HEADLIGHT DOOR INOPERATIVE
Turn on headlights with ignition switch in ON position. If headlight door(s) do not operate, check for following possible causes
- Burned fuse, circuit breaker or fusible link caused by short to body ground.
- Wire connector or pin inside connector disengaged at any connector or component in system.
- Defective ETACS module.
- Defective pop-up motor relay.
- Subfreezing weather conditions, mechanical failure or corroded or misaligned assemblies.
HEADLIGHT AUTOMATIC SHUTOFF UNIT
- To access headlight automatic shutoff unit, remove passenger rear quarter trim. Using 12-volt test light, backprobe connector terminal No. 7. (Scheme 2)
- Test light should illuminate during following circumstances: Headlight and ignition switch are both in OFF position. Headlight switch in TAIL or HEAD position and ignition switch is in ACC or ON position. Headlight switch in TAIL or HEAD position. Ignition switch is turned to OFF position and driver's door is opened. Headlight switch in TAIL or HEAD position. Driver's door is open. Ignition switch is turned to OFF position. Headlight switch in TAIL or HEAD position. Driver's door is open. Ignition switch is turned to ON position.
- Ensure headlight switch is in TAIL or HEAD position. Turn ignition switch to OFF position and open driver's door. Turn headlight switch from TAIL or HEAD position to OFF position and then back to TAIL or HEAD position. After following this procedure, test light should not be illuminated.

INPUT SIGNAL
- Access data link connector at lower left corner of dash. Connect positive lead of voltmeter to terminal No. 9 and negative lead to terminal No. 12. (Scheme 3) Check if input signals from system components are being received by ETACS module.
- Voltmeter needle should sweep when each switch is operated (i.e. headlight switch or pop-up switch). If switch or related component is not functioning, voltmeter will not operate when switch is activated. Check related circuit and/or component.

POP-UP MOTOR
- Rotate thumbwheel of motor clockwise to check continuity between connector terminals. Connect positive lead of ohmmeter to terminal No. 1 and negative lead to terminal No. 5. Turn thumbwheel and check that continuity matches range "A". (Scheme 4)
- Connect positive lead of ohmmeter to terminal No. 1 and negative lead to terminal No. 2. Turn thumbwheel and check that continuity matches range "B". (Scheme 4) Replace pop-up motor, if continuity is not as specified.
Scheme 4
POP-UP RELAY
Check continuity of relay using following chart. (Scheme 5) Replace relay as needed.
Scheme 5
POP-UP SWITCH
Check continuity of relay using following chart. (Scheme 6) Replace relay as needed.
