TORQUE SPECIFICATIONS

CAUTIONVehicle cooling systems are filled with Motorcraft Premium Gold Engine Coolant VC-7-A (in Oregon VC-7-B) or equivalent meeting Ford specification WSS-M97B51-A1 (yellow color). Always fill the cooling system with the same coolant that is present in the system. Do not mix coolant types.

Note. The addition of Motorcraft Cooling System Stop Leak Pellets VC-6 darkens Motorcraft Premium Gold Engine Coolant from yellow to golden tan.

The cooling system components are the

  1. Engine coolant temperature sensor (ECT sensor) (12A648)
  2. Radiator (8005)
  3. Gades bottle (8A080)
  4. Radiator draincock (8115)
  5. Coolant pump (8501)
  6. Coolant thermostat (8575)
  7. Dual speed fan motor assembly

The coolant pump circulates the coolant.

The coolant thermostat

  1. Controls the engine coolant temperature.
  2. Allows quicker engine warm-up.

The Gades bottle

  1. Provides a location for fill.
  2. Contains coolant expansion and system pressurization.
  3. Provides air separation during operation.
  4. Replenishes the engine coolant to the system.

The fan motor (8C607)

  1. Operates only when the ignition switch is in the RUN position.
  2. Will not operate with the switch in the OFF position.
  3. Operates when the A/C is turned on.

The engine coolant flows

  1. From the lower radiator hose (8286) to the coolant pump.
  2. From the coolant pump to the engine block and the cylinder heads.

A closed thermostat returns the engine coolant to the coolant pump; an open thermostat allows the engine coolant to flow to the radiator.

Engine coolant provides freeze protection, boil protection, cooling efficiency and corrosion protection to the engine and cooling components. In order to obtain these protections, the engine coolant must be maintained at the correct concentration and fluid level in the Gades bottle.

When adding engine coolant, use a 50/50 mixture of clean, distilled water and engine coolant.

To maintain the integrity of the coolant and the cooling system

Note. The addition of Motorcraft Cooling System Stop Leak Pellets VC-6 darkens Motorcraft Premium Gold Engine Coolant from yellow to golden tan.

  1. Vehicle cooling systems are filled with Motorcraft Premium Gold Engine Coolant VC-7-A (in Oregon VC-7-B) or equivalent meeting Ford specification WSS-M97B51-A1 (yellow color). Always fill the cooling system with the same coolant that is present in the system. Do not mix coolant types.
  2. Do not add/mix orange-colored Motorcraft Specialty Orange Engine Coolant VC-2 or equivalent meeting Ford specification WSS-M97B44-D. Mixing coolants can degrade the coolant's protection.
  3. Do not add alcohol, methanol, brine or any engine coolants mixed with alcohol or methanol antifreeze. These can cause engine damage from overheating or freezing.
  4. Ford Motor Company does NOT recommend the use of recycled engine coolant in vehicles originally equipped with Motorcraft Premium Gold Engine Coolant since a Ford-approved recycling process is not yet available.
  5. Used engine coolant should be disposed of in an appropriate manner. Follow your community's regulations and standards for recycling and disposing of automotive fluids.
