PROGRAMMING

RKE TRANSMITTER & CTM
Scan tool is required to program transmitter and CTM. Select THEFT ALARM, VTSS, MISCELLANEOUS and PROGRAM RKE on scan tool, and follow instructions on scan tool screen.
RKE SYSTEM OR DOOR LOCK SWITCHES INOPERATIVE
Check fuses in junction block.
TRANSMITTER WILL NOT LOCK OR UNLOCK DOORS
Check transmitter batteries. Replace as necessary. Check power and ground circuits of power lock and CTM. On Durango, check driver unlock relay. On all models, see WIRING DIAGRAMS . If system still does not operate, replace transmitter.
POWER LOCKS DON'T WORK WITH RKE, BUT WORK WITH LOCK SWITCHES
Check RKE transmitter. See RKE TRANSMITTER .
POWER LOCKS WORK WITH RKE, BUT DO NOT WORK WITH ONE OR BOTH LOCK SWITCHES
Check power lock switches. See POWER DOOR LOCKS & LIFTGATE RELEASE - DAKOTA, DURANGO & RAM PICKUP article.
ONE POWER LOCK DOES NOT WORK WITH RKE OR LOCK SWITCHES
Check power lock motor. See POWER DOOR LOCKS & LIFTGATE RELEASE - DAKOTA, DURANGO & RAM PICKUP article.
ANTI-THEFT FEATURES (IF EQUIPPED) DO NOT WORK
If horn chirp does not work, check panic, horn and/or headlight relay. If relay is okay, or any other feature does not work, check CTM using scan tool.
RKE TRANSMITTER
Replace transmitter batteries. Reprogram suspect transmitter and a known-good transmitter. See PROGRAMMING . Test system with both transmitters. If both transmitters do not operate system, diagnose system using scan tool. If known-good transmitter operates system, but suspect transmitter does not, replace faulty transmitter. Repeat transmitter programming.
RELAYS

- Remove suspect relay from vehicle. See «COMPONENT LOCATIONS»(ref-3647-S00203617252000051100000). Using an ohmmeter, check for continuity between relay terminals No. 87A and 30. (Scheme 21) If continuity does not exist, replace relay. If continuity exists, go to next step.
- Check for continuity between relay terminals No. 30 and 87. If continuity exists, replace relay. If continuity does not exist, check resistance between relay terminals No. 85 and 86. If resistance is not 70-80 ohms, replace relay. If resistance is 70-80 ohms, go to next step.
- Using jumper wires, connect positive battery voltage to relay terminal No. 86 and ground to relay terminal No. 85. Continuity should exist between terminals No. 30 and 87. Continuity should not exist between relay terminals No. 87A and 30. If continuity is not as specified, replace relay. If continuity is as specified, relay is okay.

CENTRAL TIMER MODULE (CTM)
Note. Before testing remote keyless entry system, ensure power door lock system operates correctly. See POWER DOOR LOCKS & LIFTGATE RELEASE - DAKOTA, DURANGO & RAM PICKUP article.
Note. This testing may be inconclusive. Using the Chrysler Diagnostic Readout Box (DRB) scan tool or generic scan tool to check circuits connected to the Central Timer Module (CTM) is recommended. See appropriate BODY CONTROL MODULES article.
Note. If horn chirp feature is only problem being diagnosed, check horn enable/disable, then check horn relay. See RELAYS under COMPONENT TESTS. If relay checks okay, or problem is speed-triggered locking, door lock inhibit or accident response feature, scan tool diagnosis is recommended.
Scheme 22
- Check fuses supplying power to system. See «CTM FUSE APPLICATION»(ref-3647-S40538713212000051100000) table. If fuses are okay, go to next step. If any fuse is blown, repair shorted circuit(s) and replace fuse(s). See «WIRING DIAGRAMS»(ref-3647-S37408345162000051100000). Go to next step. CTM FUSE APPLICATION Application Fuse No. Dakota Always 13 (20-amp) Ignition On (1) 6 (20-amp), 11 (10-amp) Durango Always 13 (15-amp) Ignition On 2 (20-amp) Ram Pickup Always 13 (10-amp) Ignition On 11 (10-amp) (1) Circuit breaker No. 20 (25-amp).
- Check for voltage at fuses. See «CTM FUSE APPLICATION»(ref-3647-S40538713212000051100000) table. If voltage exists, go to next step. If voltage does not exist, repair open circuit. Go to next step.
- Disconnect negative battery cable. Access and disconnect CTM connectors. (Scheme 22) Ensure connectors and terminals are in good condition. Repair as necessary. Go to next step.
- Check continuity between CTM harness connector and ground. See «CTM GROUND IDENTIFICATION»(ref-3647-S13919632482000051100000) table. If continuity exists, go to next step. If continuity does not exist, repair open circuit(s) as necessary. Go to next step. CTM GROUND IDENTIFICATION Application Wire Color Dakota Connector C1 Terminal No. 6 Black/Light Green Connector C2 Terminal No. 3 Black Durango Connector C1 Terminal No. 6 Black/Tan Connector C2 Terminal No. 3 Black Ram Pickup Connector C1 Terminal No. 6 Black/Light Green Connector C2 Terminal No. 3 Black/Orange
- Reconnect negative battery cable. Check for battery voltage at CTM harness connector C1 terminal No. 14 (Red wire). If voltage exists, go to next step. If voltage does not exist, repair open circuit to junction block.
- Check for battery voltage at CTM connector C2 terminal No. 4 while pressing each door lock switch to LOCK. If battery voltage exists, go to next step. If voltage does not exist, repair open circuit between lock switch(es) and CTM.
- Check for battery voltage at CTM connector C2 terminal No. 13 CTM while pressing each door lock switch to UNLOCK. If battery voltage exists, go to next step. If voltage does not exist, repair open circuit between lock switch(es) and CTM.
- Disconnect negative battery cable. Reconnect CTM connectors. Reconnect battery cable. Check for battery voltage by backprobing CTM connector C2 terminal No. 1 while pressing each door lock switch to LOCK position. Repeat test, pressing RKE transmitter LOCK button. If battery voltage exists, go to next step. If voltage does not exist using RKE, check RKE transmitter. If voltage does not exist using lock switch, check power lock switch. If voltage does not exist using RKE and lock switch, replace CTM.
- Check for battery voltage at CTM connector C2 terminal No. 9 while pressing lock switch to UNLOCK position. Repeat test, pressing UNLOCK button on RKE transmitter. If battery voltage exists, check power lock motor. See POWER DOOR LOCKS & LIFTGATE RELEASE - DAKOTA, DURANGO & RAM PICKUP article. If voltage does not exist using RKE, check RKE transmitter. If voltage does not exist using unlock switch, check power lock switch. See POWER DOOR LOCKS & LIFTGATE RELEASE - DAKOTA, DURANGO & RAM PICKUP article. If voltage does not exist using RKE and lock switch, replace CTM.
Note. If CTM is replaced, check and record programmable settings prior to removal for programming replacement CTM. Transmitter codes and customer preferences must be programmed into replacement CTM memory using scan tool. See PROGRAMMING .
