Engine Cooling System - (Except Hybrid): Removal & Installation Ford Escape II

Removal and Installation

  1. Drain the cooling system. For additional information, refer to «COOLING SYSTEM DRAINING, FILLING AND BLEEDING»(ref-344113-S11679489632009101600000) .
  2. Disconnect the block heater electrical connector.
  3. Remove the block heater. To install, tighten to 40 Nm (30 lb-ft) (2.5L). To install, tighten to 25 Nm (18 lb-ft) (3.0L).
  4. To install, reverse the removal procedure.
  5. Fill and bleed the cooling system. For additional information, refer to «COOLING SYSTEM DRAINING, FILLING AND BLEEDING»(ref-344113-S11679489632009101600000) .

  2. Disconnect the heater hose from the thermostat housing.
  3. Disconnect the lower radiator hose from the thermostat housing.
  4. Remove the 3 bolts and thermostat housing. Remove and discard the gasket. To install, tighten the bolts to 10 Nm (89 lb-in).
  5. To install, reverse the removal procedure. Install a new gasket.
  6. Fill and bleed the cooling system. For additional information, refer to «COOLING SYSTEM DRAINING, FILLING AND BLEEDING»(ref-344113-S11679489632009101600000) .

  2. Disconnect the lower radiator hose from the thermostat housing.
  3. Remove the 2 bolts, thermostat housing cover, O-ring seal and thermostat. To install, tighten to 10 Nm (89 lb-in).
  4. To install, reverse the removal procedure. Clean and inspect the O-ring seal. Install a new seal if necessary.
  5. Fill and bleed the cooling system. For additional information, refer to «COOLING SYSTEM DRAINING, FILLING AND BLEEDING»(ref-344113-S11679489632009101600000) .

ITEM DESCRIPTION

  1. Drain the cooling system. For additional information, refer to «COOLING SYSTEM DRAINING, FILLING AND BLEEDING»(ref-344113-S11679489632009101600000) .
  2. Remove the intake manifold. For additional information, refer to «ENGINE - 2.5L»(ref-344116) .
  3. Disconnect and remove the coolant bypass tube.
  4. To install, reverse the removal procedure.
  5. Fill and bleed the cooling system. For additional information, refer to «COOLING SYSTEM DRAINING, FILLING AND BLEEDING»(ref-344113-S11679489632009101600000) .
  1. Drain the cooling system. For additional information, refer to «COOLING SYSTEM DRAINING, FILLING AND BLEEDING»(ref-344113-S11679489632009101600000) .
  2. Loosen the 3 coolant pump bolts. To install, tighten to 20 Nm (177 lb-in).
  3. Remove the accessory drive belt. For additional information, refer to «ACCESSORY DRIVE - 2.5L»(ref-344110) .
  4. Remove the 3 bolts and the coolant pump pulley.
  5. Remove the 3 bolts and the coolant pump. Remove and discard the O-ring seal. To install, tighten to 10 Nm (89 lb-in).
  6. To install, reverse the removal procedure. Lubricate the new O-ring seal with clean engine coolant.
  7. Fill and bleed the cooling system. For additional information, refer to «COOLING SYSTEM DRAINING, FILLING AND BLEEDING»(ref-344113-S11679489632009101600000) .

  2. Remove the Throttle Body (TB). For additional information, refer to «FUEL CHARGING & CONTROLS - 3.0L (4V)»(ref-344123) .
  3. Remove the coolant pump belt. For additional information, refer to «ACCESSORY DRIVE - 3.0L (4V)»(ref-344111) .
  4. Disconnect the upper radiator hose from the coolant pump housing.
  5. Disconnect the lower radiator hose from the thermostat housing.
  6. Remove the 2 coolant inlet pipe bolts. To install, tighten to 10 Nm (89 lb-in).
  7. Disconnect both heater hoses from the coolant pump housing.
  8. Remove the 3 bolts, 2 nuts and the coolant pump housing. Remove and discard the O-ring seals and gasket. To install, tighten to 10 Nm (89 lb-in).
  9. To install, reverse the removal procedure. Install new O-ring seals and gasket.
  10. Fill and bleed the cooling system. For additional information, refer to «COOLING SYSTEM DRAINING, FILLING AND BLEEDING»(ref-344113-S11679489632009101600000) .

ITEM DESCRIPTION

Removal

  1. Drain the cooling system. For additional information, refer to «COOLING SYSTEM DRAINING, FILLING AND BLEEDING»(ref-344113-S11679489632009101600000) .
  2. Remove the Air Cleaner (ACL) outlet pipe. For additional information, refer to «INTAKE AIR DISTRIBUTION & FILTERING - 3.0L (4V)»(ref-344099) .
  3. Disconnect the lower radiator hose from the thermostat housing.
  4. Remove the coolant pump belt. For additional information, refer to «ACCESSORY DRIVE - 3.0L (4V)»(ref-344111) .
  5. Remove the 3 bolts and the coolant pump. Remove and discard the gasket.

Installation

  1. Using a new gasket, install the coolant pump and the 3 bolts. Tighten to 10 Nm (89 lb-in).
  2. Install the coolant pump belt. For additional information, refer to «ACCESSORY DRIVE - 3.0L (4V)»(ref-344111) .
  3. Connect the lower radiator hose to the thermostat housing.
  4. Install the ACL outlet pipe. For additional information, refer to «INTAKE AIR DISTRIBUTION & FILTERING - 3.0L (4V)»(ref-344099) .
  5. Fill and bleed the cooling system. For additional information, refer to «COOLING SYSTEM DRAINING, FILLING AND BLEEDING»(ref-344113-S11679489632009101600000) .
  1. Drain the cooling system. For additional information, refer to «COOLING SYSTEM DRAINING, FILLING AND BLEEDING»(ref-344113-S11679489632009101600000) .
  2. Remove the Throttle Body (TB). For additional information, refer to «FUEL CHARGING & CONTROLS - 3.0L (4V)»(ref-344123) .
  3. Remove the 2 coolant inlet pipe housing bolts. To install, tighten to 10 Nm (89 lb-in).
  4. Loosen the clamp and disconnect the coolant inlet pipe from the coolant inlet pipe hose. Tighten to 5 Nm (44 lb-in).
  5. Remove and inspect the O-ring seal, install a new seal if necessary.
  6. To install, reverse the removal procedure. Lubricate the O-ring seal with clean engine coolant.
  7. Fill and bleed the cooling system. For additional information, refer to «COOLING SYSTEM DRAINING, FILLING AND BLEEDING»(ref-344113-S11679489632009101600000) .

ITEM DESCRIPTION

  1. With vehicle in NEUTRAL, position it on a hoist. For additional information, refer to «JACKING & LIFTING»(ref-344051) .
  2. Remove the cooling fan motor and shroud. For additional information, refer to «COOLING FAN MOTOR AND SHROUD»(ref-344113-S21359226902009101600000) .
  3. Disconnect the upper radiator hose from the radiator.
  4. Disconnect the lower degas bottle-to-radiator hose from the radiator.
  5. Disconnect the lower radiator hose from the radiator.
  6. Remove the 2 A/C condenser-to-radiator bolts and position aside the A/C condenser. To install, tighten to 8 Nm (71 lb-in).
  7. Remove the radiator.
  8. To install, reverse the removal procedure.

  2. Remove the cooling fan motor and shroud. For additional information, refer to «COOLING FAN MOTOR AND SHROUD»(ref-344113-S21359226902009101600000) .
  3. Disconnect the radiator-to-degas bottle hose and upper radiator hose from the radiator.
  4. Disconnect the degas bottle-to-radiator hose from the radiator.
  5. Disconnect the lower radiator hose from the radiator.
  6. Remove the 2 A/C condenser-to-radiator bolts and position aside the A/C condenser from the radiator. To install, tighten to 8 Nm (71 lb-in).
  7. Remove the radiator.
  8. To install, reverse the removal procedure.
  9. Fill and bleed the cooling system. For additional information, refer to «COOLING SYSTEM DRAINING, FILLING AND BLEEDING»(ref-344113-S11679489632009101600000) .

ITEM DESCRIPTION

  1. Release the pressure in the cooling system by slowly turning the pressure relief cap one-half turn counterclockwise. When the pressure is released, remove the pressure relief cap.
  2. Using hose clamp pliers, clamp the degas bottle-to-radiator hose.
  3. Using a suitable suction device, siphon the coolant from the degas bottle.
  4. Disconnect the radiator-to-degas bottle hose from the degas bottle.
  5. Remove the 2 degas bottle nuts. To install, tighten to 6 Nm (53 lb-in).
  6. Lift the degas bottle up and disconnect the degas bottle-to-radiator hose. Remove the degas bottle.
  7. To install, reverse the removal procedure.
  8. Fill the degas bottle. Refer to «COOLING SYSTEM DRAINING, FILLING AND BLEEDING»(ref-344113-S11679489632009101600000) for the recommended coolant mixture and fill level.
