SYSTEM TESTS

Note. For additional testing on vehicles equipped with memory systems, see appropriate BODY CONTROL MODULES article.

AUTOMATIC DAY/NIGHT INSIDE MIRROR

  1. Turn ignition switch to ON position with transmission in Park. Place mirror switch in HI position. Cover forward facing sensor with a dark cloth to exclude any ambient light. (Scheme 2)
  2. Shine a light into rear facing sensor. Observe whether or not mirror darkens. With mirror darkened, place transmission in Reverse. Mirror should return to normal.
  3. If conditions in steps 1 and 2 are met, mirror is operating correctly. If conditions are not met, go to next step.
  4. Test voltage at 3-pin harness connector. With ignition switch in RUN position, pin No. 1 should have battery voltage, pin No. 2 should have continuity to ground and, with transmission in Reverse, pin No. 3 should have battery voltage. (Scheme 2) See «WIRING DIAGRAMS»(ref-3620-S16553625082000051100000).
  5. If circuits are okay, replace mirror. See «POWER MIRROR ASSEMBLY»(ref-3620-S03711194212000051100000) under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION. If circuits are not okay, check wiring harness.

POWER MIRROR SWITCH

Remove power mirror switch. See POWER MIRROR SWITCH under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION. Using an ohmmeter, check continuity between power mirror switch terminals with switch in appropriate position. See POWER MIRROR SWITCH CONTINUITY TEST table. see scheme 1 If continuity is not as specified, replace switch.

POWER MIRROR MOTOR

Disconnect power mirror switch connector. See POWER MIRROR SWITCH under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION. Connect one end of a jumper wire to a 12-volt source and other end to specified power mirror switch connector terminals. Connect one end of another jumper wire to a good ground and other end to specified power mirror switch connector terminals. See POWER MIRROR MOTOR TEST table. If mirror does not operate as specified, check for open or shorted circuit or replace power mirror assembly. (Scheme 3)
