DESCRIPTION
Power windows are operated by a permanent magnet type electric motor, mounted in each door. A master control switch provides ground to each motor. A circuit breaker is used to protect circuit.
Electric motor operation is changed by reversing electric current flow. The motor rotates worm gear in gearbox mounted to electric motor. Worm gear rotates pinion gear, which meshes with window regulator.
Three different types of electric window regulators are used: conventional, flexible drive and cable drive. On conventional regulator, operation of pinion gear rotates sector gear attached to window. On flexible drive window regulators, pinion gear meshes with a flexible track attached to window. A cable-driven power quarter window is used on LeBaron convertible.

SWITCH VOLTAGE TEST
Performing switch voltage test determines if voltage is available at wiring harness. Remove control switch from trim panel. Carefully separate terminal block from switch body. Using test light, connect test light lead to Black or Gray wire terminal. Turn ignition on and touch other test light lead to Tan wire terminal. If test light glows, wiring harness and circuit breaker are okay. If test light does NOT glow, inspect wiring harness and circuit breaker. Perform SWITCH FUNCTIONAL TEST to determine if window switch is defective.
MOTOR LIFT TEST
Remove appropriate door panel. Check motor by connecting positive lead of a 12-volt test battery to either motor terminals. Connect negative lead of test battery to other motor terminal. Motor should operate, unless it is already at maximum travel. Reverse test battery leads. Motor should operate in opposite direction. If motor does not operate properly, inspect wiring. If wiring is okay, replace motor.
SWITCH FUNCTIONAL TEST
Remove master or door switch its mounting position. Use ohmmeter and refer to appropriate MASTER WINDOW SWITCH CONTINUITY CHART or DOOR SWITCH CONTINUITY CHART and (Scheme 4) for test procedure. Refer to MODEL IDENTIFICATION for body classification. Replace switch in question if it fails any continuity test.

| WARNING | Window regulator should not be removed unless window is secured in proper location. DO NOT remove motor from regulator assembly when removing regulator assembly if counter balance spring is used. Removal of motor assembly may cause personal injury. |
Removal
- Raise window to up position. Block window. Window must stay in this position when motor is separated from spring load regulator. Disconnect motor electrical connector.
- Remove tie strap holding motor against inner door panel. Remove 3 motor gearbox-to-regulator mounting screws. Reach through opening in inner door panel and behind regulator to remove motor retaining screws. Remove motor from regulator.
Installation
- Tap threads in new motor screw holes before installation. Install motor on regulator. Ensure motor gearbox engages with regulator sector teeth. Position motor so center post gearbox fits into pilot hole. Rotate or rock motor to align 3 motor gearbox screws.
- Install 3 gearbox screws and one tiedown bracket screw. Tighten to 50-60 INCH lbs. (5-7 N.m). To complete installation, reverse removal procedure.
- Remove door trim panel. Raise or lower window to proper access hole position. Remove flex rack-to-drive arm screw. Drill out regulator attaching rivets. Remove retaining screws (if equipped). Move flex drive regulator motor end outside of large inside panel access hole and rotate regulator out of door.
- For vehicles where window motor will not operate: Drill out regulator attaching rivets. Remove retaining screws (if equipped). With flex drive regulator attached, lift window upward until drive arm screw can be removed. If more access is required, remove 2 holding "T" track to motor gearbox screws. This allows motor from "T" track removal.
- On all vehicles, remove motor gearbox-to-metal "T" track screws. Remove motor.
- Install motor on "T" track. Tighten motor mounting screws to 40 INCH lbs. (5 N.m). Insert top of "T" track into access hole. "T" track must point toward hinge pillar.
- Move "T" track until regulator motor is approximately horizontal. Rotate regulator opposite direction approximately 1/4 turn and align bracket tab to inner panel slot.
- Fasten regulator with proper rivet sequence. (Scheme 2) Operate motor until flex rack is visible within access slot. Attach window and drive arm assembly to flex rack.
