Normal Operation
The exterior mirror control switch receives power through circuit 956 (OG/LG) and ground through circuit 57 (BK). The exterior mirror control switch uses circuit 542 (YE) as the common circuit for both exterior mirror up/down and right/left movement.
The exterior mirror control switch uses circuit 542 (YE) as the common circuit for both of the exterior mirrors up/down and right/left movement. For the LH exterior mirror, the exterior mirror control switch either directs voltage or provides ground on circuits 540 (RD) and 541 (DB), depending on the direction of movement. For the RH exterior mirror, the exterior mirror control switch either directs voltage or provides ground on circuits 543 (DG) and 544 (VT) also depending on the direction of movement.
The exterior mirror control switch uses circuits 540 (RD), 541 (DB), 542 (YE), 543 (DG) and 544 (VT) to control the exterior mirror movement.
- When power is directed through circuit 540 (RD)/543 (DG) and ground through circuit 542 (YE), the LH/RH exterior mirror operates left.
- When ground is directed through circuit 540 (RD)/543 (DG) and power through circuit 542 (YE), the LH/RH exterior mirror operates right.
- When power is directed through circuit 541 (DB)/544 (VT) and ground through circuit 542 (YE), the LH/RH exterior mirror operates down.
- When ground is directed through circuit 541 (DB)/544 (VT) and power through circuit 542 (YE), the LH/RH exterior mirror operates up.
The auto-dimming rear view mirror receives power from circuit 1002 (BK/PK) and ground from circuit 57 (BK). If the vehicle is placed in REVERSE, voltage is sent to circuit 140 (BK/PK) and the auto-dimming rear view mirror turns the dimming feature off. There are 2 photoelectric sensors: one in the front of the mirror and one mounted on the glass side of the mirror. If the sensors are blocked, the auto-dimming feature may not work correctly. Always verify both sensors are not physically blocked before attempting to diagnose auto-dimming rear view mirror concerns.
When the rear window defrost is ON, the heated exterior mirrors receive voltage from the rear window defrost relay through circuit 59 (DG/VT) and ground through circuit 57 (BK).
