TEST NTC-12: CHECKING IAC MOTOR OPERATION
- Start engine and allow engine to idle. Place scan tool in ACTUATOR TESTS mode and set idle air control motor to 1400 RPM for 10 seconds and note engine speed. Set idle air control motor to 900 RPM for 10 seconds and note engine speed. If engine speed is not within 100 RPM of set speed, go to next step. If engine speed is within 100 RPM of set speed, return engine to normal idle. Idle air control motor is operating properly. Test is complete.
- Turn ignition off. Disconnect idle air control motor connector. Idle air control motor is mounted on throttle body and contains a 4-pin connector. Inspect idle air control motor connector for corroded, pushed out, miswired or damaged terminals. If terminals are not corroded, pushed out, miswired or damaged, go to next step. If terminals are corroded, pushed out, miswired or damaged, repair connector as necessary. Perform «TEST VER-5»(ref-9379-S16183295292000102000000) .
- Ensure ignition is off and idle air control motor connector is still disconnected. Disconnect Powertrain Control Module (PCM) connectors. PCM is located at passenger's side front corner of engine compartment on inner fender panel. Using ohmmeter, check resistance between terminal No. 19 (Gray/Red wire) on PCM connector C1 and terminal No. 1 (Gray/Red wire) on idle air control motor connector. If resistance is less than 5 ohms, go to next step. If resistance is 5 ohms or more, repair short open Gray/Red wire between idle air control motor and PCM. Perform «TEST VER-5»(ref-9379-S16183295292000102000000) .
- Ensure ignition is off and idle air control motor connector is still disconnected. Reinstall PCM connectors. Start engine and allow to idle. Connect 12-volt test light to ground and probe each idle air control motor connector for 10 seconds. If test light flashes on and off at each terminal, replace PCM. Perform «TEST VER-5»(ref-9379-S16183295292000102000000) . If test light does not flash on and off at each terminal, go to next step.
- Ensure ignition is off and idle air control motor connector is still disconnected. Start engine and allow to idle. Connect 12-volt test light to battery voltage and probe each idle air control motor connector for 10 seconds. If test light flashes on and off at each terminal, replace idle air control motor. Perform «TEST VER-5»(ref-9379-S16183295292000102000000) . If test light does not flash on and off at each terminal, replace PCM. Perform «TEST VER-5»(ref-9379-S16183295292000102000000) .
TEST NTC-18: CHECKING RADIATOR FAN OPERATION
- Turn ignition on with engine off. Using scan tool, actuate radiator fan control relay. If radiator fan cycles on and off, test is complete. If radiator fan does not cycle on and off, go to next step.
- Using scan tool, actuate radiator fan control relay. Using test light, backprobe radiator fan connector Light Green wire. If test light blinks on and off, go to next step. If test light does not blink on and off, go to step 4.
- Turn ignition off. Disconnect radiator fan motor connector. Using ohmmeter, check resistance between ground and radiator fan motor connector Black wire. If resistance is less than 5 ohms, replace radiator fan motor. Perform «TEST VER-2»(ref-9379-S22462118962000102000000). If resistance is 5 ohms or more, repair open Black wire. Perform «TEST VER-2»(ref-9379-S22462118962000102000000).
- Turn ignition off. Disconnect radiator fan control relay. Radiator fan control relay is located in Power Distribution Center (PDC). see scheme 3 Using test light, check for voltage at radiator fan control relay cavity No. 30 (Red/Tan wire). If test light illuminates brightly, go to next step. If test light does not illuminate brightly, repair high resistance or open in Red/Tan wire between radiator fan control relay cavity and fuse No. 2 in PDC. Perform «TEST VER-2»(ref-9379-S22462118962000102000000).
- Disconnect radiator fan motor connector. Using ohmmeter, check resistance of Light Green wire between radiator fan motor connector and radiator fan control relay cavity No. 87. If resistance is less than 5 ohms, replace radiator fan relay. Perform «TEST VER-2»(ref-9379-S22462118962000102000000). If resistance is 5 ohms or more, repair open Light Green wire. Perform «TEST VER-2»(ref-9379-S22462118962000102000000).
