Transaxle Description

This automatic transaxle is a 4-speed, front wheel drive automatic transaxle with electronic controls for

  1. electronic pressure control (EPC) solenoid for shift quality.
  2. shift scheduling.
  3. 3-2 shift timing.
  4. coast braking.
  5. torque converter clutch control.

The transaxle features a 4 element torque converter with a torque clutch and a geartrain that includes

  1. compound planetary gearset.
  2. chain drive.
  3. planetary gearset final drive.
  4. pinion and side gear differential.

The hydraulic control system of the transaxle has 5 solenoids that control

  1. shift feel, through line pressure control.
  2. shift scheduling, through shift valve positioning control.
  3. modulated application of the torque converter clutch.
  4. timing of 3-2 shifts.
  5. engine braking during coast operation.
