & Tan/Light Blue Wires - Turn ignition off. Using an ohmmeter, check resistance between ground and right front window switch connector White/Yellow wire terminal. Check resistance between ground and right front window switch connector Tan/Light Blue wire terminal. If resistances are less than 14 ohms, go to step 5). If resistances are 14 ohms or more, go to step 4).
- Check Driver Door Master Window/Door Lock Control Switch - Turn ignition off. Remove and disconnect driver door master window/door lock control switch. See «POWER WINDOW SWITCH»(ref-29364-S24037566752001010800000) under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION. Ensure window lock-out switch on driver door master window/door lock control switch is in OFF position. Using an ohmmeter, check resistance between driver door master window/door lock control switch terminals No. 19 and 20. see scheme 1 If resistance is less than 5 ohms, repair Red/Light Blue wire. Clear DTCs and retest system operation. If resistance is 5 ohms or more, replace driver door master window/door lock control switch. Clear DTCs and retest operation.
- Check White/Yellow & Tan/Light Blue Wires For Open - Turn ignition off. Remove and disconnect driver door master window/door lock control switch. See «POWER WINDOW SWITCH»(ref-29364-S24037566752001010800000) under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION. Using an ohmmeter, check resistance in White/Yellow wire between driver door master window/door lock control switch connector and right front window switch connector. Check resistance in Tan/Light Blue wire between driver door master window/door lock control switch connector and right front window switch connector. If resistances are less than 5 ohms, replace driver door master window/door lock control switch. Clear DTCs and retest system operation. If resistances are 5 ohms or more, repair open in White/Yellow or Tan/Light Blue wire(s). Clear DTCs and retest system operation.
- Check Right Front Window Switch Down Operation - Connect jumper wire between right front window switch connector White/Yellow and Yellow/Red wire terminals. Connect another jumper wire between right front window switch connector Red/Light Blue and Red/Yellow wire terminals. Turn ignition switch to RUN position. If right front window operates in DOWN direction, replace inoperative window switch. Clear DTCs and retest system operation. If right front window does not operate in DOWN direction, remove jumper wires and go to next step.
- Check Right Front Window Switch Up Operation - Turn ignition off. Connect jumper wire between right front window switch connector Red/Yellow and Tan/Light Blue wire terminals. Connect another jumper wire between right front window switch connector Yellow/Red and Red/Light Blue wire terminals. Turn ignition switch to RUN position. If right front window operates in UP direction, replace inoperative window switch. Clear DTCs and retest system operation. If right front window does not operate in UP direction, remove jumper wires and go to next step.
- Check Yellow/Red Wire For Open - Turn ignition off. Disconnect right front power window motor connector. Using an ohmmeter, check resistance in Yellow/Red wire between right front window switch connector and right front power window motor connector. If resistance is less than 5 ohms, go to next step. If resistance is 5 ohms or more, repair open in Yellow/Red wire. Clear DTCs and retest system operation.
- Check Red/Yellow Wire For Open - Using an ohmmeter, check resistance in Red/Yellow wire between right front window switch connector and right front power window motor connector. If resistance is less than 5 ohms, replace right front power window motor. Clear DTCs and retest system operation. If resistance is 5 ohms or more, repair open in Red/Yellow wire. Clear DTCs and retest system operation.
TEST D: RIGHT FRONT WINDOW DOES NOT OPERATE, 2-DOOR MODELS (LEFT FRONT WINDOW OPERATES)
- Check For Voltage To Right Front Window Switch - Turn ignition off. Remove and disconnect right front window switch connector C615. Turn ignition switch to RUN position. Using a voltmeter, check voltage between ground and right front window switch connector C615 Light Blue/Black wire terminal. If voltage is more than 10 volts, go to next step. If voltage is 10 volts or less, repair open in Light Blue/Black wire. Clear DTCs and retest system operation.
- Check Right Front Window Switch Ground Circuits - Turn ignition off. Using an ohmmeter, check resistance between ground and right front window switch connector C615 White/Yellow wire terminal. Check resistance between ground and right front window switch connector C615 Tan/Light Blue wire terminal. If resistances are 14 ohms or more, go to next step. If resistances are less than 14 ohms, go to step 4).
- Check White/Yellow & Tan/Light Blue Wires For Open - Remove and disconnect driver door master window/door lock control switch connector C515. Using an ohmmeter, check resistance in White/Yellow wire between driver door master window/door lock control switch connector C515 and right front window switch connector C615. Check resistance in Tan/Light Blue wire between driver door master window/door lock control switch connector C515 and right front window switch connector C615. If resistances are less than 5 ohms, replace right front window switch. Clear DTCs and retest system operation. If resistances are 5 ohms or more, repair open in White/Yellow or Tan/Light Blue wire(s). Clear DTCs and retest system operation.
- Check Right Front Window Switch Down Operation - Connect jumper wire between right front window switch connector C615 White/Yellow and Yellow/Red wire terminals. Connect another jumper wire between right front window switch connector C615 Light Blue/Black and Red/Yellow wire terminals. Turn ignition switch to RUN position. If right front window operates in DOWN direction, replace inoperative window switch. Clear DTCs and retest system operation. If right front window does not operate in DOWN direction, remove jumper wires and go to next step.
- Check Right Front Window Switch Up Operation - Turn ignition off. Connect jumper wire between right front window switch connector C615 Red/Yellow and Tan/Light Blue wire terminals. Connect another jumper wire between right front window switch connector C615 Yellow/Red and Light Blue/Black wire terminals. Turn ignition switch to RUN position. If right front window operates in UP direction, replace inoperative window switch. Clear DTCs and retest system operation. If right front window does not operate in UP direction, remove jumper wires and go to next step.
- Check Yellow/Red Wire For Open - Turn ignition off. Disconnect right front power window motor connector C604. Using an ohmmeter, check resistance in Yellow/Red wire between right front window switch connector C615 and right front power window motor connector C604. If resistance is less than 5 ohms, go to next step. If resistance is 5 ohms or more, repair open in Yellow/Red wire. Clear DTCs and retest system operation.
- Check Red/Yellow Wire For Open - Using an ohmmeter, check resistance in Red/Yellow wire between right front window switch connector C615 and right front power window motor connector C604. If resistance is less than 5 ohms, replace right front power window motor. Clear DTCs and retest system operation. If resistance is 5 ohms or more, repair open in Red/Yellow wire. Clear DTCs and retest system operation.
TEST E: LEFT REAR WINDOW DOES NOT OPERATE, 4-DOOR MODELS (ALL OTHER WINDOWS OPERATE)
- Check For Voltage To Left Rear Window Switch - Turn ignition off. Remove and disconnect left rear window switch connector C702. See «POWER WINDOW SWITCH»(ref-29364-S24037566752001010800000) under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION. Ensure window lock-out switch on driver door master window/door lock control switch is in OFF position. Turn ignition switch to RUN position. Using a voltmeter, check voltage between ground and left rear window switch connector C702 Red/Light Blue wire terminal. If voltage is more than 10 volts, go to next step. If voltage is 10 volts or less, go to step 3).
- Check Left Rear Window Switch Ground Circuits - Turn ignition off. Using an ohmmeter, check resistance between ground and left rear window switch connector C702 Gray/Orange wire terminal. Check resistance between ground and left rear window switch connector C702 Yellow/Light Blue wire terminal. If resistances are less than 5 ohms, go to step 6). If resistances are 5 ohms or more, go to step 4).
- Check Driver Door Master Window/Door Lock Control Switch - Remove and disconnect driver door master window/door lock control switch connector C515. Using an ohmmeter, check resistance between driver door master window/door lock control switch terminals No. 19 and 20. see scheme 1 If resistance is less than 5 ohms, repair open in Red/Light Blue wire. Clear DTCs and retest system operation. If resistance is 5 ohms or more, replace driver door master window/door lock control switch. Clear DTCs and retest system operation.
- Check Yellow/Light Blue Wire For Open - Remove and disconnect driver door master window/door lock control switch connector C515. Using an ohmmeter, check resistance in Yellow/Light Blue wire between driver door master window/door lock control switch connector C515 and left rear window switch connector C702. If resistance is less than 5 ohms, go to next step. If resistance is 5 ohms or more, repair open in Yellow/Light Blue wire. Clear DTCs and retest system operation.
- Check Gray/Orange Wire For Open - Using an ohmmeter, check resistance in Gray/Orange wire between driver door master window/door lock control switch connector C515 and left rear window switch connector C702. If resistance is less than 5 ohms, replace driver door master window/door lock control switch. If resistance is 5 ohms or more, repair open in Gray/Orange wire. Clear DTCs and retest system operation.
- Check Left Rear Window Switch Down Operation - Connect jumper wire between left rear window switch connector C702 Gray/Orange and Yellow/Black wire terminals. Connect another jumper wire between left rear window switch connector C702 Yellow/Light Blue and Red/Light Blue wire terminals. Turn ignition switch to RUN position. If left rear window operates in DOWN direction, replace inoperative window switch. Clear DTCs and retest system operation. If left rear window does not operate in DOWN direction, remove jumper wires and go to next step.
- Check Left Rear Window Switch Up Operation - Turn ignition off. Connect jumper wire between left rear window switch connector C702 Yellow/Light Blue wire terminals. Connect another jumper wire between left rear window switch connector C702 Red/Light Blue and Yellow/Black wire terminals. Turn ignition switch to RUN position. If left rear window operates in UP direction, replace inoperative window switch. Clear DTCs and retest system operation. If left rear window does not operate in UP direction, remove jumper wires and go to next step.
- Check Yellow/Black Wire For Open - Turn ignition off. Disconnect left rear power window motor connector C701. See «POWER WINDOW MOTOR R & I»(ref-29364-S42269686902001010800000) under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION. Using an ohmmeter, check resistance in Yellow/Black wire between left rear window switch connector C702 and left rear power window motor connector C701. If resistance is less than 5 ohms, go to next step. If resistance is 5 ohms or more, repair open in Yellow/Black wire. Clear DTCs and retest system operation.
- Check Yellow/Light Blue Wire For Open - Using an ohmmeter, check resistance in Yellow/Light Blue wire between left rear window switch connector C702 and left rear power window motor connector C701. If resistance is less than 5 ohms, replace left rear power window motor. Clear DTCs and retest system operation. If resistance is 5 ohms or more, repair open in Yellow/Light Blue wire. Clear DTCs and retest system operation.
TEST F: RIGHT REAR WINDOW DOES NOT OPERATE, 4-DOOR MODELS (ALL OTHER WINDOWS OPERATE)
- Check For Voltage To Right Rear Window Switch - Turn ignition off. Remove and disconnect right rear window switch connector C802. See «POWER WINDOW SWITCH»(ref-29364-S24037566752001010800000) under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION. Ensure window lock-out switch on driver door master window/door lock control switch is in OFF position. Turn ignition switch to RUN position. Using a voltmeter, check voltage between ground and right rear window switch connector C802 Red/Light Blue wire terminal. If voltage is more than 10 volts, go to next step. If voltage is 10 volts or less, go to step 3).
- Check Right Rear Window Switch Ground Circuits - Turn ignition off. Using an ohmmeter, check resistance between ground and right rear window switch connector C802 Red/Black wire terminal. Check resistance between ground and right rear window switch connector C802 Yellow/Black wire terminal. If resistances are less than 5 ohms, go to step 6). If either resistance is 5 ohms or more, go to step 4).
- Check Driver Door Master Window/Door Lock Control Switch - Remove and disconnect driver door master window/door lock control switch connector C515. Using an ohmmeter, check resistance between driver door master window/door lock control switch terminals No. 19 and 20. see scheme 1 If resistance is less than 5 ohms, repair open in Red/Light Blue wire. Clear DTCs and retest system operation. If resistance is 5 ohms or more, replace driver door master window/door lock control switch. Clear DTCs and retest system operation.
- Check Yellow/Black Wire For Open - Remove and disconnect driver door master window/door lock control switch connector C515. Using an ohmmeter, check resistance in Yellow/Black wire between driver door master window/door lock control switch connector C515 and right rear window switch connector C802. If resistance is less than 5 ohms, go to next step. If resistance is 5 ohms or more, repair open in Yellow/Black wire. Clear DTCs and retest system operation.
- Check Red/Black Wire For Open - Using an ohmmeter, check resistance in Red/Black wire between driver door master window/door lock control switch connector C515 and right rear window switch connector C802. If resistance is less than 5 ohms, replace driver door master window/door lock control switch. If resistance is 5 ohms or more, repair open in Red/Black wire. Clear DTCs and retest system operation.
- Check Right Rear Window Switch Down Operation - Connect jumper wire between right rear window switch connector C802 Yellow/Black and Brown wire terminals. Connect another jumper wire between right rear window switch connector C802 Red/Light Blue and Brown/Yellow wire terminals. Turn ignition switch to RUN position. If right rear window operates in DOWN direction, replace inoperative window switch. Clear DTCs and retest system operation. If right rear window does not operate in DOWN direction, remove jumper wires and go to next step.
- Check Right Rear Window Switch Up Operation - Turn ignition off. Connect jumper wire between right rear window switch connector C802 Brown/Yellow and Red/Black wire terminals. Connect another jumper wire between right rear window switch connector C802 Brown and Red/Light Blue wire terminals. Turn ignition switch to RUN position. If left rear window operates in UP direction, replace inoperative window switch. Clear DTCs and retest system operation. If left rear window does not operate in UP direction, remove jumper wires and go to next step.
- Check Brown Wire For Open - Turn ignition off. Disconnect right rear power window motor connector C801. See «POWER WINDOW MOTOR R & I»(ref-29364-S42269686902001010800000) under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION. Using an ohmmeter, check resistance in Brown wire between right rear window switch connector C802 and right rear power window motor connector C801. If resistance is less than 5 ohms, go to next step. If resistance is 5 ohms or more, repair open in Brown wire. Clear DTCs and retest system operation.
- Check Brown/Yellow Wire For Open - Using an ohmmeter, check resistance in Brown/Yellow wire between right rear window switch connector C802 and right rear power window motor connector C801. If resistance is less than 5 ohms, replace right rear power window motor. Clear DTCs and retest system operation. If resistance is 5 ohms or more, repair open in Brown/Yellow wire. Clear DTCs and retest system operation.
TEST G: ONE-TOUCH DOWN FEATURE DOES NOT OPERATE
Note. This test is associated with DTCs B1398, B1400 and B1342.
- Check Ignition States - Turn ignition off. Using NGS tester, access GEM PID IGN_GEM. Monitor GEM PID IGN_GEM PID while rotating ignition switch through START, RUN, OFF and ACC positions. If GEM PID IGN_GEM values agree with ignition switch positions, go to next step. If GEM PID IGN_GEM values do not agree with ignition switch positions, repair or replace ignition switch and retest system operation.
- Retrieve DTCs - Using NGS tester, retrieve and record continuous DTCs. Clear continuous DTCs and perform GEM On-Demand Self-Test. If no DTCs are retrieved, go to next step. If DTCs B1398 and/or B1400 are retrieved, go to next step. If DTC B1342 is present, replace GEM. Clear DTCs and retest system operation.
- Check One-Touch Down Relay Coil Circuit - Turn ignition switch to RUN position. Using NGS tester, access GEM active command ACCY RLY. Trigger GEM active command mode ACCY RLY on. Monitor GEM PID D_PWRLY while triggering active command ONE TOUCH on and off. If GEM PID D_PWRLY value agrees with command mode, go to step 9). If NGS tester indicates OFFO-G, go to next step. If NGS tester indicates ON-B-, go to step 7).
- Check One-Touch Down Relay - Turn ignition off. Check one-touch down relay. See «BATTERY SAVER & ONE-TOUCH DOWN RELAY»(ref-29364-S18458259692001010800000) under COMPONENT TESTS. If one-touch down relay is okay, go to next step. If one-touch down relay does not test as specified, replace one-touch down relay. Clear DTCs and retest system operation.
- Check Light Blue/Black Wire For Open - Turn ignition off. Remove accessory delay relay and one-touch down relay from relay module located behind center of instrument panel. Using an ohmmeter, check resistance in Light Blue/Black wire between accessory delay relay connector terminal No. 30 and one-touch down relay connector terminal No. 2. (Scheme 1)and (Scheme 3). If resistance is less than 5 ohms, go to next step. If resistance is 5 ohms or more, repair open in Light Blue/Black wire. Clear DTCs and retest system operation.
- Check Yellow/Red Wire For Open - Disconnect 18-pin GEM connector C283 (located behind center of instrument panel). Using an ohmmeter, check resistance in Yellow/Red wire between one-touch down relay connector terminal No. 1 and 18-pin GEM connector C283 terminal No. 7. (Scheme 2)and (Scheme 3). If resistance is less than 5 ohms, replace GEM. Clear DTCs and retest system operation. If resistance is 5 ohms or more, repair open in Yellow/Red wire. Clear DTCs and retest system operation.
- Check One-Touch Down Relay - Turn ignition off. Check one-touch down relay. See «BATTERY SAVER & ONE-TOUCH DOWN RELAY»(ref-29364-S18458259692001010800000) under COMPONENT TESTS. If one-touch down relay is okay, go to next step. If one-touch down relay does not test as specified, replace one-touch down relay. Clear DTCs and retest system operation.
- Check Yellow/Red Wire For Short To Power - Turn ignition off. Disconnect 18-pin GEM connector C283 (located behind center of instrument panel). Turn ignition switch to RUN position. Using a voltmeter, check voltage between ground and one-touch down relay connector terminal No. 1 (Yellow/Red wire). If any voltage is present, repair short to power in Yellow/Red wire. Clear DTCs and retest system operation. If no voltage is present, replace GEM. Clear DTCs and retest system operation.
- Check One-Touch Down Relay - Turn ignition off. Check one-touch down relay. See «BATTERY SAVER & ONE-TOUCH DOWN RELAY»(ref-29364-S18458259692001010800000) under COMPONENT TESTS. If one-touch down relay is okay, go to next step. If one-touch down relay does not test as specified, replace one-touch down relay. Clear DTCs and retest system operation.
- Check Voltage To Switch Side Of One-Touch Down Relay - Turn ignition off. Remove one-touch down relay (located in relay module, behind center of instrument panel). Turn ignition switch to RUN position. Using a voltmeter, check voltage between ground and one-touch down relay connector terminal No. 2 (Light Blue/Black wire). Check voltage between ground and one-touch down relay connector terminal No. 5 (Light Blue/Black wire). If both voltage readings are more than 10 volts, go to next step. If either voltage reading is 10 volts or less, repair appropriate Light Blue/Black wire. Clear DTCs and retest system operation.
- Check Gray Wire For Open - Disconnect 18-pin GEM connector C283 (located behind center of instrument panel). Disconnect driver door power window motor connector C504. See «POWER WINDOW MOTOR R & I»(ref-29364-S42269686902001010800000) under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION. Using an ohmmeter, check resistance between 18-pin GEM/CTM connector C283 terminal No. 10 (Gray wire) and driver door power window motor connector C504 Red wire terminal. If resistance is less than 5 ohms, go to next step. If resistance is 5 ohms or more, repair open in Gray wire. Clear DTCs and retest system operation.
- Check Orange/White Wire For Open - Using an ohmmeter, check resistance between 18-pin GEM connector C283 terminal No. 2 (Orange/White wire) and driver door power window motor connector C504 Red wire terminal. If resistance is less than 5 ohms, replace GEM. Clear DTCs and retest system operation. If resistance is 5 ohms or more, repair open in Orange/White wire. Clear DTCs and retest system operation.
TEST J: NO COMMUNICATION WITH GEM
- Check Maxi-Fuse - Using an ohmmeter, check condition of maxi-fuse No. 1 (50-amp) in engine compartment power distribution box. If fuse is okay, go to next step. If fuse is not okay, replace fuse. Clear DTCs and retest system operation. If fuse fails again, check Tan/Black wire between engine compartment power distribution box and instrument panel fuse block for short to ground. Repair circuit as necessary.
- Check Fuse - Using an ohmmeter, check condition of instrument panel fuse block fuse No. 25 (7.5-amp). If fuse is okay, go to next step. If fuse is not okay, replace fuse. Clear DTCs and retest system operation. If fuse fails again, check White/Yellow wire between instrument panel fuse block and GEM/CTM for short to ground. Repair circuit as necessary.
- Check Tan/Black Wire For Voltage - Using a voltmeter, check voltage between ground and instrument panel fuse block fuse No. 25 (7.5-amp) terminal No. 2. (Scheme 4) If voltage is more than 10 volts, go to next step. If voltage is 10 volts or less, repair Tan/Black wire between engine compartment power distribution box and instrument panel fuse block. Clear DTCs and retest system operation.
- Check White/Yellow Wire For Voltage - Turn ignition off. Disconnect GEM/CTM 18-pin connector C224 (located behind center of instrument panel). Using a voltmeter, check voltage between ground and GEM/CTM 18-pin connector C283 terminal No. 11 (White/Yellow wire). (Scheme 2) If voltage is more than 10 volts, go to next step. If voltage is 10 volts or less, repair White/Yellow wire between instrument panel fuse block and GEM/CTM. Clear DTCs and retest system operation.
- Check Black/White Wire For Open - Disconnect GEM/CTM 26-pin connector C280. Using an ohmmeter, check resistance between ground and GEM/CTM 26-pin connector C280 terminal No. 14 (Black/White wire). (Scheme 5) Check resistance between ground and GEM/CTM 26-pin connector C280 terminal No. 26 (Black/White wire). If both resistance readings are less than 5 ohms, see MODULE COMMUNICATIONS NETWORK article to continue diagnosis. If either resistance reading is 5 ohms or more, repair open in appropriate Black/White wire. Clear DTCs and retest system operation.
