Removal & Installation

Remove cover below right side of instrument panel. Disconnect blower motor connector. Carefully lift retaining lug on blower motor flange and rotate blower motor counterclockwise about 30 degrees to disengage it from heater housing. Remove blower motor. To install, reverse removal procedure.

Remove cover below right side of instrument panel. Disconnect electrical connector from blower motor resistor on heater housing. Insert tip of a flat-blade screwdriver under lip of blower motor resistor about .020" (5 mm). Pry blower motor resistor from heater housing. To install, snap the blower motor resistor into place. To install remaining components, reverse removal procedure.

Open glove box. Push in sides of glove box to by-pass stops, and fully lower glove box to floor. Remove radio amplifier and bracket (if equipped). Move electronic door lock control module for access to air inlet door actuator. see scheme 1 Remove 2 screws and actuator. Disconnect vacuum hose. To install, reverse removal procedure.

Working under right side of dash, remove 2 lower actuator screws. see scheme 1 Open glove box. Push in sides of glove box to by-pass stops, and fully lower glove box to floor. Disconnect actuator harness connector. Remove 2 upper actuator screws. Remove actuator. To install, reverse removal procedure.

Remove cover from below steering column for access to actuator. Disconnect vacuum hose from actuator. see scheme 1 Loosen 2 nuts that secure actuator to heater housing. Remove actuator. To install, reverse removal procedure.

Remove cover from below steering column for access to actuator. Disconnect vacuum hose from actuator. see scheme 1 Loosen 2 nuts that secure actuator to heater housing. Remove actuator. To install, reverse removal procedure.

Removal & Installation (Contour)

  1. Disconnect negative battery cable. Install Radio Removers (T87P-19061-A) into radio face plate. Push radio removers about 1" (25.4 mm) into face plate to release retainer clips. Slightly spread removers, then remove radio. Remove radio chassis.
  2. Remove finish panel by pulling it away from dash to release the snap clips. Remove 2 screws and heater control panel. Disconnect electrical and vacuum harness connectors. To install, reverse removal procedure.

Removal & Installation (Mystique)

  1. Disconnect negative battery cable. Install Radio Removers (T87P-19061-A) into radio face plate. Push radio removers about 1" (25.4 mm) into face plate to release retainer clips. Slightly spread removers, then remove radio. Remove radio chassis.
  2. Using radio removers, remove CD player (if equipped). Remove CD player chassis. Open ashtray. Remove 2 screws that secure finish panel to dash. Remove finish panel by pulling it away from dash to release the snap clips. Remove 4 screws and heater control panel. Disconnect electrical and vacuum harness connectors. To install, reverse removal procedure.
  1. Disable air bag system. See AIR BAG RESTRAINT SYSTEM article. Disconnect negative battery cable. Drain cooling system. Raise and support vehicle. Detach heater hoses from heater core and plug hose and heater core openings. Disconnect vacuum line from engine vacuum supply.
  2. Lower vehicle. Remove center console. Remove air bag diagnostic monitor from bracket at heater outlet floor duct.
  3. Disconnect vacuum supply line from vacuum reservoir tank. Remove screw that secure heater outlet floor duct to heater core cover. Slide air duct upward. Release retaining tabs and remove heater outlet floor duct.
  4. Release 4 clips that secure heater core cover to heater housing. see scheme 4 Remove heater core cover, vacuum hose and heater core. Separate heater core from cover. Remove heater dash panel seal from heater core. To install, reverse removal procedure. Fill cooling system.
  1. Disable air bag system. See AIR BAG RESTRAINT SYSTEM article. Remove cowl vent screen located near bottom of windshield. Disconnect upper speedometer cable from lower speedometer cable. Remove floor console.
  2. Remove steering column. Remove finish panel from around the instrument cluster (screws are hidden under covers). Remove instrument cluster. Remove heater control panel. See «HEATER CONTROL PANEL»(ref-39981-S22895155112001011200000) . Remove 2 screws from left finish panel at headlight switch. Remove left finish panel by prying it outward to release retaining clips.
  3. Remove glove box. Remove right floor scuff plate (trim panel that runs along bottom of door openings on right side). At right front kick panel, disconnect main wiring harness connectors. Disconnect ground wire (under floor carpet).
  4. Remove 2 instrument panel screws from left end of glove box opening. Disconnect wiring harness connectors from fuse/relay block under left side of instrument panel. Disconnect stoplight switch connectors.
  5. Remove speedometer cable grommet from firewall. Working under instrument panel, pry speedometer cable out of center bracket,at firewall. Remove 3 instrument panel screws from steering column opening.
  6. Remove 2 passenger side air bag bolts. Disconnect antenna from radio chassis. Cut wire ties that secure demister hoses to instrument panel reinforcement.
  7. Disconnect radio amplifier connector. Gain access to bolts at both ends of instrument panel (pull part of the door weather-stripping away and remove bolt cover). Remove instrument panel bolts (2 each). Remove instrument panel. To install, reverse removal procedure.
