Fuel Charging and Controls
The fuel charging and control system consists of the
- Electronic throttle body (TB)
- Fuel supply tube
- Fuel rails
- Fuel injectors
- Fuel pressure and temperature sensor
The fuel charging and controls system is
- a sequential, multi-port fuel injection (SFI) system.
- pulse-width modulated (PWM).
- mass air flow (MAF) controlled.
Throttle Body
| CAUTION | Do not hold the throttle plate open with any object that could scratch the bore or plate while servicing or cleaning the throttle body (TB), or the TB may be damaged. For additional information, refer to Throttle Body . |
- controls air supply to the intake manifold by electronically positioning the throttle plate.
- is not adjustable.
- must be removed from the vehicle to be cleaned. Refer to «Throttle Body»(/ford/explorer-sport-trac/ii-2006-2010/remont/fuel-system/#fuel-system-and-engine-controls-40l-sohc) .
Fuel Supply Tube
- supplies fuel to the 2 fuel rails.
Fuel Rails
- deliver fuel to the individual fuel injectors.
Fuel Injectors
- are electrically operated by the PCM.
- atomize the fuel as the fuel is delivered.
- are deposit-resistant and self-cleaning.
- each have an internal solenoid which opens a needle valve to inject fuel into the cylinder heads.
Fuel Pressure and Temperature Sensor
The fuel pressure and temperature sensor
- supplies the PCM with signals indicating fuel pressure and fuel temperature.
