DESCRIPTION & OPERATION

Power windows are operated by a permanent magnet type electric motor, mounted in each door. A master control switch provides ground to each motor. A circuit breaker is used to protect circuit.

Electric motor operation is changed by reversing electric current flow. The motor operates worm gear in gearbox mounted to electric motor. (Scheme 1) Worm gear rotates pinion gear, which meshes with window regulator.

Three different types of electric window regulators are used: conventional, flexible drive and cable drive. (Scheme 2), (Scheme 3) or (Scheme 4). On conventional regulator, operation of pinion gear rotates sector gear attached to window. On flexible drive regulator, pinion gear meshes with a flexible track attached to window.
