Installation
- Position the front impact severity sensor and install the bolts.
- Reposition the front air foil.
- Connect the front impact severity sensor electrical connector.
- Install the radiator grille.
- Repower the system. For additional information, refer to «SUPPLEMENTAL RESTRAINT SYSTEM (SRS) DEPOWERING AND REPOWERING»(/ford/cutaway-e350/2004-2007/remont/airbag/#supplemental-restraint-system) .
| WARNING | The restraints control module (RCM) orientation is critical for correct air bag supplemental restraint system (SRS) operation. If a vehicle equipped with an SRS system has been involved in a collision inspect the RCM mounting area and bracket for deformation. If damaged, the RCM must be replaced whether or not the air bags have deployed. In addition, make sure the mounting area of the RCM is restored to its original condition. |

Note. The air bag warning lamp illuminates when the RCM fuse is removed and the ignition switch is ON. This is normal operation and does not indicate a supplemental restraint system (SRS) fault.
Note. When installing a new restraints control module (RCM), always make sure the correct RCM is being installed. If an incorrect RCM is installed, erroneous DTCs will result.
Note. The SRS must be fully operational and free of faults before releasing the vehicle to the customer.
Note. Repair is made by installing a new part only. If the new part does not correct the condition, install the original part and carry out the diagnostic procedure again.

- Remove the driver seat. For additional information, refer to «SEATING»(/ford/cutaway-e350/2004-2007/remont/seats/#seat-system) .
- Remove the restraints control module (RCM) cover. Pry outward on each side of the cover to disengage the clips. Slide the cover rearward and remove.
- Remove the restraints control module electrical connectors. Disconnect the large restraints control module (RCM) electrical connector. Pinch the thumb tab and pivot the connector position assurance lever all the way back until it stops. Pull out and disconnect the RCM large electrical connector.
- Disconnect the small RCM electrical connector.
- Remove the bolts and remove the RCM and bracket assembly.
| WARNING | The tightening torque of the air bag restraints control module (RCM) bracket retaining nuts is critical for correct system operation. |
Note. Inspect the RCM bracket bolts for corrosion before securing the RCM and bracket assembly to the vehicle.

- Install the RCM and bracket assembly and tighten the bolts to specification.
- Place the connector position assurance lever in the full release position before attempting to connect the connector.
- With the large RCM electrical connector uniformly aligned, lightly push in until a subtle audible click is heard and slight resistance is felt.
- Push the large electrical connector position assurance lever until the retainer engages and locks into place.
- Align the small RCM electrical connector and push in until the connector is fully seated into the RCM.
- Align and install the RCM cover.
- Install the driver seat. For additional information, refer to «SEATING»(/ford/cutaway-e350/2004-2007/remont/seats/#seat-system) .
- Repower the system. For additional information, refer to «SUPPLEMENTAL RESTRAINT SYSTEM (SRS) DEPOWERING AND REPOWERING»(/ford/cutaway-e350/2004-2007/remont/airbag/#supplemental-restraint-system) .

- Remove the driver air bag module. Remove the two steering wheel back cover plugs. Remove the two driver air bag module bolts. Disconnect the horn electrical connector. Disconnect the clockspring electrical connector. Remove the driver air bag module.
- Install the driver air bag module. Connect the horn electrical connectors. Connect the driver air bag module electrical connector. Position the driver air bag module into the steering wheel. Install the two bolts. Install the two steering wheel back cover plugs.

- Remove the RH lower instrument panel.
- Remove the bolts. Remove the RH lower instrument panel reinforcement.
- Disconnect the passenger air bag module electrical connector.
- Remove the inner RH lower instrument panel reinforcement mounting bracket.
- Remove the passenger air bag module retaining bolts.
- Remove the passenger air bag. Release the passenger air bag retaining tabs, (retainer on each side). Separate the passenger air bag module from the instrument panel. Remove the passenger air bag module.

- Remove or position anything aside that may be blocking the accessibility to the passenger air bag alignment rails.
- Check passenger air bag alignment locators and bolt retainers for damage, repair as needed.
- Install the passenger air bag module. Position the passenger air bag module alignment locators to the alignment rails of the I/P. Align the passenger air bag module deployment door tabs.
- When all tabs and locators are aligned, slide and engage the passenger air bag module into the instrument panel.
- Install the passenger air bag module bolts.
- Connect the passenger air bag module electrical connector.
- Install the RH lower instrument panel reinforcement mounting bracket.
- Install the RH lower instrument panel reinforcement.
- Install the RH lower instrument panel.

- Remove the driver air bag module. For additional information, refer to «DRIVER AIR BAG MODULE»(/ford/cutaway-e350/2004-2007/remont/airbag/#supplemental-restraint-system__driver-air-bag-module) .
- Pull to release the retaining clips and remove the steering column opening lower finish panel.
- Remove the steering column opening lower finish panel reinforcement. Release the pin-type retainers and remove the electrical connector. Remove the screw and data link connector. Remove the bolts. Remove the steering column opening lower finish panel reinforcement.
- Disconnect the clockspring electrical connectors at the base of the steering column.
- Remove the steering wheel (3600). For additional information, refer to «STEERING COLUMN»(/ford/cutaway-e350/2004-2007/remont/steering-column/#steering-column) .
- If so equipped, twist the tilt wheel handle and shank (3F609) and remove.
- Remove the lower steering column shroud (3530). Remove the three screws. Remove the steering column shroud.
- Remove the ignition switch lock cylinder (11582). Position the lock cylinder to RUN. Using a suitable tool, push upward on the cylinder release tab through the hole in the lower shroud while pulling the cylinder outward.
- Remove the upper steering column shroud.
- Apply two strips of masking tape across the clockspring.
- Remove the key-in-ignition warning indicator switch.
- Disconnect the clockspring electrical connector and separate the air bag electrical connector from the bracket.
- Pry the retaining clips loose.
- Separate the wire from the two retaining clips holding the wire to the column.
- Remove the clockspring. Feed the wiring harness through the instrument panel (04320).

- Remove the key from the clockspring, holding the rotor in its centralized position. Do not allow the clockspring rotor to turn.
- Centralize the clockspring. Hold the clockspring outer housing stationary. CAUTION: Overturning will destroy the clockspring. The internal ribbon wire acts as the stop and can be broken from its internal connection. While turning the rotor clockwise, carefully feel for the ribbon wire to run out of length and for a slight resistance. Stop turning at this point. Turn the clockspring counterclockwise approximately 2.25 turns. This is the center point of the clockspring. Do not allow the rotor to turn from this position.
- Remove the tape applied during clockspring removal.
- With the flats of the clockspring aligned to the flats of the steering column, slide the clockspring onto the steering column engaging the retaining tabs.
- Press at the six, twelve, and three o'clock positions to seat the clockspring.
- Rotate the wiring and secure into two wire clips.
- Connect the clockspring electrical connector. Connect the clockspring electrical connector. Install the pin-type retainer into the bracket.
- Install the key-in-ignition warning indicator switch.
- If a new clockspring is used, remove the yellow anti-rotation tab.
- Install the upper steering column shroud.
- Install the ignition switch lock cylinder. Turn the ignition switch lock cylinder to the RUN position. Insert the ignition switch lock cylinder into the steering column housing. Make sure the ignition switch lock cylinder is fully seated and aligned in the inter-locking washer before turning the key to the OFF position. This will permit the retaining pin of the ignition switch lock cylinder to extend into the hole in the steering column.
- Rotate the ignition switch lock cylinder, using the key, to make sure of correct mechanical operation in all positions.
- Install the lower steering column shroud.
- Install the steering column opening cover.
- If so equipped, install the tilt wheel handle and shank.
- Install the steering wheel. For additional information, refer to «STEERING COLUMN»(/ford/cutaway-e350/2004-2007/remont/steering-column/#steering-column) .
- Connect the clockspring electrical connectors. Install the pin-type retainers into the bracket.
- Install the steering column opening lower finish panel reinforcement. Position the steering column opening lower finish panel reinforcement. Install the bolts. Install the electrical connector pin-type retainers. Position the data link connector and install the screws.
- Align the steering column opening lower finish panel and push in to seat the retaining clips.
- Install the driver air bag module. Connect the horn electrical connector. Connect the driver air bag module electrical connector. Position the driver air bag module into the steering wheel. Install the two bolts. Install the two steering wheel back cover plugs.
