Engine Controls Self-Diagnostics: Adjustments Dodge Dakota II

TEST NTC-7: CHECKING ENGINE COOLANT TEMPERATURE (ECT) SENSOR CALIBRATION

  1. Start engine and allow engine to idle. Inspect wiring harness and connectors between ECT sensor and Powertrain Control Module (PCM). Inspect ECT sensor connector and PCM connectors for corroded, pushed out, miswired or damaged terminals. Also, check for related Technical Service Bulletins (TSBs). Wiggle wiring harness and connectors between PCM and ECT sensor while noting GOOD TRIP counter. On 2.5L, ECT sensor is located in thermostat housing and contains Black/Light Blue wire and Tan/Black wire in the connector. On 3.9L and 5.9L, ECT sensor is located near thermostat housing on intake manifold and contains Black/Light Blue wire and Tan/Black wire in the connector. PCM is located at passenger's side front corner of engine compartment on inner fender panel. If GOOD TRIP counter does not change to zero, go to next step. If GOOD TRIP counter changes to zero while wiggling wiring harness and connectors, repair wiring or connectors as necessary. Perform «TEST VER-5»(ref-9379-S16183295292000102000000) .
  2. Thermostat must be operating properly when performing this test procedure. Turn ignition on with engine off. Using scan tool in SENSORS mode, read ENG COOLANT TMP DEG. This is the engine coolant temperature value for ECT sensor. If engine coolant temperature is more than 180°F (82°C), allow engine to cool until engine coolant temperature is 150°F (66°C). Start engine and allow engine to idle. Using scan tool in SENSORS mode, read ENG COOLANT TMP DEG again while warming engine to normal operating temperature. The ENG COOLANT TMP DEG reading on scan tool should increase in a smooth transition as engine coolant temperature increases and temperature should become at least 180°F (82°C). If ENG COOLANT TMP DEG reading on scan tool increases in a smooth transition as engine coolant temperature increases and temperature becomes at least 180°F (82°C), shut engine off. Test is complete. If ENG COOLANT TMP DEG reading on scan tool does not increase in a smooth transition as engine coolant temperature increases or temperature does not become at least 180°F (82°C), shut engine off. Replace ECT sensor. Perform «TEST VER-5»(ref-9379-S16183295292000102000000) .

TEST NTC-14: CHECKING MANIFOLD ABSOLUTE PRESSURE (MAP) SENSOR CALIBRATION

  1. Ensure engine is off. Install vacuum "T" fitting and vacuum gauge at vacuum source on intake manifold. Start engine and allow engine to idle. If engine will not idle, maintain a constant RPM above idle.
  2. Note engine vacuum on vacuum gauge. Using scan tool, read MAP sensor vacuum. If MAP sensor vacuum is within one in. Hg of engine vacuum on vacuum gauge, MAP sensor is operating properly. Test is complete. If MAP sensor vacuum is not within one in. Hg of engine vacuum on vacuum gauge, replace MAP sensor. On 2.5L, 3.9L and 5.9L, MAP sensor is located on side of throttle body. (Схема №33)and (Схема №34). On 4.7L, MAP sensor is located on front of intake manifold. (Схема №35) Perform «TEST VER-5»(ref-9379-S16183295292000102000000).

TEST NTC-20: CHECKING THROTTLE POSITION (TP) SENSOR CALIBRATION

  1. Start engine. Using scan tool, monitor engine RPM while wiggling wiring harness and connectors at TP sensor. If engine RPM does not change while wiggling wiring harness and connectors, go to next step. If engine RPM changes while wiggling wiring harness and connectors, repair wiring or connector as necessary that caused TP sensor voltage to change. Perform «TEST VER-5»(ref-9379-S16183295292000102000000) .
  2. Shut engine off. Turn ignition on with engine off. Using scan tool, monitor TP sensor voltage while wiggling wiring harness and connectors at TP sensor. If TP sensor voltage does not change while wiggling wiring harness and connectors, go to next step. If TP sensor voltage changes while wiggling wiring harness and connectors, repair wiring or connector as necessary that caused TP sensor voltage to change. Perform «TEST VER-5»(ref-9379-S16183295292000102000000) .
  3. Turn ignition off. Inspect wiring harness and connectors between TP sensor and Powertrain Control Module (PCM). PCM is located at passenger's side front corner of engine compartment on inner fender panel. If no problems exist, go to next step. If any problems exist, repair wiring or connectors as necessary. Perform «TEST VER-5»(ref-9379-S16183295292000102000000) .
  4. Close throttle. Ensure throttle is fully closed and against the stop. Using scan tool, read TP sensor voltage with throttle fully closed. If TP sensor voltage is 1.1 volts or less with throttle fully closed, go to next step. If TP sensor voltage is more than 1.1 volts with throttle fully closed, check for binding throttle. If throttle is okay, replace TP sensor. Perform «TEST VER-5»(ref-9379-S16183295292000102000000) .
  5. Turn ignition on with engine off. Using scan tool, monitor TP sensor voltage while slowly moving throttle from closed position to fully open position. If TP sensor voltage changes smoothly, test is complete. If TP sensor voltage does not change smoothly, replace TP sensor. Perform «TEST VER-5»(ref-9379-S16183295292000102000000) .
