Torque Specifications
The horn system consists of the following components
- Steering Wheel Horn Switches
- Horn Relay - Located In The Battery Junction Box (BJB)
- Horns - Located In The Left Front Corner Above The Fender Apron
- Clockspring
- Central Security Module
The horn switches are underneath the driver side air bag module in the steering wheel. The switches are powered through the clockspring and are grounded through the steering column.

- Verify the customer concern by operating the horn.
- Visually inspect for obvious signs of mechanical and electrical damage. (Scheme 2)
- If the fault is not visually evident, determine the symptom and proceed to «SYMPTOM CHART»(/ford/explorer-sport-trac/i-2000-2005/remont/horns/#horn).

- Remove the battery.
- Remove the horn bracket nut.
- Remove the inner fender apron bolts.
- Position the inner fender apron aside.
- Remove the horn. Disconnect the electrical connector. Remove the horn.
- To install, reverse the removal procedure.

- Remove the driver side air bag. For additional information, refer to «DRIVER-SIDE AIR BAG MODULE»(/ford/explorer-sport-trac/i-2000-2005/remont/airbag/#air-bag-restraint-systems) in AIR BAG RESTRAINT SYSTEMS article.
- Remove the switch. Disconnect the horn wire (BK) from the switches. Remove the screws and the switch.
- To install, reverse the removal procedure. Prove out the air bag system; refer to «DISABLING & ACTIVATING AIR BAG SYSTEM»(/ford/explorer-sport-trac/i-2000-2005/remont/airbag/#air-bag-restraint-systems__disabling-activating-air-bag-system) in AIR BAG RESTRAINT SYSTEMS article.
