DESCRIPTION
Outside power rearview mirrors consist of door-mounted mirrors with internal motor drive and backing plate.
The electronic day/night mirror will change from normal to non-glare position when glare reaches mirror. The mirror functions only at night.
Trouble Shooting
On Aerostar models, ensure fuse No. 8 is okay by operating courtesy lights. On Econoline models, ensure fuse No. 10 is okay by observing operation of digital clock. Ensure all connections are clean and tight. Check continuity of all circuits to fuse. If all connections are okay, mirror motor(s) and/or switch are bad.
Removal & Installation
Disconnect wiring connector at mirror. Loosen mirror assembly-to-mounting bracket set screw. Slide mirror assembly upward and away from mounting bracket. To install, reverse removal procedure. Tighten set screw to 10-20 INCH lbs. (1-2 N.m).
Testing
- Position transmission shift lever in "PARK" position. Turn ignition switch to "RUN" position and mirror switch to "AUTO" position. To check mirror operation, cover photocell on back of mirror case with a Black cloth.
- Using a flashlight, shine light on photocell window on lower right half of mirror control panel. Mirror should cycle from normal to non-glare. When light and cloth are removed from photocell, mirror should return to normal position after about 5 to 15 seconds. NOTE: If backup light switch is stuck in closed position mirror will not operate.
- If mirror does not operate, check fuse and replace as necessary. If fuse is okay, remove connector from rear of mirror. Ensure voltage is present at harness connector circuits. Check all circuits for continuity and shorts to ground. If mirror still fails to operate, manufacturer recommends replacement.
