TROUBLE SHOOTING

CAUTIONWhen battery is disconnected, vehicle computer and memory systems may lose memory data. Driveability problems may exist until computer systems have completed a relearn cycle. See COMPUTER RELEARN PROCEDURES article in the GENERAL INFORMATION Section before disconnecting battery.

Remote Keyless Entry (RKE) module may be accessed by carefully prying each end of dashboard top cover, then lifting rear edge of top cover and sliding cover forward to disengage front clips. RKE module is located under right side of dash cover. (Scheme 25)

TESTING

Note. The Remote Keyless Entry (RKE) system is connected to the Body Control Computer system. Testing of the RKE System requires use of the Chrysler Diagnostic Readout Box (DRB) tester to check circuits connected to the Body Control Computer. Only those specific tests for the RKE system are included here. See TESTS W/CODES - BODY CONTROL COMPUTER article in the ENGINE PERFORMANCE Section for complete Body Control Computer testing.

TEST 36A - IDENTIFYING REMOTE KEYLESS ENTRY (RKE) PROBLEM

Note. Perform TEST VER-1 after each repair.

  1. Lower both front windows. Remove key from ignition switch. Close all doors. Lock and unlock doors from both front door switches. If doors fail to lock or unlock properly, perform appropriate test listed in the TEST 36A DIAGNOSTIC DIRECTORY . If doors lock and unlock properly, go to next step. TEST 36A DIAGNOSTIC DIRECTORY Problem Perform Test No. Left Front Door Fails To Lock & Unlock From Any Switch TEST 36B Left Front Door Fails To Lock From Any Switch TEST 36C Left Front Door Fails To Unlock From Any Switch TEST 36D All Doors (1) Fail To Lock & Unlock TEST 36E All Doors (1) Fail To Lock TEST 36F All Doors (1) Fail To Unlock TEST 36G (1) Except left front door.
  2. Using Remote Keyless Entry (RKE) transmitter, operate door locks and trunk lock. If door locks and trunk lock do not operate properly, replace transmitter batteries or substitute a known-good transmitter. If RKE transmitter still does not operate properly, go to TEST 36H . If RKE transmitter operates properly, go to next step.
  3. Insert key in ignition switch. Open left front door. Lock doors from either switch. If doors lock with key in ignition switch, go to TEST 35J in TESTS W/CODES - BODY CONTROL COMPUTER article in the ENGINE PERFORMANCE Section. If doors do not lock with key in ignition switch, go to next step.

If doors do not lock at more than 15 MPH, go to TEST 35K in the appropriate TESTS W/CODES - BODY CONTROL COMPUTER article in the ENGINE PERFORMANCE Section. If doors lock, system is operating properly at this time.
