SYSTEM SELF-TEST
When the ignition switch is turned-on the microprocessor is tested. If an error occurs during the test, a DTC will be set into the memory. However it is possible the DTC will not be stored in memory if the error has occurred in the module were the DTC's are stored.
The ABM contains a self check program that illuminates the ABS and ESP warning lights when a ABS system fault is detected. If only the ESP light is illuminated ESP system fault is detected. Faults are stored in memory and are accessible with the scan tool.
System faults remain in memory until cleared, or until after the vehicle is started approximately 50 times. Stored faults are not erased if the battery is disconnected.

Diagnostic Test
- 1) Perform Body Verification Test Disconnect all jumper wires and reconnect all previously disconnected components and connectors. Ensure that all accessories are turned off. Ensure that the battery is fully charged. Turn the ignition on. With the scan tool, record and erase DTCs from all modules. If an electronic control module was replaced, select the applicable module from the scan tool menu and press "Misc. Functions". If the module has programmable features, program as necessary. If any repairs were made to the Power Liftgate, use the scan tool and perform the open and close system tests. Observe the instructions on the scan tool. For MTC systems only, if repairs were made to any of the HVAC door actuator circuits, with the scan tool in HVAC, select System Tests and then select Actuator DTC Detection. The test must pass before proceeding to the next step. For either ATC or MTC systems, if repairs were made to any of the HVAC doors, linkage, door actuators, or door actuator circuits, with the scan tool in HVAC, select System Tests and then select Actuator Calibration Test. The test must pass before proceeding to the next step. Turn the ignition off, wait 10 seconds, and then turn the ignition on. Operate all functions of the system that caused the original concern. With the scan tool, select ECU View. Check for DTCs in the modules. Are DTCs present in any of the modules or is the original condition still present? Yes The repair is not complete. Refer to the related category for the DTC or symptom that is still present. No The repair is complete.
Scheme 1
- Disconnect the positive and negative battery cables from the battery.
- Partially remove the Integrated Power Module (IPM) from the engine compartment.
- Remove the front control module retaining screws.
- Pull the front control module straight from the IPM.
Scheme 2
- Press the Front Control Module (FCM) onto the Integrated Power Module (IPM).
- Install the mounting fasteners.
- Install the IPM.
- Connect the positive and negative battery cables.

There are two Memory Mirror Modules (these are sometimes referred to as Driver Door Modules (DDM) and Passenger Door Modules (PDM) within the memory system. One located in the driver door and one in the passenger door, just behind the door trim panel. The modules send a bus message to the power mirrors to adjust them to a preset position when a memory recall request has been made.
The memory mirror modules also act as an interface in each door for electrical functions (door lock switches and door ajar switches).
The Memory System makes available for immediate recall personalized preferences of the following
- Automatic temperature control settings.
- Outside mirror positions.
- Power adjustable brake and accelerator pedal position.
- Power seat horizontal, vertical, recliner, and easy entry positions.
- Radio push button station selections.
The major components of the Memory System are
- Memory Selector Switch - located in the driver door trim panel.
- Driver Memory Mirror Module (DMMM) - located in the driver door, behind the trim panel.
- Passenger Memory Mirror Module (PMMM) - located in the passenger door, behind the trim panel.
- Sentry Key Remote Entry Module (SKREEM) - located at ignition key cylinder.
- Remote Keyless Entry (RKE) Transmitter - located with ignition key.
- Memory Seat Module (MSM) - located underneath the driver seat and also controls the Adjustable Pedals.
- Radio - located in the instrument panel center stack.
- Automatic Temperature Control (ATC) - located in the instrument panel center stack.
The memory recall is available at the press of a button on the drivers door trim panel or, by using the Remote Keyless Entry (RKE) transmitter if it is programmed to trigger the recall.
Radio settings include up to 20 push button presets (10 AM and 10 FM), and the last station selection, even if it is not one of the 20 preset selections.
REPAIR PROCEDURE - Using StarMOBILE® Standalone Diagnostic Mode
Note. StarMOBILE® Standalone Mode is an efficient way to flash ECUs without having direct access to a network connection. It involves first copying the flash file to the StarMOBILE® device which DOES require a network connection. Once the file has been copied to the StarMOBILE® device, it can be used in a Standalone mode to flash the ECU WITHOUT a network connection.
Note. StarMOBILE® does not need to be connected to a vehicle when retrieving a flash file for Standalone Mode.

- Power on the StarMOBILE®. Launch the StarMOBILE® Desktop Client and connect to the tool.
- At the Home screen, select "ECU View" Select "PCM" Select "More Options" Select "ECU Flash" Select "Browse for New File" and follow the on screen instructions. Highlight the appropriate calibration based on the current ECU part number, or by using Year/Model/Engine and appropriate emissions selection for the vehicle being worked on. NOTE: If you are not connected to the vehicle, you may also search for flash files by selecting the "Flash Download" button from the Home screen.
- From the Flash File List, select the appropriate calibration for the PCM and select "Download to Client"
- Once the download is complete, hit "OK" and then "Manage Files"
- In the Manage Files screen, highlight the downloaded flash file and select "Copy to SM Device". A green check mark should now appear in the On SM Device column.
- Exit the StarMOBILE® Desktop Client application.
- Open the hood of the vehicle and install a battery charger. Verify that the charging rate provides a continuous charge of 13.2 - 13.5 volts.
- Connect the StarMOBILE® to the vehicle data link connector located under the steering column and turn the ignition key to the "RUN" position.
- On the StarMOBILE® device, select "Enter Standalone Diagnostic Mode" (use the right function key). NOTE: If a StarMOBILE® Desktop Client is still associated with the device, you will receive the following error: "Your StarMOBILE® device is currently locked by a PC named 'xxxxxxxx' on your network. To remove the lock, close its Desktop Client or reboot this device".
- Program the ECU as follows: Select "ECU View" Select "PCM" Select "Flash ECU" Record the ECU part number at the very top of the screen for later reference. Highlight the flash file that you want to use. Hit "SELECT" and then "OK". Follow the on screen instructions. Once the flash is complete, verify that the part number at the top of the Flash PCM screen has updated to the new part number. NOTE: If this flash process is interrupted or aborted, the flash should be restarted.
- Continue to «SECTION 2 - ADDITIONAL PCM/TCM REPLACEMENT PROCEDURES»(ref-285349-S18377616242008052100000) to complete the process if the ECU has been replaced.
- Type the necessary information on the "Authorized Modification Label" (p/n 04275086AB) and attach near the VECI label (See «SECTION 3 - AUTHORIZED MODIFICATION LABEL»(ref-285349-S24073530012008052100000) for details).
- 1) TRANSFER CASE VERIFICATION TEST Disconnect all jumper wires and reconnect all previously disconnected components and connectors. With the scan tool, Clear DTCs. Make sure that all accessories are turned off and that the battery is fully charged. Move the Transfer Case Selector Switch to the desired position. Test drive the vehicle in each Transfer Case range and verify proper operation in each range. NOTE: To select or deselect 2WD, AWD or 4HI mode, vehicle speed must be below 88 km/h (55 mph) with all wheels at vehicle speed. NOTE: Shifts will not take place with a wheel speed difference of greater than 21 km/h (13 mph) between the front and rear wheels. NOTE: To select or deselect 4LO (if equipped), vehicle speed must be below 5 km/h (3 mph) with the ignition ON and the transmission in neutral (auto trans) or the clutch pedal pressed (man trans). NOTE: To select or deselect Transfer Case Neutral, vehicle speed must be 0 mph with the ignition ON, engine OFF, the brake pedal applied, and the transmission in neutral (auto trans) or the clutch pedal pressed (man trans). Press the Neutral button (if equipped) on the Transfer Case Selector Switch until the Neutral Indicator is illuminated. WARNING: Apply the parking brake. The vehicle may roll with the Transfer Case in neutral. NOTE: To verify that the Transfer Case is in Neutral, shift the automatic transmission into reverse and release the brake pedal for three seconds or shift the manual transmission into gear and slowly release the clutch pedal. There should be no vehicle movement if the Transfer Case is in Neutral. With the scan tool, read DTCs in the Front Control Module (FCM) and the Instrument Cluster Module (CCN). Are there any Transfer Case DTCs present in the Front Control Module (FCM) or the Instrument Cluster Module (CCN)? Yes Return to the symptom list and perform the appropriate diagnostic test. No Repair is complete.
