WIPER BLADES
With wiper arms removed, cycle wiper motor into PARK position. Mount arms on pivot shafts, and ensure wipers are within 0.59" (15.0 mm) of wiper alignment marks. (Scheme 4) On rear wiper, align blade with line in lower blackout area. Operate wiper blades, and check whether they return to proper position. If wiper blades do not return to this position, check linkage and pivot assembly for wear and binding.

MOTOR WILL NOT RUN
Check for blown fuse. Check voltage at motor. Check wiper switch, ground circuit and wiring. See FRONT WIPER under SYSTEM TESTS.
MOTOR RUNS, BLADES DO NOT MOVE
Check for loose motor crank, disconnected linkage or loose arms on pivot shaft. Check for faulty wiper motor.
BLADES DO NOT PARK PROPERLY
Check for improperly installed wiper arms. Check for faulty linkage. Check for faulty wiring, wiper switch or wiper motor. See FRONT WIPER under SYSTEM TESTS.
BLADES CHATTER
Check for foreign substance on blades or glass. Check for twisted arm holding blade at wrong angle to glass. Check for bent or damaged blades.
WASHERS DO NOT OPERATE
Check for low washer fluid level. Check for contaminated washer fluid. Check for leaking or improperly routed hoses. Check for faulty wiring, wiper switch or washer pump. See FRONT WASHER under SYSTEM TESTS.

INTERMITTENT WIPER RELAY
- Remove relay. See «INTERMITTENT WIPER RELAY»(ref-3655-S10159421322000051100000) under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION. Check continuity between relay terminals No. 30 and 87A. Continuity should exist. Check continuity between relay terminals No. 30 and 87. Continuity should not exist. Check resistance between relay terminals No. 85 and 86. Resistance should be 70-80 ohms.
- Connect battery voltage between relay terminals No. 85 and 86. Check continuity between relay terminals No. 30 and 87A. Continuity should not exist. Check continuity between relay terminals No. 30 and 87. Continuity should exist. Replace relay if continuity or resistance is not as specified.
FRONT WIPER/WASHER SWITCH
Disconnect front wiper/washer switch connector. Check continuity between appropriate switch terminals with switch in specified position. See FRONT WIPER/WASHER SWITCH CONTINUITY TEST table. (Scheme 5) If continuity is not as specified, replace switch.

Disconnect rear wiper/washer switch connector. Check continuity between appropriate switch terminals with switch in specified position. See REAR WIPER/WASHER SWITCH CONTINUITY TEST table. (Scheme 6) If continuity is not as specified replace switch.

FRONT WASHER
Note. Following testing applies when pump does not operate. If pump operates, see TROUBLE SHOOTING . For additional testing procedures, see appropriate BODY CONTROL MODULES article.
- Turn ignition on. Turn wiper switch on. If wipers operate, go to next step. If wipers do not operate, diagnose wiper problem first. See «FRONT WIPER»(ref-3655-S24688246382000051100000).
- Turn wiper switch off. Depress washer switch. Washer pump and wipers should operate while switch is depressed. Wipers should operate about 3 sweeps after switch is released. If wipers are okay but washer is not, go to next step. If washer is okay but wipers are not, go to step 5.
- Turn ignition off. Disconnect negative battery cable. Disconnect washer pump harness connector. Measure resistance between washer pump harness connector Black wire terminal and ground. If resistance is more than zero ohms, repair open in Black wire. If resistance is zero ohms, go to next step.
- Connect negative battery cable. Turn ignition on. While depressing washer switch, check voltage at washer pump harness connector Brown wire terminal. If battery voltage exists, replace pump. If battery voltage does not exist, repair open in Brown wire.
- Turn ignition off. Disconnect negative battery cable. Access CTM and disconnect CTM harness 14-pin connector. Connect negative battery cable. Turn ignition on. With washer switch depressed, check voltage at CTM harness 14-pin connector terminal No. 10 (Brown wire). (Scheme 7) If battery voltage exists, check intermittent relay. See «INTERMITTENT WIPER RELAY»(ref-3655-S28345050582000051100000) under COMPONENT TESTS. If battery voltage does not exist, repair open in Brown wire.

FRONT WIPER
Note. Wiper system utilizes a Central Timer Module (CTM) to control intermittent functions of wiper system. If problem is only pulse wipe or wipe-after-wash, see FRONT WASHER .
Scheme 8
- Check fuse in junction block. If fuse is blown, replace fuse and repair short as necessary. If fuse is okay, go to next step.
- Turn ignition on. Check for battery voltage at fuse. If battery voltage does not exist, repair open circuit between fuse and ignition switch. If battery voltage exists, go to next step.
- Turn ignition off. Disconnect negative battery cable. Disconnect multifunction switch harness connector. Connect negative battery cable. Turn ignition on. Check for battery voltage at multifunction switch harness connector terminal No. 4 (Dark Blue wire). (Scheme 5) If battery voltage exists, go to next step. If battery voltage does not exist, repair open in Dark Blue wire between fuse and multifunction switch.
- If problem is intermittent wipe feature only, go to next step. If problem is with all wiper modes or only HI and/or LO speed modes, go to step 7.
- Turn ignition off. Disconnect negative battery cable. Disconnect CTM 14-pin harness connector. Check continuity between multifunction switch harness connector terminal No. 3 (Brown wire) and CTM 14-pin harness connector terminal No. 10 (Brown wire). If continuity does not exist, repair open in Brown wire. If continuity exists, go to next step.
- Check continuity between multifunction switch harness connector terminal No. 2 (Dark Green/Red wire) and CTM 14-pin harness connector terminal No. 3 (Dark Green/Red wire). If continuity does not exist, repair open in Dark Green/Red wire. If continuity exists, check intermittent relay. See «INTERMITTENT WIPER RELAY»(ref-3655-S28345050582000051100000) under COMPONENT TESTS.
- Check continuity between multifunction switch harness connector terminals No. 6 (Violet wire) and No. 9 (Violet wire). If continuity does not exist, repair open circuit in wiring. If continuity exists, go to next step.
- Check multifunction (wiper/washer) switch. See «FRONT WIPER/WASHER SWITCH»(ref-3655-S13469074472000051100000) under COMPONENT TESTS. If switch tests okay, connect switch and go to next step. If switch does not test okay, replace switch.
- Turn ignition off. Disconnect negative battery cable. Access wiper linkage and wiper motor harness connector. Check resistance between wiper motor harness connector terminal No. 4 (Black wire) and ground. (Scheme 8) If resistance is more than zero ohms, repair open circuit in Black wire. If resistance is zero ohms, go to next step.
- Connect negative battery cable. Turn ignition on. Check voltage by backprobing at wiper motor terminals listed with wiper switch in specified position. See «SWITCH POSITION VOLTAGE TEST»(ref-3655-S00596984592000051100000) table. If battery voltage does not exist at any terminal, repair open in appropriate wire. If battery voltage exists at all terminals and wiper motor does not operate properly, replace wiper motor. To check park switch, go to next step. SWITCH POSITION VOLTAGE TEST Switch Position Terminal No. (Wire Color) All 1 (Dark Blue) Low 5 (Violet) High 6 (Red/Gray)
- Check voltage at wiper motor park switch by backprobing wiper motor connector terminal No. 2 (Dark Green/Yellow wire) with multifunction switch in low or high position, then move switch to off. Voltage should vary between battery voltage and zero volts while wiper motor is cycling. Battery voltage should be present when switch is turned off, and zero volts when wipers return to park position. If voltage is not as specified, replace wiper motor.
REAR WASHER
Note. Following testing applies when pump does not operate. If pump operates, see TROUBLE SHOOTING .
- Turn ignition on. Turn rear wiper switch on. If rear wipers operate, go to next step. If rear wipers do not operate, diagnose rear wiper problem first. See «REAR WIPER»(ref-3655-S41809695702000051100000) .
- Turn ignition off. Disconnect negative battery cable. Disconnect rear washer pump harness connector. Check resistance between rear washer pump harness connector terminal "B" (Black wire) and ground. If resistance is more than zero ohms, repair open in Black wire. If resistance is zero ohms, go to next step.
- Connect negative battery cable. Turn ignition on. While depressing washer switch, check voltage at rear washer pump harness connector terminal No. 1 (Black/White wire). If battery voltage exists, replace pump. If battery voltage does not exist, go to next step.
- Turn ignition off. Disconnect negative battery cable. Disconnect rear wiper/washer switch harness connector. Disconnect rear wiper motor harness connector. Check continuity between rear washer pump harness connector terminal No. 1 (Black/White wire) and ground. If continuity exists, repair short to ground in Black/White wire. If continuity does not exist, go to next step.
- Check continuity between rear washer pump harness connector terminal No. 1 (Black/White wire) and rear wiper/washer switch harness connector terminal No. 8 (Black/White wire). If continuity does not exist, repair open in Black/White wire. If continuity exists, replace switch.
REAR WIPER
Note. If problem involves only rear wipe-after-wash mode, check circuit between washer pump and rear wiper motor. See WIRING DIAGRAMS .
- Check fuses. If fuses are okay, go to next step. If fuses are blown, replace fuse(s) and repair circuit(s) as necessary.
- Disconnect negative battery cable. Disconnect rear wiper/washer switch connector. Connect negative battery cable. Turn ignition on. Check voltage at rear wiper/washer switch connector terminal No. 7 (Red/Dark Green wire). (Scheme 6) If battery voltage exists, go to next step. If voltage does not exist, repair open in Red/Dark Green wire between junction block and rear wiper/washer switch connector.
- Turn ignition off. Disconnect negative battery cable. Check continuity between rear wiper/washer switch connector terminal No. 4 (Black wire) and ground. If continuity exists, go to next step. If continuity does not exist, repair open in Black wire.
- Test rear wiper/washer switch. See «REAR WIPER/WASHER SWITCH»(ref-3655-S31058905172000051100000) under COMPONENT TESTS. If switch is not okay, replace rear wiper/washer switch. If switch is okay, go to next step.
- Disconnect rear wiper motor connector. Connect negative battery cable. Check voltage at rear wiper motor connector terminal No. 4 (Pink wire). If battery voltage exists, go to next step. If voltage does not exist, repair open in Pink wire between junction block and rear wiper motor connector.
- Turn ignition off. Disconnect negative battery cable. Check continuity between rear wiper motor connector terminal No. 1 (Black wire) and ground. If continuity exists, go to next step. If continuity does not exist, repair open in Black wire.
- Check continuity between rear wiper motor connector terminal No. 3 (Brown/Orange wire) and ground. If continuity does not exist, go to next step. If continuity exists, repair short to ground in Brown/Orange wire.
- Check continuity between rear wiper motor connector terminal No. 3 (Brown/Orange wire) and rear wiper/washer switch connector terminal No. 2 (Brown/Orange wire). If continuity exists, replace wiper motor. If continuity does not exist, repair open in Brown/Orange wire.
CENTRAL TIMER MODULE (CTM)
Note. When installing new high line CTM, use scan tool to determine customer preferred settings before replacement. Settings must be enabled/disabled using scan tool.
WIPER ARMS
Note. DO NOT pry wiper arms off pivot shaft. Damage may result, allowing wiper to come loose. Use battery terminal puller to remove wiper arms.
WIPER MOTOR
Note. Front wiper linkage and motor are replaced as a unit.
Note. Front wiper/washer switch is part of multifunction steering column switch. If wiper/washer switch fails, entire multifunction switch must be replaced.
