REMOTE TRANSMITTER

F250 Heavy Duty, F350 & F-Super Duty
To program (or re-program) transmitter(s) into the remote/keyless entry module, perform the following steps
- Turn ignition switch from OFF to RUN positions or from OFF to ACC positions 5 times within 10 seconds, ending in RUN or ACC position. All doors should lock then unlock to confirm that program mode has been entered.
- Press any button on transmitter. All doors will lock and unlock to verify remote transmitter has been programmed. Repeat this step to program additional transmitters. When finished programming all transmitters, turn ignition off. All doors should lock then unlock to confirm completion of programming. Check operation.
Note. If doors do not respond, press button again (3 times maximum) with same transmitter. If doors still won't lock, go to SYMPTOM TESTS .
Note. The remote/keyless entry module erases all previous transmitters from memory when the transmitters are programmed or re-programmed. The remote/keyless entry module can store up to four transmitters in memory.
Except F250 Heavy Duty, F350 & F-Super Duty
To program (or re-program) transmitter(s) into the remote/keyless entry module, perform the following steps
- Turn ignition to RUN or ACC position. Using a jumper wire, temporarily short terminals of program connector together for duration of programming mode. Program connector is located at base of steering column. All doors should lock then unlock to confirm that program mode has been entered.
- Press any button on transmitter. All doors will lock and unlock to verify remote transmitter has been programmed. Repeat this step to program additional transmitters. When finished programming all transmitters, turn ignition off. All doors should lock then unlock to confirm completion of programming.
- Remove jumper wire from program connector. Check operation.
Note. If doors do not respond, press button again (3 times maximum) with same transmitter. If doors still won't lock, go to SYMPTOM TESTS .
Note. The remote/keyless entry module erases all previous transmitters from memory when the transmitters are programmed or re-programmed. The remote/keyless entry module can store up to four transmitters in memory.
DOOR LOCKS COMPLETELY INOPERATIVE ("F" SERIES PICKUP)
- Check fuses No. 4, 6 and 8. Check wiring for shorts and replace fuses as necessary. If fuses are okay, go to next step.
- Disconnect door lock control module connectors C240, C241 and C242. Measure voltage between ground and connector C242, terminals No. 14 and 25. (Схема №3) Check voltage between ground and connector C241, terminal No. 1. (Схема №1) If reading is 10 volts or more, go to next step. If reading is less than 10 volts, repair open or short in Black/White wire or Light Green/Yellow wire(s). If necessary, charge battery.
- Check for continuity between ground and connector C242, terminals No. 1 and 15. Check for continuity between ground and connector C241, terminal No. 5. If continuity exists, go to next step. If no continuity exists, repair open in Black wire.
- Reconnect door lock control module connectors C240 and C241. Activate lock and unlock switches. Check fuse No. 20 located in power distribution box in engine compartment. If fuse is blown, check for short in Red/Orange, Pink/Orange and Pink/Black wires. Check for shorted lock actuator. If fuse is not blown, go to next step.
- Manually lock all doors. Disconnect control module connector C242. Connect a jumper between connector C242, terminal No. 2 and ground. Temporarily connect a second jumper between connector C240, terminal No. 14 and connector C242, terminal No. 25. (Схема №2)and (Схема №3). Passenger doors should unlock. Temporarily connect jumper between connector C240, terminal No. 14 and connector C242, terminal No. 2. Driver's doors should unlock. If all doors unlock, go to next step. If only driver's door unlocks, repair Pink/Black or Pink/Orange wire, or replace passenger's lock motor. If only passenger doors unlock, repair Red/Orange or Pink/Black, or replace driver's lock motor.
- Using ohmmeter, check for lock switch stuck in LOCK or UNLOCK position. Replace lock switches as necessary. If lock switch works okay, go to next step.
- With driver's switch in LOCK position, check for continuity between ground and door lock module connector C242 terminal No. 4. With driver's switch in UNLOCK position, check for continuity between ground and door lock module connector C242 terminal No. 5. If continuity exists, go to next step. If no continuity exists, repair open in Pink/Yellow or Pink/Light Green wire(s).
- Disconnect door lock control module connector C242. Check for short between connector C242, terminal No. 4 and ground. Check for short between connector C242, terminal No. 5 and ground. Repair short if present. If no short exists, replace door lock control module.
ONE OR MORE DOOR LOCKS DO NOT OPERATE ("F" SERIES PICKUP)
- Manually operate door lock several times to check for binding. Service and lubricate lock and linkage as necessary. If no binding is present, go to next step.
- Remove door trim panel. Measure voltage at suspect door lock actuator while pressing door lock switch. If reading is 10 volts or more, go to step 4). If reading is less than 10 volts, go to next step.
- Connect door lock control module connectors. Move a door lock switch to LOCK position. Measure voltage at connector C242, terminals No. 2 and 16. (Схема №3) Move door lock switch to UNLOCK position. Measure voltage at connector C242, terminals No. 3, 6 and 18. If reading is 10 volts or more, repair open or short in Pink/Black, Pink/Orange, Pink/Yellow, Red/Orange and Pink/Light Green wire(s). If reading is less than 10 volts, replace door lock control module.
- Measure voltage at suspect door lock actuator while moving door lock switch to UNLOCK position. If reading is 10 volts or more, replace suspect door lock actuator. If reading is less than 10 volts, repair open or short in Pink/Black, Pink/Orange, Pink/Yellow, or Pink/Light Green wire(s).
DOOR LOCKS ONLY LOCK OR UNLOCK ("F" SERIES PICKUP)("F" SERIES PICKUP)
- Turn ignition off. Disconnect control module connector C242. If doors will not lock, check for continuity between ground and connector C242 terminal No. 4 while pressing door lock switch to LOCK position. (Схема №3) If doors will not unlock, check for continuity between connector C242 terminal No. 5 while pressing door lock switch to UNLOCK position. If continuity exists, go to next step. If no continuity exists, go to step 3).
- Reconnect all door lock control module connectors. Measure voltage between connector C242, terminals No. 2, 16 and ground while pushing door lock switch to LOCK position. Measure voltage between connector C242, terminals No. 3, 6, 18 and ground while pushing a door lock switch to UNLOCK position. If reading is 10 volts or more, repair open or short in Pink/Black (lock) wire. Repair open or short in Pink/Orange or Red/Orange (unlock) wire. If voltage is less than 10 volts, replace door lock control module.
- Check for continuity between connector C242, terminal No. 4 and ground while pushing door lock switch to LOCK position. Check for continuity between connector C242, terminal No. 5 and ground while pushing door lock switch to UNLOCK position. If continuity exists, replace door lock switch. If no continuity exists, repair open in Pink/Yellow (lock) wire. Repair open in Pink/Light Green (unlock) wire.
POOR ANTENNA RANGE ("F" SERIES PICKUP)
- Ensure antenna is installed properly. Disconnect antenna from door lock control module antenna plug. Inspect antenna connector for damage. Reconnect antenna to door lock control module. Repair or replace antenna as necessary. If antenna is okay, go to next step.
- If more than one transmitter is available, test response of each transmitter to vehicle. If no other transmitters are available, go to TRANSMITTER PROGRAMMING ("F" SERIES PICKUP) test. If other transmitters work okay, go to next step. If other transmitters do not work properly, replace damaged transmitter.
- Disconnect connector C241. Check for continuity between both pins of program connector. If continuity exists, replace program connector. If no continuity exists, repair open White/Yellow or Gray/Yellow wire(s).
SHORTING PLUG/TRANSMITTER PROGRAM MODE ("F" SERIES PICKUP)
- Ensure shorting plug has not been inserted into program connector behind left side of instrument panel. Remove shorting plug if present. Go to next step.
- Disconnect control module connector C241. Check for continuity between ground and White/Yellow wire of program connector. If continuity exists, repair short-to-ground in White/Yellow wire. If no continuity exists, go to next step.
- Using test light, check for continuity between ground and White/Yellow wire of program connector. If test light glows, repair short-to-power in White/Yellow wire. If test light does not glow, go to next step.
- Check for continuity between ground and Gray/Yellow wire of program connector. If continuity exists, repair short-to-ground in Gray/Yellow wire. If no continuity exists, go to next step.
- Using test light, check for continuity between ground and Gray/Yellow wire of program connector. If test light glows, repair short-to-power in Gray/Yellow wire. If test light does not glow, go to next step.
- Measure voltage between connector C241, terminal No. 15 and ground. (Схема №1) If reading is between 4 and 6 volts, go to next step. If reading is less than 4, or more than 6 volts, replace door lock control module.
- Check for continuity between ground and connector C241, terminal No. 10. If continuity exists, go to next step. If no continuity exists, replace door lock control module.
- Reconnect connector C241. Measure voltage between ground and White/Yellow wire of program connector. If reading is between 4 and 6 volts, go to next step. If reading is less than 4 volts, or more than 6 volts, repair open in White/Yellow wire.
- Check for continuity between ground and Gray/Yellow wire of program connector. If continuity exists, transmitter program mode is okay. If no continuity exists, repair open in Gray/Yellow wire.
TRANSMITTER PROGRAMMING ("F" SERIES PICKUP)
- Turn ignition on. Insert shorting plug into program connector. If doors lock and unlock, go to next step. If doors do not lock and unlock, transmitter is not entering program mode. Go to SHORTING PLUG/TRANSMITTER PROGRAM MODE ("F" SERIES PICKUP) test.
- Press any button on transmitter. Repeat procedure for each transmitter. If, when using each transmitter, all doors lock then unlock, go to next step. If door locks do not respond after pressing button 3 times, go to POOR ANTENNA RANGE ("F" SERIES PICKUP) test. If test has already been performed, replace transmitter batteries and return to step 1). If door locks still do not respond, replace door lock control module.
- Turn ignition off. Remove shorting plug from program connector. If doors lock and unlock, door lock control module programming is okay. If doors do not lock and unlock, replace door lock control module.
PARKING LIGHTS DO NOT OPERATE WITH PANIC ALARM ("F" SERIES PICKUP)
- Using headlight switch, turn on parking lights. If parking lights turn on with headlight switch, go to next step. If parking lights do not turn on with headlight switch, go to step 5).
- Disconnect door lock control module connector C240. Disconnect suspect parking light connectors. Check for continuity between door lock control module connector C240 terminal No. 13 and suspect parking light connector Brown wire terminal. (Схема №2) If continuity exists, go to next step. If no continuity exists, repair suspect circuit.
- Disconnect door lock control module connectors C240 and C242. Check for continuity between door lock control module connector C240 terminal No. 13 and connector C242 terminal No. 1 or 15. (Схема №2)and (Схема №3). If continuity exists, go to next step. If no continuity exists, repair Black wire.
- Check parking light operation. If parking light operation is okay, go to next step. If parking lights are inoperative, repair suspect parking light circuit. See EXTERIOR LIGHTS article in WIRING DIAGRAMS section.
- Check circuit breaker No. 12 (20-amp) in instrument panel fuse block. If circuit breaker is okay, repair open or short in Brown wire and go to next step. Replace circuit breaker if necessary.
- Disconnect headlight switch and door lock control module connector C240. If parking lights turn off, replace headlight switch. If parking lights do not turn off, repair short to voltage in Brown wire or parking light circuitry.
HORN ALWAYS ON WHEN PANIC ALARM IS ACTIVE ("F" SERIES PICKUP)
- With horn still on, press horn switch on steering wheel. If horn turns off when switch is depressed, go to next step. If horn does not turn off when switch is depressed, go to step 5).
- With horn off, press horn switch on steering wheel. If horn sounds with horn switch pressed, go to next step. If horn does not sound with horn switch pressed, go to step 4).
- Disconnect door lock control module connector C240. Check for continuity between door lock control module connector C240 terminal No. 26 and horn relay connector Yellow/Light Green wire terminal. (Схема №2) If continuity exists, replace door lock control module. If no continuity exists, repair Yellow/Light Green wire.
- Check horn and horn relay operation. If horn and horn relay are okay, go to next step. If horn or horn relay does not operate, replace horn or horn relay.
- Check condition of fuse No. 8 (15-amp) in instrument panel fuse block. If fuse is okay, go to next step. If fuse is blown, replace fuse. Repair open or short in Yellow/Light Green wire.
- Disconnect door lock control module connector C241. If horn turns off, replace door lock control module. If horn does not turn off, go to next step.
- Disconnect horn switch and door lock control module connector C242. If horn turns off, replace horn switch. If horn does not turn off, repair short to ground in Dark Blue wire or service horn circuitry.
DOOR LOCKS DO NOT OPERATE USING REMOTE TRANSMITTER (VAN)
- Turn ignition off. Reprogram remote transmitter. See «REMOTE TRANSMITTER»(ref-29264-S33216407082001010800000) under PROGRAMMING. After reprogramming, if remote transmitter and door lock control module still do not respond correctly, go to next step. After reprogramming, if remote transmitter and door lock control module respond correctly, test entire system for normal operation.
- Replace remote transmitter batteries. Reprogram remote transmitter. See «REMOTE TRANSMITTER»(ref-29264-S33216407082001010800000) under PROGRAMMING. After battery replacement and reprogramming, if remote transmitter and door lock control module still do not respond correctly, go to next step. After battery replacement and reprogramming, if remote transmitter and door lock control module respond correctly, test entire system for normal operation.
- Using a known good transmitter, reprogram remote transmitter. See «REMOTE TRANSMITTER»(ref-29264-S33216407082001010800000) under PROGRAMMING. After reprogramming known good transmitter, if remote transmitter and door lock control module still do not respond correctly, go to next step. After reprogramming known good transmitter, replace original remote transmitter. Reprogram NEW remote transmitter and test entire system for normal operation.
- Disconnect door lock control module connectors C335 and C336. Turn ignition on. Measure voltage between ground and door lock control module connector C336 terminals No. 2 and 16. (Схема №3) If voltage is greater than 10 volts, go to next step. If voltage is less than 10 volts, repair open in Yellow/Black wire, then retest system.
- Measure voltage between ground and door lock control module connector C335 terminal No. 22. (Схема №2) If voltage is greater than 10 volts, go to next step. If voltage is less than 10 volts, repair open in Black/White wire, then retest system.
- Turn ignition off. Measure resistance between ground and door lock control module connector C335 terminal No. 8. Measure resistance between ground and door lock control module connector C335 terminal No. 21. Measure resistance between ground and door lock control module connector C335 terminal No. 23. If resistance is less than 5 ohms, go to next step. If resistance is greater than 5 ohms, repair open Black/Light Blue wire, then retest system.
- Reconnect door lock control module connectors. Measure voltage by backprobing door lock control module connector C336 terminal No. 3 and ground while pressing remote transmitter UNLOCK button twice. Measure voltage by backprobing door lock control module connector C336 terminal No. 17 and ground while pressing remote transmitter UNLOCK button twice. If voltage is greater than 10 volts while UNLOCK button is pressed, repair Pink/Orange wire, then retest system. If voltage is less than 10 volts while UNLOCK button is pressed, go to next step.
- Measure voltage by backprobing door lock control module connector C336 terminal No. 4 and ground while pressing remote transmitter UNLOCK button. If voltage is greater than 10 volts while UNLOCK button is pressed, repair Red/Orange wire, then retest system. If voltage is less than 10 volts while UNLOCK button is pressed, go to next step.
- Measure voltage by backprobing door lock control module connector C336 terminal No. 5 and ground while pressing remote transmitter LOCK button. Measure voltage by backprobing door lock control module connector C336 terminal No. 18 and ground while pressing remote transmitter LOCK button. If voltage is greater than 10 volts while LOCK button is pressed, repair open in Pink/Black wire, then retest system. If voltage is less than 10 volts while LOCK button is pressed, go to next step.
- Measure voltage by backprobing door lock control module connector C336 terminal No. 6 and ground while pressing remote transmitter LOCK button. Measure voltage by backprobing door lock control module connector C336 terminal No. 19 and ground while pressing remote transmitter LOCK button. If voltage is greater than 10 volts while LOCK button is pressed, repair Yellow/Black wire, then retest system. If voltage is less than 10 volts while LOCK button is pressed, replace door lock control module, then retest system.
UNABLE TO PROGRAM REMOTE TRANSMITTER (VAN)
- Ensure shorting pin is removed from program connector. Try another remote transmitter. If no other remote transmitter is available, go to next step. If other remote transmitter operates, replace original remote transmitter, then retest system. If other remote transmitter does not operate, go to next step.
- Turn ignition off. Disconnect door lock control module connectors C335 and C336. Measure resistance between ground and door lock control module connector C335 terminal No. 10. (Схема №2) If resistance is greater than 10 k/ohms, go to next step. If resistance is less than 10 k/ohms, repair short to ground in White/Yellow wire, then retest system.
- Measure voltage between ground and door lock control module connector C335 terminal No. 10. If voltage is not present, go to next step. If voltage is present, repair short to voltage in White/Yellow wire, then retest system.
- Reconnect all door lock control module connectors. Measure voltage by backprobing door lock control module connector C335 terminal No. 10 and ground. If voltage is between 5 and 9 volts, go to next step. If voltage is less than 5 volts, or more than 9 volts, replace door lock control module, then retest system.
- Measure voltage between ground and program connector White/Yellow wire terminal. If voltage is between 5 and 9 volts, go to next step. If voltage is less than 5 volts, or more than 9 volts, repair open in White/Yellow wire, then retest system.
- Measure resistance between ground and program connector Black wire terminal. If resistance is less than 5 ohms, go to next step. If resistance is greater than 5 ohms, repair open in Black wire, then retest system.
- Turn ignition on. Insert shorting pin into program connector. If all doors lock and unlock, go to next step. If all doors do not lock and unlock, return to step 2).
- Press any button on remote transmitter (may have to press button more than once). Repeat sequence for additional remote transmitter(s). If all doors lock and unlock using any remote transmitter, go to next step. If all doors do not lock and unlock using any remote transmitter, replace remote transmitter batteries. If remote transmitter still does not operate, replace door lock control module, then retest system.
- Turn ignition off. Remove shorting pin from program connector. If all doors lock and unlock, go to DOOR LOCKS DO NOT OPERATE USING REMOTE TRANSMITTER (VAN) test. If all doors do not lock and unlock, replace door lock control module, then retest system.
HORN DOES NOT SOUND WITH LOCK VERIFICATION OR WHEN PANIC ALARM IS ACTIVATED FROM REMOTE TRANSMITTER (VAN)
- Check operation of panic alarm with all remote transmitters. If horn will not sound with all remote transmitters, go to next step. If horn sounds with some remote transmitters but not with all, reprogram malfunctioning remote transmitter(s). See «REMOTE TRANSMITTER»(ref-29264-S33216407082001010800000) under PROGRAMMING. If malfunctioning transmitter(s) still do not operate after reprogramming, replace remote transmitter(s). Retest system.
- Check horn operation by pressing horn switch. If horn operates, go to next step. If horn does not operate, repair horn, then retest system.
- Measure voltage by backprobing door lock control module connector C335 terminal No. 13 and ground while pressing PANIC button on remote transmitter. (Схема №2) If voltage is greater than 10 volts with PANIC button pressed, repair Dark Blue wire, then retest system. If voltage is less than 10 volts with PANIC button pressed, replace door lock control module, then retest system.
PARKING LIGHTS DO NOT OPERATE WHEN PANIC ALARM IS ACTIVATED WITH REMOTE TRANSMITTER (VAN)
- Check operation of panic alarm with all remote transmitters. If parking lights will not operate with all remote transmitters, go to next step. If parking lights operate with some remote transmitters but not with all, reprogram malfunctioning remote transmitter(s). See «REMOTE TRANSMITTER»(ref-29264-S33216407082001010800000) under PROGRAMMING. If malfunctioning transmitter(s) still do not operate after reprogramming, replace remote transmitter(s). Retest system.
- Check operation of all parking lights. If all parking lights operate properly, go to next step. If all parking lights do not operate properly, repair inoperative parking light(s), then retest system.
- Turn headlight switch off. Measure voltage by backprobing door lock control module connector C336 terminal No. 1 and ground while pressing PANIC button on remote transmitter. (Схема №3) Measure voltage by backprobing door lock control module connector C336 terminal No. 15 and ground while pressing PANIC button on remote transmitter. If voltage is less than 10 volts with PANIC button pressed, go to next step. If voltage is greater than 10 volts with PANIC button pressed, repair Red/Black wire, then retest system.
- Measure voltage by backprobing door lock control module connector C335 terminal No. 9 and ground while pressing PANIC button on remote transmitter. (Схема №2) If voltage is greater than 10 volts with PANIC button pressed, repair Brown wire, then retest system. If voltage is less than 10 volts with PANIC button pressed, replace door lock control module, then retest system.
ILLUMINATED ENTRY DOES NOT OPERATE WITH REMOTE TRANSMITTER (VAN)
- Check operation of illuminated entry with all remote transmitters. If illuminated entry will not operate with all remote transmitters, go to next step. If illuminated entry operate with some remote transmitters but not with all, reprogram malfunctioning remote transmitter(s). See «REMOTE TRANSMITTER»(ref-29264-S33216407082001010800000) under PROGRAMMING. If malfunctioning transmitter(s) still do not operate after reprogramming, replace remote transmitter(s). Retest system.
- Check operation of interior lights. If interior lights operate properly, go to next step. If interior lights do not operate properly, repair interior lighting, then retest system.
- Measure voltage by backprobing door lock control module connector C336 terminal No. 7 and ground while pressing UNLOCK button on remote transmitter. (Схема №3) If voltage is greater than 10 volts with UNLOCK button pressed, repair Black/Light Blue wire, then retest system. If voltage is less than 10 volts with UNLOCK button pressed, replace door lock control module, then retest system.
