ALTERNATOR WARNING LIGHT
This light comes on when the ignition key is in the ON position and goes out after engine is started. If light remains on or comes on while driving, battery or charging system may be malfunctioning. System should be checked as soon as possible.
AIR BAG WARNING LIGHT
The AIR BAG warning light comes on for 6-8 seconds as a bulb check when ignition is turned on. If light does not illuminate, check light bulb. If light stays on or comes on during driving, system should be checked as soon as possible.
BRAKE WARNING LIGHT
With the ignition key in the ON position and the parking brake applied, the light should illuminate and should go off when the parking brake is released. If it remains lit after the parking brake has been released, then the parking brake switch may be inoperative or the brake fluid level may be low. If fluid level is too low, check the system and service immediately. Prolonged driving under this condition is dangerous.
Vehicle is equipped with dual braking system which provides backup braking capability should a failure occurs in either half of the hydraulic system. Warning light will come on and remain on if brake fluid pressure is too low in either half of the system.
CHECK ENGINE LIGHT
CHECK ENGINE light comes on during engine start-up and remains on briefly as a bulb check. If light does not come on as described, check light bulb. If light comes on while driving, it indicates a potential engine control problem. System should be checked as soon as possible. Prolonged driving with light illuminated may cause severe engine damage. Driveability and fuel economy may also be affected.
On vehicles with turbochargers, CHECK ENGINE light may come on during full acceleration to indicate excessive boost or engine RPM. Operating vehicle in this manner for a long period of time can cause engine damage.
DOOR/REAR HATCH-AJAR WARNING LIGHT
This light comes on when door is either open or not completely closed. Ensure light is off before starting the vehicle.
OIL PRESSURE INDICATOR
This indicates low engine oil pressure, but does not indicate amount of oil in the engine. If oil pressure is low, have system checked as soon as possible. DO NOT operate vehicle until cause is located and corrected.
VOLTMETER INDICATOR
If the battery is in good condition, voltmeter should register between 12 volts and 16 volts with the engine running. If it is constantly below 12 volts or above 16 volts, it indicates a malfunction in the battery or the charging system. Check and service system as necessary.
ANTI-LOCK WARNING LIGHT (IF EQUIPPED)
This light comes on when ignition is in the ON position and may stay on for as long as 30 seconds. If light stays on or comes on while driving, it indicates that the anti-lock portion of the brake system is not functioning. Check and service system as necessary.
OVERHEAT WARNING LIGHT (IF EQUIPPED)
This light comes on when the engine is overheating. Stop vehicle and turn off engine as soon as possible.
