TORQUE SPECIFICATIONS

The steering linkage system consists of the following components

  1. RH and LH outer tie-rod ends
  2. Inner tie rod
  3. RH and LH tie-rod adjusting sleeves
  4. Sector shaft arm drag link
  5. Sector shaft arm
  6. Steering linkage damper

Steering linkage is the connection between the steering gear and the wheel spindles. This linkage includes adjustment sleeves that provide for vehicle alignment/toe settings. The steering linkage also includes a steering damper that stabilizes and reduces excessive steering linkage movement, which may be transmitted through the steering wheel during adverse driving and steering conditions.

Refer to STEERING SYSTEM .

Note. Dual Rear Wheels (DRW) shown in illustration, Single Rear Wheel (SRW) similar.

  1. With the vehicle in NEUTRAL, position it on a hoist. For additional information, refer to «JACKING & LIFTING»(/ford/econoline-e250/2012-2013/remont/hoistjack/#jacking-lifting) . Position the wheels in the straight-ahead position.
  2. Remove the inner tie-rod end cotter pin and nut. Discard the cotter pin. To install, tighten to 85 Nm (63 lb-ft).
  3. Using the Steering Arm Remover, separate the inner tie-rod end from the sector shaft arm drag link.
  4. Loosen the adjusting sleeve clamp nut and remove the inner tie-rod end. To install, tighten to 55 Nm (41 lb-ft).
  5. Position the adjusting sleeve clamp opening downward within 45 degrees of vertical.
  6. To install, reverse the removal procedure. Install a new cotter pin.
  7. Check and, if necessary, adjust the front toe. For additional information, refer to «SUSPENSION SYSTEM - GENERAL INFORMATION»(/ford/econoline-e250/2012-2013/remont/suspension-front/#suspension-system-general-information) .
