TORQUE SPECIFICATIONS

Pickup Bed

The pickup bed consists of the following components

1. Bed extender (optional)
2. Box inner panel
3. Body side outer molding
4. Body side outer panels
5. Cargo divider (optional)
6. Front/side storage compartments
7. Fuel filler door
8. Fuel filler housing
9. Pickup bed inner tie-downs
10. Pickup bed exterior tie-downs
11. Pickup bed reinforcement assembly
12. Power point receptacle
13. Rear wheel house panels
14. Tonneau cover (optional)
15. Tailgate assembly
16. Wiring harnesses

Pickup Bed Alignment

1. Remove the 6 bumper cover screws (3 each side).
2. Loosen the pickup bed rear bolts.
3. Loosen the front pickup bed bolts.
4. Center the pickup bed to the rear of the cab.
5. Align the leading edge of the pickup bed and the rear of the cab to specifications.
6. Tighten the pickup bed bolts and nuts. To install, tighten to 62 N.m (46 lb-ft).
7. Install the 6 bumper cover screws (3 each side).

Pickup Bed Body Side

Note. RH shown, LH similar.

Scheme 1

1. Remove the 3 exterior pickup bed tie-downs. Remove the 6 bolts. To install, tighten to 5 N.m (44 lb-in). Remove the 3 tie-downs.
2. Remove the body side outer molding. To release the molding, start at the inside and roll the molding to the outside.
3. Remove the pickup bed. For additional information, refer to «Pickup Bed»(/ford/explorer-sport-trac/ii-2006-2010/remont/frames-subframes-crossmembers/#body-panel-system) .
4. Remove the rear lamp assembly. Remove the bolts. Remove the rear lamp. Disconnect the electrical connectors.
5. Remove the 2 rear body side outer bolts. To install, tighten to 12 N.m (9 lb-ft).
6. Remove the 4 pickup bed wheel house screws.
7. Remove the 4 front body side outer bolts. To install, tighten to 12 N.m (9 lb-ft).
8. Remove the lower rear body side outer bolt and disconnect the wiring harness from the body side outer panel. To install, tighten to 12 N.m (9 lb-ft).
9. Remove the 3 upper body side outer mounting bolts and remove the body side outer panel. To install, tighten to 12 N.m (9 lb-ft).
10. To install, reverse the removal procedure.

Pickup Bed Wheel House

Note. RH shown, LH similar.

Scheme 2

RH and LH

1. Remove the rear fender molding. For additional information, refer to «EXTERIOR TRIM AND ORNAMENTATION»(/ford/explorer-sport-trac/ii-2006-2010/remont/exteriorinterior-trim/#exterior-trim-and-ornamentation) article.
2. Remove the 3 bumper cover screws.
3. Remove the 4 rear wheel house-to-wheel house opening screws.
4. Remove the pin-type retainer.
5. Remove the rear wheel house. Remove the screws. Remove the rear wheel house.
6. To install, reverse the removal procedure.

Scheme 3

1. Remove the 4 screws and the power point receptacle from the pickup bed side.
2. Disconnect the power point receptacle electrical connector and remove the power point receptacle.
3. To install, reverse the removal procedure.

Scheme 4

1. With the vehicle in NEUTRAL, position it on a hoist. For additional information, refer to «JACKING AND LIFTING»(/ford/explorer-sport-trac/ii-2006-2010/remont/hoistjack/#jacking-and-lifting) article.
2. If equipped, remove the Tonneau cover.
3. If equipped, remove the cargo divider.
4. Remove the tailgate assembly.
5. Remove the fuel filler cap.
6. Remove the fuel filler pipe screws and position the filler pipe aside. To install, tighten to 3 Nm (27 lb-in).
7. Remove the rear fender moldings. For additional information, refer to «EXTERIOR TRIM AND ORNAMENTATION»(/ford/explorer-sport-trac/ii-2006-2010/remont/exteriorinterior-trim/#exterior-trim-and-ornamentation) article.
8. Raise the vehicle.
9. Disconnect the electrical connector.
10. Disconnect the license plate lamp electrical connectors.
11. Remove the 2 pickup bed front nuts from under the vehicle (1 each side). To install, tighten to 62 N.m (46 lb-ft).
12. Remove the 6 rear bumper cover screws (3 each side).
13. Remove the 6 rear bumper cover screws and the bumper cover.
14. Lower the vehicle.
15. Remove the 2 pickup bed rear bolts (1 each side). To install, tighten to 62 N.m (46 lb-ft).
16. With the help of an assistant, remove the pickup bed and place it on a suitable support.
17. To install, reverse the removal procedure.

Scheme 5

1. Remove the LH and RH body side outer panels. For additional information, refer to «Pickup Bed Body Side»(/ford/explorer-sport-trac/ii-2006-2010/remont/frames-subframes-crossmembers/#body-panel-system__pickup-bed-body-side) .
2. Remove the 2 tailgate hinges (1 each side).
3. Remove the 2 tailgate cable anchors (1 each side).
4. Remove the 2 tailgate strikers (1 each side).
5. Remove the 4 reinforcement mounting bolts from the pickup bed (2 each side). To install, tighten to 25 N.m (18 lb-ft).
6. Turn the pickup bed upside down on a suitable support.
7. Remove the 2 outer pickup bed reinforcement bolts and remove the reinforcement. To install, tighten to 25 N.m (18 lb-ft).
8. Disconnect the wiring harness from the pickup bed reinforcement.
9. To install, reverse the removal procedure.

Pickup Bed Storage Compartment Hinge - Side Compartment

1. Remove the side compartment lid. For additional information, refer to «Pickup Bed Storage Compartment Lid - Side Compartment»(/ford/explorer-sport-trac/ii-2006-2010/remont/frames-subframes-crossmembers/#body-panel-system__pickup-bed-storage-compartment-lid) .
2. Remove the storage compartment hinge. Remove the storage compartment seal. Remove the storage compartment hinge. Clean the lid surface of any residual seal material. Scuff the seal surface area. Apply adhesive promoter. Apply pressure to the hinge surface with a roller and allow seal to cure before installation for one hour.
3. To install, reverse the removal procedure.

Pickup Bed Storage Compartment Hinge - Front Compartment

1. Remove the front compartment lid. For additional information, refer to «Pickup Bed Storage Compartment Lid - Front Compartment»(/ford/explorer-sport-trac/ii-2006-2010/remont/frames-subframes-crossmembers/#body-panel-system__pickup-bed-storage-compartment-lid) .
2. Remove the pickup bed. For additional information, refer to «Pickup Bed»(/ford/explorer-sport-trac/ii-2006-2010/remont/frames-subframes-crossmembers/#body-panel-system) .
3. Remove the front compartment lid hinge nuts from the front of the pickup bed. To install, tighten to 12 Nm (9 lb-ft).
4. Remove the front compartment lid hinge from the pickup box.
5. To install, reverse the removal procedure.

Pickup Bed Storage Compartment Lid - Front Compartment

1. Open the storage compartment lid and disconnect the compartment lid struts from the door.
2. Remove the 6 storage compartment lid nuts. To install, tighten to 12 Nm (9 lb-ft).
3. Remove the storage compartment lid.
4. To install, reverse the removal procedure.

Pickup Bed Storage Compartment Lid - Side Compartment

1. Open the compartment lid and remove the pickup bed seal.
2. Remove the storage compartment door.
3. To install, reverse the removal procedure.

Pickup Bed Storage Compartment Seal - Side Compartment

1. Remove the side compartment lid. For additional information, refer to «Pickup Bed Storage Compartment Lid - Side Compartment»(/ford/explorer-sport-trac/ii-2006-2010/remont/frames-subframes-crossmembers/#body-panel-system__pickup-bed-storage-compartment-lid) .
2. Remove the storage compartment seal from the storage compartment. Remove any adhesive or residual seal material. Clean the lid surface with a 50/50 solution of alcohol and water. Apply adhesive promotor. Apply seal. Apply pressure to the seal with a roller and allow seal to cure before installation for one hour.
3. To install, reverse the removal procedure.

Pickup Bed Storage Compartment Seal - Front Compartment

1. Remove the front compartment lid. For additional information, refer to «Pickup Bed Storage Compartment Lid - Front Compartment»(/ford/explorer-sport-trac/ii-2006-2010/remont/frames-subframes-crossmembers/#body-panel-system__pickup-bed-storage-compartment-lid) .
2. Remove the storage compartment seal from the storage compartment. Remove any adhesive or residual seal material. Clean the lid surface with a 50/50 solution of alcohol and water. Apply adhesive promotor. Apply seal. Apply pressure to the seal with a roller and allow seal to cure before installation for one hour.
3. To install, reverse the removal procedure.
