Principles of Operation

The DRL system operates the low beam headlamps at a reduced intensity. The DRL module supplies pulse width modulated (PWM) voltage, approximately 75%-92% of battery voltage, to the low beam headlamps when the following conditions are met

  1. The high beam headlamps are disabled.
  2. The ignition switch is in the RUN position.

The DRL module remains enabled when the low beam headlamps are turned on.

Inspection and Verification

  1. Verify the customer concern.
  2. Visually inspect for obvious signs of electrical damage. VISUAL INSPECTION CHART Electrical Battery junction box (BJB) fuse 3 (15A) Central junction box (CJB) fuse 6 (10A) Circuitry DRL module
  3. Verify the headlamps are operating correctly. Correct any concerns before proceeding to the next step. Refer to «EXTERIOR LIGHTING»(/ford/cutaway-e350/2004-2007/remont/exterior-lights/#exterior-lighting) to continue diagnosis of the exterior lighting.
  4. If an obvious cause for an observed or reported concern is found, correct the cause (if possible) before proceeding to the next step.
  5. If the concern is not visually evident, verify the symptom and GO to «SYMPTOM CHART»(/ford/cutaway-e350/2004-2007/remont/headlights/#daytime-running-lamps__symptom-chart) .

  1. A1 CHECK THE VOLTAGE TO THE DRL MODULE Key in OFF position. Disconnect: DRL Module C1030. Measure the voltage between DRL module C1030-2, circuit 932 (GY/WH), harness side and ground. Is the voltage greater than 10 volts? Yes : GO to A2. No : REPAIR the circuit. TEST the system for normal operation.
  2. A2 CHECK THE IGNITION INPUT Key in ON position. Measure the voltage between the DRL module C1030-3, circuit 295 (LB/PK), harness side and ground. Is the voltage greater than 10 volts? Yes : GO to A5 . No : GO to A3.
  3. A3 CHECK CIRCUIT 295 (LB/PK) FOR AN OPEN Measure the voltage between the CJB fuse 6 (10A) and ground. Is the voltage greater than 10 volts? Yes : REPAIR circuit 295 (LB/PK). TEST the system for normal operation. No : GO to A4.
  4. A4 CHECK THE IGNITION SWITCH Key in OFF position. CARRY OUT the ignition switch component test. Refer to «COMPONENT TESTING»(/ford/cutaway-e350/2004-2007/remont/accessories-control-systems/#component-testing) for component testing. Is the ignition switch OK? Yes : REPAIR circuit 297 (BK/LG). TEST the system for normal operation. No : INSTALL a new ignition switch. REFER to «STEERING COLUMN SWITCHES»(/ford/cutaway-e350/2004-2007/remont/steering-column-switches/#steering-column-switches) . TEST the system for normal operation.
  5. A5 CHECK CIRCUIT 13 (RD/BK) FOR AN OPEN TURN the headlamp switch to the headlamps ON position. Make sure the high beams are disabled. Measure the voltage between the DRL C1030-1, circuit 13 (RD/BK), harness side and ground. Is the voltage greater than 10 volts? Yes : GO to A6. No : REPAIR the circuit. TEST the system for normal operation.
  6. A6 CHECK CIRCUIT 875 (BK/LB) FOR AN OPEN Measure the resistance between DRL module C1030-4, circuit 875 (BK/LB), harness side and ground. Is the resistance less than 5 ohms? Yes : GO to A7. No : REPAIR the circuit. TEST the system for normal operation.
  7. A7 CHECK FOR CORRECT DRL MODULE OPERATION NOTE: If a loose or connection, corrosion or other contamination is present, remove the wire connector and clean the contact surfaces and resecure the connector. Disconnect the DRL module connector. Check for: corrosion pushed-out pins Connect the DRL module connector and make sure it seats correctly. Operate the system and verify the concern is still present. Is the concern still present? Yes : INSTALL a new DRL. REFER to «MODULE - DAYTIME RUNNING LAMPS (DRL)»(/ford/cutaway-e350/2004-2007/remont/headlights/#daytime-running-lamps) in this section. No : The system is operating correctly at this time. Concern may have been caused by a loose or corroded connector. CLEAR the DTCs. REPEAT the self-test.
