SYSTEM TESTING

CAUTIONWhen battery is disconnected, vehicle computer and memory systems may lose memory data. Driveability problems may exist until computer systems have completed a relearn cycle. See COMPUTER RELEARN PROCEDURES article in the GENERAL INFORMATION section before disconnecting battery.
  1. Check Fuse - Turn ignition off. Check condition of central junction box fuse No. 21 (40-amp). If fuse is okay, go to next step. If fuse is not okay, replace fuse. Retest system operation. If fuse fails again, check Violet/Blue wire and Violet/White wire for short to ground. Repair as necessary and retest system operation.
  2. Check Violet/Blue Wire For Open - Ensure ignition is off. Remove and disconnect driver door master window switch. Using an ohmmeter, check resistance between central junction box fuse No. 21 (40-amp) output terminal (left terminal) and driver door master window switch 4-pin connector C74b terminal No. 2 (Violet/Blue wire). (Scheme 1) If resistance is less than 5 ohms, go to next step. If resistance is 5 ohms or more, repair open in Violet/Blue wire and retest system operation.
  3. Check Black Wire For Open - Using an ohmmeter, check resistance between ground and driver door master window switch connector C74b terminal No. 3 (Black wire). If resistance is less than 5 ohms, replace driver door master window switch and retest system operation. If resistance is 5 ohms or more, repair open in Black wire between driver door master window switch and ground. Retest system operation.

TEST B: DRIVER DOOR WINDOW DOES NOT OPERATE

  1. Check Driver Door Master Window Switch - Turn ignition off. Remove and disconnect driver door master window switch. Turn ignition switch to RUN position. Connect a jumper wire between driver door master window switch 16-pin connector C74a terminal No. 9 (White wire) and driver door master window switch 4-pin connector C74b terminal No. 3 (Black wire). (Scheme 1)and (Scheme 2). Connect another jumper wire between driver door master window switch 16-pin connector C74a terminal No. 11 (White/Green wire) and driver door master window switch 4-pin connector C74b terminal No. 2 (Violet/Blue wire). If driver door window does not go down, go to next step. If driver door window goes down, replace driver door master window switch and retest system operation.
  2. Check White/Green Wire For Open Or Short To Ground - Turn ignition off. Remove one-touch window down relay (located in driver's door). Using an ohmmeter, check resistance between driver door master window switch connector C74a terminal No. 11 (White/Green wire) and one-touch window down relay connector terminal No. 3 (White/Green wire). (Scheme 2)and (Scheme 3). Check resistance between ground and one-touch window down relay connector terminal No. 3 (White/Green wire). If resistance is less than 5 ohms between connectors and more than 10 k/ohms between relay connector and ground, go to next step. If resistance is 5 ohms or more between connectors and 10 k/ohms or less between relay connector and ground, repair White/Green wire and retest system operation.
  3. Check One-Touch Window Down Relay For Open - Using an ohmmeter, check resistance between one-touch window down relay terminals No. 3 and 5. If resistance is approximately 1000 ohms, go to next step. If resistance is not approximately 1000 ohms, replace one-touch window down relay and retest system operation.
  4. Check Yellow Wire For Open Or Short To Ground - Disconnect driver door window motor connector. Using an ohmmeter, check resistance between one-touch window down relay connector terminal No. 5 (Yellow wire) and driver door window motor connector terminal No. 1 (Yellow wire). (Scheme 3) Check resistance between ground and one-touch window down relay connector terminal No. 5 (Yellow wire). If resistance is less than 5 ohms between connectors and more than 10 k/ohms between relay connector and ground, go to next step. If resistance is 5 ohms or more between connectors and 10 k/ohms or less between relay connector and ground, repair Yellow wire and retest system operation.
  5. Check White Wire For Open - Connect driver door master window switch connectors. Using an ohmmeter, check resistance between ground and driver door window motor connector terminal No. 2 (White wire). If resistance is less than 5 ohms, replace driver door window motor and retest system operation. If resistance is 5 ohms or more, repair open in White wire and retest system operation.

TEST C: RIGHT FRONT WINDOW DOES NOT OPERATE

  1. Check Driver Door Master Window Switch - Turn ignition off. Remove and disconnect driver door master window switch. Turn ignition switch to RUN position. Connect a jumper wire between driver door master window switch 16-pin connector C74a terminal No. 3 (White/Violet wire) and driver door master window switch 4-pin connector C74b terminal No. 3 (Black wire). (Scheme 1)and (Scheme 2). Connect another jumper wire between driver door master window switch 16-pin connector C74a terminal No. 4 (Yellow/Violet wire) and driver door master window switch 4-pin connector C74b terminal No. 2 (Violet/Blue wire). If right front window does not go down, go to next step. If right front door window goes down, replace driver door master window switch and retest system operation.
  2. Check White/Violet Wire For Open Or Short To Ground - Turn ignition off. Disconnect right front door window switch connector C489. Using an ohmmeter, check resistance between right front door window switch connector C489 terminal No. 6 (White/Violet wire) and driver door master window switch 16-pin connector C74a terminal No. 3 (White/Violet wire). (Scheme 2)and (Scheme 4). Check resistance between ground and right front door window switch connector C489 terminal No. 6 (White/Violet wire). If resistance is less than 5 ohms between connectors and more than 10 k/ohms between connector and ground, go to next step. If resistance is 5 ohms or more between connectors and 10 k/ohms or less between connector and ground, repair White/Violet wire and retest system operation.
  3. Check Yellow/Violet Wire For Open Or Short To Ground - Using an ohmmeter, check resistance between right front door window switch connector C489 terminal No. 3 (Yellow/Violet wire) and driver door master window switch 16-pin connector C74a terminal No. 4 (Yellow/Violet wire). (Scheme 2)and (Scheme 4). Check resistance between ground and right front door window switch connector C489 terminal No. 3 (Yellow/Violet wire). If resistance is less than 5 ohms between connectors and more than 10 k/ohms between connector and ground, go to next step. If resistance is 5 ohms or more between connectors and 10 k/ohms or less between connector and ground, repair Yellow/Violet wire and retest system operation.
  4. Check Violet/White Wire For Voltage - Turn ignition switch to RUN position. Using a voltmeter, check voltage between ground and right front door window switch connector C489 terminal No. 2 (Violet/White wire). (Scheme 4) If reading is more than 10 volts, go to next step. If reading is 10 volts or less, repair Violet/White wire and retest system operation.
  5. Check Right Front Door Window Switch - Turn ignition off. Reconnect driver door master window switch. Turn ignition switch to RUN position. Connect a jumper wire between right front door window switch connector C489 terminals No. 1 and 6 (White/Violet wires). (Scheme 4) Connect another jumper wire between right front door window switch connector C489 terminals No. 7 (Yellow/Violet wire) and No. 2 (Violet/White wire). If right front window does not go down, go to next step. If right front door window goes down, replace right front door window switch and retest system operation.
  6. Check White/Violet Wire For Open Or Short To Ground - Disconnect right front door window motor connector. Using an ohmmeter, check resistance between right front door window switch connector C489 terminal No. 1 (White/Violet wire) and right front door window motor connector terminal No. 2 (White/Violet wire). (Scheme 4) Check resistance between ground and right front door window switch connector C489 terminal No. 1 (White/Violet wire). If resistance is less than 5 ohms between connectors and more than 10 k/ohms between connector and ground, go to next step. If resistance is 5 ohms or more between connectors and 10 k/ohms or less between connector and ground, repair White/Violet wire and retest system operation.
  7. Check Yellow/Violet Wire For Open Or Short To Ground - Using an ohmmeter, check resistance between right front door window switch connector C489 terminal No. 7 (Yellow/Violet wire) and right front door window motor connector terminal No. 1 (Yellow/Violet wire). (Scheme 4) Check resistance between ground and right front door window switch connector C489 terminal No. 7 (Yellow/Violet wire). If resistance is less than 5 ohms between connectors and more than 10 k/ohms between connector and ground, replace right front door window motor and retest system operation. If resistance is 5 ohms or more between connectors and 10 k/ohms or less between connector and ground, repair Yellow/Violet wire and retest system operation.

TEST D: ONE-TOUCH DOWN FEATURE DOES NOT OPERATE

  1. Check Driver Door Master Window Switch - Turn ignition off. Remove and disconnect driver door master window switch. Turn ignition switch to RUN position. Connect a jumper wire between driver door master window switch 16-pin connector C74a terminal No. 9 (White wire) and driver door master window switch 4-pin connector C74b terminal No. 3 (Black wire). (Scheme 1)and (Scheme 2). Connect another jumper wire between driver door master window switch 16-pin connector C74a terminal No. 12 (Gray/Orange wire), master window switch 16-pin connector C74a terminal No. 11 (White/Green wire), and driver door master window switch 4-pin connector C74b terminal No. 2 (Violet/Blue wire). If one-touch window down does not operate, go to next step. If one-touch window down operates, replace driver door master window switch and retest system operation.
  2. Check Gray/Orange Wire For Open Or Short To Ground - Turn ignition off. Remove one-touch window down relay (located in driver's door). Using an ohmmeter, check resistance between driver door master window switch connector C74a terminal No. 12 (Gray/Orange wire) and one-touch window down relay connector terminal No. 4 (Gray/Orange wire). (Scheme 2)and (Scheme 3). Check resistance between ground and driver door master window switch connector C74a terminal No. 12 (Gray/Orange wire). If resistance is less than 5 ohms between connectors and more than 10 k/ohms between connector and ground, go to next step. If resistance is 5 ohms or more between connectors and 10 k/ohms or less between connector and ground, repair Gray/Orange wire and retest system operation.
  3. Check Violet/Orange Wire For Voltage - Turn ignition switch to RUN position. Using a voltmeter, check voltage between ground and one-touch window down relay connector terminal No. 2 (Violet/Orange wire). (Scheme 3) If reading is more than 10 volts, go to next step. If reading is 10 volts or less, repair Violet/Orange wire and retest system operation.
  4. Check Black Wire For Open - Using an ohmmeter, check resistance between ground and one-touch window down relay connector terminal No. 1 (Black wire). If resistance is less than 5 ohms, replace one-touch window down relay and retest system operation. If resistance is 5 ohms or more, repair open in Black wire and retest system operation.

TEST E: RIGHT REAR WINDOW DOES NOT OPERATE

  1. Check Driver Door Master Window Switch - Turn ignition off. Remove and disconnect driver door master window switch. Turn ignition switch to RUN position. Connect a jumper wire between driver door master window switch 16-pin connector C74a terminal No. 5 (White wire) and driver door master window switch 4-pin connector C74b terminal No. 3 (Black wire). (Scheme 1)and (Scheme 2). Connect another jumper wire between driver door master window switch 16-pin connector C74a terminal No. 6 (Yellow wire) and driver door master window switch 4-pin connector C74b terminal No. 2 (Violet/Blue wire). If right rear window does not go down, go to next step. If right rear window goes down, replace driver door master window switch and retest system operation.
  2. Check White & White/Blue Wire For Open Or Short To Ground - Turn ignition off. Disconnect right rear door window switch connector. Using an ohmmeter, check resistance between driver door master window switch connector C74a terminal No. 5 (White wire) and right rear door window switch connector C490 terminal No. 6 (White/Blue wire). (Scheme 2)and (Scheme 4). Check resistance between ground and driver door master window switch connector C74a terminal No. 5 (White wire). If resistance is less than 5 ohms between connectors and more than 10 k/ohms between connector and ground, go to next step. If resistance is 5 ohms or more between connectors and 10 k/ohms or less between connector and ground, repair White and/or White/Blue wire and retest system operation.
  3. Check Yellow & Yellow/Blue Wire For Open Or Short To Ground - Using an ohmmeter, check resistance between driver door master window switch connector C74a terminal No. 6 (Yellow wire) and right rear door window switch connector C490 terminal No. 3 (Yellow/Blue wire). (Scheme 2)and (Scheme 4). Check resistance between ground and driver door master window switch connector C74a terminal No. 6 (Yellow wire). If resistance is less than 5 ohms between connectors and more than 10 k/ohms between connector and ground, go to next step. If resistance is 5 ohms or more between connectors and 10 k/ohms or less between connector and ground, repair Yellow and/or Yellow/Blue wire and retest system operation.
  4. Check Violet Wire For Voltage - Turn ignition off. Reconnect driver door master window switch connectors. Turn ignition switch to RUN position. Ensure driver door master window switch lock-out is off. Using a voltmeter, check voltage between ground and right rear door window switch connector C490 terminal No. 2 (Violet wire). (Scheme 4) If reading is more than 10 volts, go to next step. If reading is 10 volts or less, repair Violet and/or Violet/Yellow wire and retest system operation.
  5. Check Right Rear Door Window Switch - Connect a jumper wire between right rear door window switch connector C490 terminals No. 1 (White/Red wire) and No. 6 (White/Blue wire). (Scheme 4) Connect another jumper wire between right rear door window switch connector C490 terminals No. 7 (Yellow/Red wire) and No. 2 (Violet wire). If right rear window does not go down, go to next step. If right rear window goes down, replace right rear door window switch and retest system operation.
  6. Check White/Red Wire For Open Or Short To Ground - Turn ignition off. Disconnect right rear door window motor connector. Using an ohmmeter, check resistance between right rear door window switch connector C490 terminal No. 1 (White/Red wire) and right rear door window motor connector terminal No. 2 (White/Red wire). (Scheme 4) Check resistance between ground and right rear door window switch connector C490 terminal No. 1 (White/Red wire). If resistance is less than 5 ohms between connectors and more than 10 k/ohms between connector and ground, go to next step. If resistance is 5 ohms or more between connectors and 10 k/ohms or less between connector and ground, repair White/Red wire and retest system operation.
  7. Check Yellow/Red Wire For Open Or Short To Ground - Using an ohmmeter, check resistance between right rear door window switch connector C490 terminal No. 7 (Yellow/Red wire) and right rear door window motor connector terminal No. 1 (Yellow/Red wire). (Scheme 4) Check resistance between ground and right rear door window switch connector C490 terminal No. 7 (Yellow/Red wire). If resistance is less than 5 ohms between connectors and more than 10 k/ohms between connector and ground, replace right rear window motor and retest system operation. If resistance is 5 ohms or more between connectors and 10 k/ohms or less between connector and ground, repair Yellow/Red wire and retest system operation.

TEST F: LEFT REAR WINDOW DOES NOT OPERATE

  1. Check Driver Door Master Window Switch - Turn ignition off. Remove and disconnect driver door master window switch. Turn ignition switch to RUN position. Connect a jumper wire between driver door master window switch 16-pin connector C74a terminal No. 16 (Yellow/Blue wire) and driver door master window switch 4-pin connector C74b terminal No. 4 (Violet/Blue wire). (Scheme 1)and (Scheme 2). Connect another jumper wire between driver door master window switch 16-pin connector C74a terminal No. 15 (White/Blue wire) and driver door master window switch 4-pin connector C74b terminal No. 3 (Black wire). If left rear window does not go down, go to next step. If left rear window goes down, replace driver door master window switch and retest system operation.
  2. Check White/Blue Wire For Open Or Short To Ground - Turn ignition off. Disconnect left rear door window switch connector. Using an ohmmeter, check resistance between driver door master window switch connector C74a terminal No. 15 (White/Blue wire) and left rear door window switch connector C1854 terminal No. 6 (White/Blue wire). (Scheme 2)and (Scheme 4). Check resistance between ground and driver door master window switch connector C74a terminal No. 15 (White/Blue wire). If resistance is less than 5 ohms between connectors and more than 10 k/ohms between connector and ground, go to next step. If resistance is 5 ohms or more between connectors and 10 k/ohms or less between connector and ground, repair White/Blue wire and retest system operation.
  3. Check Yellow/Blue Wire For Open Or Short To Ground - Using an ohmmeter, check resistance between driver door master window switch connector C74a terminal No. 16 (Yellow/Blue wire) and left rear door window switch connector C1854 terminal No. 3 (Yellow/Blue wire). (Scheme 2)and (Scheme 4). Check resistance between ground and driver door master window switch connector C74a terminal No. 16 (Yellow/Blue wire). If resistance is less than 5 ohms between connectors and more than 10 k/ohms between connector and ground, go to next step. If resistance is 5 ohms or more between connectors and 10 k/ohms or less between connector and ground, repair Yellow/Blue wire and retest system operation.
  4. Check Violet Wire For Voltage - Turn ignition off. Reconnect driver door master window switch connectors. Turn ignition switch to RUN position. Ensure driver door master window switch lock-out is off. Using a voltmeter, check voltage between ground and left rear door window switch connector C1854 terminal No. 2 (Violet wire). (Scheme 4) If reading is more than 10 volts, go to next step. If reading is 10 volts or less, repair Violet wire and retest system operation.
  5. Check Left Rear Door Window Switch - Connect a jumper wire between left rear door window switch connector C1854 terminals No. 1 (White/Red wire) and No. 6 (White/Blue wire). (Scheme 4) Connect another jumper wire between left rear door window switch connector C1854 terminals No. 7 (Yellow/Red wire) and No. 2 (Violet wire). If left rear window does not go down, go to next step. If left rear window goes down, replace left rear door window switch and retest system operation.
  6. Check White/Red Wire For Open Or Short To Ground - Turn ignition off. Disconnect left rear door window motor connector. Using an ohmmeter, check resistance between left rear door window switch connector C1854 terminal No. 1 (White/Red wire) and left rear door window motor connector terminal No. 2 (White/Red wire). (Scheme 4) Check resistance between ground and left rear door window switch connector C1854 terminal No. 2 (White/Red wire). If resistance is less than 5 ohms between connectors and more than 10 k/ohms between connector and ground, go to next step. If resistance is 5 ohms or more between connectors and 10 k/ohms or less between connector and ground, repair White/Red wire and retest system operation.
  7. Check Yellow/Red Wire For Open Or Short To Ground - Using an ohmmeter, check resistance between left rear door window switch connector C1854 terminal No. 7 (Yellow/Red wire) and left rear door window motor connector terminal No. 1 (Yellow/Red wire). (Scheme 4) Check resistance between ground and right rear door window switch connector C1854 terminal No. 7 (Yellow/Red wire). If resistance is less than 5 ohms between connectors and more than 10 k/ohms between connector and ground, replace left rear window motor and retest system operation. If resistance is 5 ohms or more between connectors and 10 k/ohms or less between connector and ground, repair Yellow/Red wire and retest system operation.

TEST G: BOTH REAR WINDOWS DO NOT OPERATE

Ensure driver door master window switch lock-out is off. Check for open or short to ground in Violet/Blue wire, Violet wire, and Violet/Yellow wire between driver door master window switch and both rear window switches. If circuits are okay, replace driver door master window switch and retest system operation. If circuit(s) are not okay, repair or replace as necessary and retest system operation.
