- Remove halfshaft assembly from vehicle. Refer to «REMOVAL»(ref-646219-S30341200882014072800000) .
- Remove the large clamp (2) retaining CV joint sealing boot (1) to CV joint housing and discard clamp.
- Remove small clamp (2) holding CV joint boot (1) to interconnecting shaft and discard clamp.
- Remove boot from CV joint housing and slide it down interconnecting shaft to expose the CV joint.
- Wipe away grease to expose outer CV joint and interconnecting shaft.
- Using a suitable vise with brass jaw insulators, secure the interconnecting shaft to prepare to remove the CV joint from the interconnecting shaft.
- Using a dead-blow hammer (1), sharply strike the outer edge of the CV joint (2) to disengage the spider (3) from the circlip on interconnecting shaft.
- Slide outer CV joint (2) off end of interconnecting shaft.
- Remove the circlip from the end of the interconnecting shaft.
- Slide the boot off interconnecting shaft.
- Wipe excess lubricant from CV joint and inspect CV joint and interconnecting shaft for damage or excessive wear. If the CV joint shows signs of excessive wear, the halfshaft assembly must be replaced.

- Install a NEW circlip into the groove on the interconnecting shaft.
- Position clamps in the grooves on the new CV joint boot (1).
- Slide the new CV boot (1) onto the interconnecting shaft (4) until the boot seats is in the groove (3) on interconnecting shaft.
- Align splines on interconnecting shaft with splines on CV joint hub (1) and push the CV joint onto interconnecting shaft. NOTE: Verify that the circlip compresses into the groove in the interconnecting shaft as the CV joint is installed on to the interconnecting shaft.
- Using a brass hammer, drive the CV joint (1) onto the interconnecting shaft (3) until CV joint (1) is fully seated on the interconnecting shaft (3). NOTE: Use ONLY the lubricant provided with the NEW boot during the assembly of the CV joint boot.
- Apply 1/2 of the tube of lubricant, provided with the new boot, into the CV joint while articulating the joint in the housing. Apply the remaining amount inside the CV joint boot.
- Position the small clamp (3) into CV joint boot recess (4).
- Using Special Tool (special tool #C-4975A, Installer, Axle Clamp), crimp (2) the small clamp (1) to hold the small end of the tripod boot (4) onto the interconnecting shaft (3). NOTE: Tighten tool until the jaws are closed and the clamp is fully crimped (2).
- Seat the large end of the CV joint Boot onto the CV joint housing.
- Inspect the CV joint boot to verify that it is not distorted or wrinkled in any way. NOTE: It may be necessary to equalize the air inside boot to gain the proper shape.
- An awl or trim stick can be inserted under the boot lip to equalize the air inside the boot.
- Wrap new large "latching type boot clamp" around the CV joint boot large end and snap the ends of the clamp together in preparation for compressing the clamp.
- Insert the prongs of Clamp Locking Tool (2) in the raised holes (1) on the clamp.
- Squeeze tool together until the barbs (2) on underside of the clamp, lock into the windows in the topside of the clamp.
- Install the halfshaft in the vehicle. Refer to «INSTALLATION»(ref-646219-S37404040972014072800000) .

- Remove the halfshaft from the vehicle. Refer to «REMOVAL»(ref-646219-S30341200882014072800000) .
- Remove large boot clamp (1) holding the inner tripod joint sealing boot (1) to tripod joint housing (2) and discard.
- Remove small clamp (2) holding the inner tripod joint boot to interconnecting shaft and discard.
- Push the boot down the interconnecting shaft to expose the tripod housing and tripod joint.
- Slide the tripod joint housing off the spider assembly (2) and the interconnecting shaft.
- Remove snap-ring (3) holding the spider assembly to the interconnecting shaft. CAUTION: Do not hit spider assembly bearings when removing spider assembly.
- Slide the spider assembly (1) from interconnecting shaft (4). If spider assembly (1) will not come off interconnecting shaft by hand, it can be removed by tapping spider assembly with a brass drift (3).
- Slide sealing boot off interconnecting shaft.
- Thoroughly clean and inspect spider assembly, tripod joint housing, and interconnecting shaft for any signs of excessive wear. If any parts show signs of excessive wear, the halfshaft assembly will require replacement. Component parts of these halfshaft assemblies are not serviceable.
