INSTALLATION

Note. All suspension components should be tighten with the weight of the vehicle on them (curb height).

1 - UPPER CONTROL ARM
2 - UPPER BOLT
3 - LOWER BOLT
4 - WASHER
5 - NUT
6 - LOWER CONTROL ARM
  1. Position the lower control arm (6) at the frame rail brackets. Install the pivot bolts (5) washers (4) and nuts (3). Tighten the nuts finger-tight. CAUTION: The ball joint stud taper must be CLEAN and DRY before installing the knuckle. Clean the stud taper with mineral spirits to remove dirt and grease. 1 - UPPER BALL JOINT NUT 2 - UPPER BALL JOINT 3 - UPPER CONTROL ARM 4 - LOWER CONTROL ARM 5 - LOWER BALL JOINT 6 - LOWER BALL JOINT NUT 7 - KNUCKLE
  2. Install the steering knuckle (7). See «Front Suspension/Front/KNUCKLE, Steering - Installation»(ref-352625-S38268155552010010600000) .
  3. Insert the lower ball joint (5) into the steering knuckle (7). Install and tighten the retaining nut (6) to 129 N.m (95 ft. lbs.). 1 - SHOCK ASSEMBLY 2 - UPPER SHOCK NUTS 3 - LOWER CONTROL ARM 4 - LOWER SHOCK BOLT 5 - LOWER SHOCK BOLT NUT
  4. Install shock absorber lower bolt (5) and nut (4). Tighten to 210 N.m (155 ft. lbs.). 1 - UPPER BALL JOINT NUT 2 - UPPER BALL JOINT 3 - UPPER CONTROL ARM 4 - LOWER CONTROL ARM 5 - LOWER BALL JOINT 6 - LOWER BALL JOINT NUT 7 - KNUCKLE
  5. Install the front halfshaft nut 4X4 .
  6. Insert the upper ball joint (2) into the steering knuckle (7). Install and tighten the retaining nut (1) to 95 N.m (70 ft. lbs.).
  7. Install the stabilizer bar link. See «Front Suspension/Front/LINK, Stabilizer Bar - Installation»(ref-352625-S03256816872010010600000) and tighten to 102 N.m (75 ft. lbs.). 1 - UPPER CONTROL ARM 2 - UPPER BOLT 3 - LOWER BOLT 4 - WASHER 5 - NUT 6 - LOWER CONTROL ARM
  8. Tighten the lower control arm pivot nut (3) and bolts (5) (to 149 N.m (110 ft. lbs.).
  9. Insert the outer tie rod end (2) into the steering knuckle (5). Install and tighten the retaining nut (1) to 108 N.m (80 ft. lbs.).
  10. Install the disc brake rotor. Refer to «Brakes/Hydraulic/Mechanical/ROTOR, Brake - Installation»(ref-352626-S10595474172010010600000) .
  11. Install the disc brake caliper and adaptor assembly and tighten to 135 N.m (100 ft. lbs.). Refer to «Brakes/Hydraulic/Mechanical/CALIPER, Disc Brake - Installation»(ref-352626-S18872187982010010600000) .
  12. Install the wheel and tire assembly. Refer to «Tires and Wheels/Wheels - Standard Procedure»(ref-352628-S00558107832010010600000) .
  13. Remove the support and lower the vehicle.
  14. Perform a wheel alignment. See «Front Suspension/Wheel Alignment - Standard Procedure»(ref-352625-S04716679742010010600000) .

  1. Raise and support vehicle.
  2. Remove wheel and tire assembly.
  3. Remove the nut from upper ball joint.
  4. Separate upper ball joint (1) from the steering knuckle (3) with puller 8677 (2). CAUTION: When installing puller 8677 (2) to separate the ball joint, be careful not to damage the ball joint seal.
  5. Remove the wheel speed sensor wire (5) from the retaining brackets (3) to the upper control arm (4).
  6. Remove the control arm pivot bolts(1) and nuts (2) and remove control arm (4).

Note. All suspension components should be tighten with the weight of the vehicle on them (curb height).

  1. Position the control arm (4) into the frame brackets. Install bolts (1) and nuts (2). Tighten to 176 N.m (130 ft. lbs.).
  2. Reposition the wheel speed wire (5) into the retaining brackets (3).
  3. Insert ball joint (6) in steering knuckle (7) and tighten ball joint nut to 95 N.m (70 ft. lbs.).
  4. Install the wheel and tire assembly. Refer to «Tires and Wheels/Wheels - Standard Procedure»(ref-352628-S00558107832010010600000) .
  5. Remove the support and lower vehicle.
  6. Perform a wheel alignment. See «Front Suspension/Wheel Alignment - Standard Procedure»(ref-352625-S04716679742010010600000) .
  1. Install the brake dust shield (5).
  2. Install the hub/bearing (1) into the steering knuckle (4) and tighten the bolts (3) to 163 N.m (120 ft. lbs.).
  3. Install the brake rotor and caliper. Refer to «Brakes/Hydraulic/Mechanical/ROTOR, Brake - Installation»(ref-352626-S10595474172010010600000) .
  4. Install the ABS wheel speed sensor (2) if equipped. Refer to «Brakes/Electrical/SENSOR, Wheel Speed - Installation»(ref-352629-S38758426002010010600000) .
  5. Install the halfshaft nut and tighten to 251 N.m (185 ft. lbs.) 4X4 only .
  6. Install the wheel and tire assembly. Refer to «Tires and Wheels/Wheels - Standard Procedure»(ref-352628-S00558107832010010600000) .
  7. Remove the support and lower vehicle.

REMOVAL

  1. Raise and support the vehicle.
  2. Remove the wheel and tire assembly.
  3. Remove the brake caliper, rotor. Refer to «Brakes/Hydraulic/Mechanical/ROTOR, Brake - Removal»(ref-352626-S16824195272010010600000) , shield and ABS wheel speed sensor if equipped. Refer to «Brakes/Electrical/SENSOR, Wheel Speed - Removal»(ref-352629-S29546426292010010600000) .
  4. Remove the front halfshaft nut 4X4 only .
  5. Remove the tie rod end nut (1).
  6. Separate the tie rod (2) from the knuckle with puller C-3894-A (1). CAUTION: When installing puller 8677 to separate the ball joint, be careful not to damage the ball joint seal. 1 - UPPER BALL JOINT NUT 2 - UPPER BALL JOINT 3 - UPPER CONTROL ARM 4 - LOWER CONTROL ARM 5 - LOWER BALL JOINT 6 - LOWER BALL JOINT NUT 7 - KNUCKLE
  7. Remove the upper ball joint nut (1).
  8. Separate the ball joint (1) from the knuckle (3) with puller 8677 (2).
  9. Install an hydraulic jack to support the lower control arm. 1 - UPPER BALL JOINT NUT 2 - UPPER BALL JOINT 3 - UPPER CONTROL ARM 4 - LOWER CONTROL ARM 5 - LOWER BALL JOINT 6 - LOWER BALL JOINT NUT 7 - KNUCKLE
  10. Remove the lower ball joint nut (6).
  11. Separate the ball joint (3) from the knuckle (1) with puller 8677 (2) and remove the knuckle (1).
  12. Remove the hub/bearing bolts (2) from the knuckle (1).
  13. Remove the hub/bearing from the steering knuckle (1). See «Front Suspension/Front/HUB AND BEARING - Removal»(ref-352625-S35488404082010010600000) .
  14. Remove the steering knuckle (1).

Scheme 22: INSTALLATION
CAUTIONThe ball joint stud tapers must be CLEAN and DRY before installing the knuckle. Clean the stud tapers with mineral spirits to remove dirt and grease.
  1. Install the hub/bearing to the steering knuckle and tighten the bolts (1) to 163 N.m (120 ft. lbs.). 1 - UPPER BALL JOINT NUT 2 - UPPER BALL JOINT 3 - UPPER CONTROL ARM 4 - LOWER CONTROL ARM 5 - LOWER BALL JOINT 6 - LOWER BALL JOINT NUT 7 - KNUCKLE
  2. Install the knuckle (7) onto the upper (2) and lower ball joints (5).
  3. Install the upper (1) ball joint nut. Tighten the nut to 95 N.m (70 ft. lbs.).
  4. Install the lower ball joint nut (6). Tighten the nut to 129 N.m (95 ft. lbs.).
  5. Remove the hydraulic jack from the lower control arm (4).
  6. Install the tie rod end (2) and tighten the nut (1) to 108 N.m (80 ft. lbs.).
  7. Install the front halfshaft (2) into the hub/bearing 4X4 only .
  8. Install the the halfshaft nut and tighten to 251 N.m (185 ft. lbs.) 4X4 only .
  9. Install the ABS wheel speed sensor if equipped. Refer to «Brakes/Electrical/SENSOR, Wheel Speed - Installation»(ref-352629-S38758426002010010600000) and brake shield, rotor and caliper. Refer to «Brakes/Hydraulic/Mechanical/ROTOR, Brake - Installation»(ref-352626-S10595474172010010600000) .
  10. Install the wheel and tire assembly. Refer to «Tires and Wheels/Wheels - Standard Procedure»(ref-352628-S00558107832010010600000) .
  11. Remove the support and lower the vehicle.
  12. Perform a wheel alignment. See «Front Suspension/Wheel Alignment - Standard Procedure»(ref-352625-S04716679742010010600000) .

Scheme 23: REMOVAL
  1. Raise and support the vehicle.
  2. Remove the lower nut (5).
  3. Remove the upper nut, retainers and grommets from the stabilizer bar (3).
  4. Remove the stabilizer link (1) from the vehicle.
  1. Install the stabilizer link (1) to the vehicle.
  2. Install the retainers, grommets and upper nut to the stabilizer bar (3) and Tighten to 23 N.m (17 ft. lbs.).
  3. Install the lower nut (5) and Tighten to 102 N.m (75 ft. lbs.).
  4. Remove the support and lower the vehicle.

Note. All suspension components should be tighten with the weight of the vehicle on them (curb height).

  1. Install the upper part of the shock (2) into the frame bracket.
  2. Install the upper shock module nuts (1). Tighten to 61 N.m (45 ft. lbs.).
  3. Install the lower part of the shock module (2) into the lower control arm shock bushing.
  4. Position shock module (2) to lower control (6). Install bolt (4) so head of bolt is facing rear of vehicle and hand start nut (3). Tighten the bolt (4) AND nut (3) to 210 N.m (155 ft. lbs.).
  5. Install the stabilizer link lower nut (5) to the lower control arm (6). Tighten the nut to 102 N.m (75 ft. lbs.). See «Front Suspension/Front/LINK, Stabilizer Bar - Installation»(ref-352625-S03256816872010010600000) .
  6. Insert ball joint (6) in steering knuckle (7) and tighten ball joint nut to 95 N.m (70 ft. lbs.).
  7. Reposition the wheel speed wire (5) into the retaining brackets (3).
  8. Install the caliper slide pin bolts (2). Tighten to 32 N.m (24 ft. lbs.)
  9. Remove the support from the lower control arm outboard end.
  10. Install the tire and wheel assembly. Refer to «Tires and Wheels/Wheels - Standard Procedure»(ref-352628-S00558107832010010600000) .
  11. Remove the support and lower the vehicle.

  1. Remove the shock. See «Front Suspension/Front/SHOCK ABSORBER, Suspension - Removal»(ref-352625-S36599502052010010600000) .
  2. Install the shock assembly in the Branick 7200® spring removal/installation tool or equivalent (1).
  3. Compress the spring (2).
  4. Position shock nut wrench 9362 (2), on shock shaft retaining nut. Next, insert 8 mm socket though Wrench onto hex located on end of shock shaft. While holding shock shaft from turning, remove nut from shock shaft using Wrench.
  5. Remove the upper shock nut.
  6. Remove the shock.
  7. Remove the shock upper mounting plate.
  8. Remove and inspect the upper and lower spring isolators.

  1. Install the lower isolator.
  2. Install the upper isolator.
  3. Position the shock into the coil spring.
  4. Install the upper shock mounting plate.
  5. Install shock nut wrench 9362 (2) (on end of a torque wrench), on shock shaft retaining nut. Next, insert 8 mm socket though Wrench onto hex located on end of shock shaft. While holding shock shaft from turning, tighten nut using Wrench to 45 N.m (33 ft. lbs.) torque.
  6. Install the shock upper mounting nut. 1 - SPRING COMPRESSOR 2 - SPRING
  7. Decompress the spring (2).
  8. Remove the shock assembly from the spring compressor tool (1) or equivalent.
  9. Install the shock assembly. See «Front Suspension/Front/SHOCK ABSORBER, Suspension - Installation»(ref-352625-S06261039222010010600000) .
  1. Remove the stabilizer link (1) upper nut and remove the retainers and grommets. See «Front Suspension/Front/LINK, Stabilizer Bar - Removal»(ref-352625-S32515934402010010600000) .
  2. Remove the stabilizer bar retainer bolts (2) also remove the retainers from the frame sway bar and remove the bar (3).
  3. If necessary, remove the bushings from the stabilizer bar.

Scheme 28: INSTALLATION
  1. If removed, install the bushings on the stabilizer bar.
  2. Position the stabilizer bar (1) on the frame crossmember brackets and install the bracket (3) and bolts (2) finger-tight. NOTE: Check the alignment of the bar to ensure there is no interference with the either frame rail or chassis component. Spacing should be equal on both sides.
  3. Install the stabilizer bar (1) to the stabilizer link and install the grommets and retainers.
  4. Install the nuts (6) to the stabilizer link and tighten to 23 N.m (17 ft. lbs.). See «Front Suspension/Front/LINK, Stabilizer Bar - Installation»(ref-352625-S03256816872010010600000) .
  5. Tighten the bracket bolts (2) to the frame to 61 N.m (45 ft. lbs.).
