Power Mirrors: Removal & Installation Ford Bronco V

REMOVAL & INSTALLATION

WARNINGWhen battery is disconnected, vehicle computer and memory systems may lose memory data. Driveability problems may exist until computer systems have completed a relearn cycle. See COMPUTER RELEARN PROCEDURES article in GENERAL INFORMATION before disconnecting battery.
  1. Remove screw(s) retaining the front arm rest pad to front door trim shield. Remove screw retaining inside door handle. Remove inside door handle. Remove the screw retaining window regulator handle. (Scheme 1)
  2. Remove window regulator handle and washer, if equipped. If equipped with power windows, remove window regulator switch housing. Remove door lock switch, if equipped. Remove the power door lock switch housing.
  3. Remove outside rear view mirror control, if equipped. Carefully pry front door trim panel and pushpins away from front door trim shield, using Rotunda Windshield and Molding/Trim Removal Kit T64P-42006-B (RH) or T64P-42006-C (LH), or equivalent. For installation, follow removal procedures in reverse order. Tighten screw and washer assembly 1-2 N-m (9-17 lb-in).

  1. Disconnect wiring from electronic mirror.
  2. Grasp inside rear view mirror firmly.
  3. Insert Rear View Mirror Remover (T91T-17700-A) between inside rear view mirror bracket and inside rear view mirror. (Scheme 2)
  4. Slide tool completely in to release mirror retaining clip.
  5. Remove inside rear view mirror by using an upward force as shown, while wiggling inside rear view mirror and removal tool from left to right.
  6. To install, slide mirror onto mounting bracket until mirror locks into place. (Scheme 3)

  1. Remove front door trim panel.See «DOOR TRIM PANEL»(ref-29078-S22248352692002082200000).
  2. Disconnect outside mirror control wiring on power mirror. (Scheme 4)
  3. Remove two screws attaching outside rear view mirror to the exterior of the front door.
  4. Remove one screw attaching outside rear view mirror to the interior of the front door.
  5. Remove outside rear view mirror.
  6. For installation, follow removal procedures in reverse order.

  1. Insert a small, thin-bladed screwdriver into spring tab slots located at front and rear of window regulator switch housing and apply pressure to make the window regulator switch housing pop out.
  2. Remove three screws attaching connectors to window regulator switch housing.
  3. Remove outside rear view mirror control by carefully prying the outside rear view mirror control from connector using a small screwdriver.
  4. For installation, follow removal procedures in reverse order. The outside rear view mirror control is keyed to the connector and can only be installed one way.

Removal

  1. Remove the glass assembly, see «SIDE MIRROR GLASS»(ref-29078-S21697761982001010800000). Mark the motor with tape or grease pencil to indicate top of motor.
  2. Remove the four screws attaching the motor to the mirror body. (Scheme 5)
  3. Pull motor away from the mirror body.
  4. Remove the plastic cover plate from the back of the motor. Pull off by hand.
  5. Use masking tape on the wires. Mark on the wire its location in the motor with the terminal number shown on the motor where the wires plug in.
  6. Carefully pull the wires/terminals out of the motor.

Installation

  1. Install wires into the motor by matching the terminal number marked on the wires and on the motor. Remove masking tape from the wires.
  2. Make sure wires are placed in the retaining slots in back of motor, then align the opening in the plastic cover plate with the wires on the back of motor and push-on back cover.
  3. Make sure the rubber seal is properly installed on the motor.
  4. Position motor in mirror body using the mark (added during removal) indicating top of motor and line up the four screw holes.
  5. Install the four screws and hand-tighten. Do not overtighten.
  6. Install the glass assembly. See «SIDE MIRROR GLASS»(ref-29078-S21697761982001010800000) .

Removal & Installation (Early Production)

  1. Push outer edge of outside rear view mirror glass into outside rear view mirror head.
  2. Grip inner edge of outside rear view mirror glass and pull out until outside rear view mirror glass snaps out of outside rear view mirror motor. In this case, carefully pry the pivot out of the outside rear view mirror motor and turn the drive screw(s) (counterclockwise) out of the outside rear view mirror motor and discard. Pivot pins are part of the new outside rear view mirror.
  3. Position the outside rear view mirror glass as shown. (Scheme 6)
  4. Firmly push the outside rear view mirror glass into outside rear view mirror head with the palm of the hand in the center of mirror glass, until it locks.

Removal (Late Production)

  1. Push in on the inboard edge of the glass assembly until it stops.
  2. Protect the mirror body with a rag or similar material at the outboard edge and insert a flat blade screwdriver (in about one inch) between the mirror body and glass assembly.
  3. Pry the glass assembly out from mirror body until it snaps loose.
  4. Remove the screwdriver and continue to pull the glass assembly by hand until it is completely unsnapped.

Installation (Late Production)

  1. Position the glass assembly in the mirror, making sure the U-shaped alignment tabs on the glass are lined up with the motor actuator bar and slightly move glass around until it drops into place. (Scheme 6)
  2. Push on the center of the glass assembly to snap it in place.
  3. Check glass for looseness. If loose, push on glass until it is fully seated.
