TEST TC-20A - TORQUE CONVERTER CLUTCH SOLENOID CIRCUIT (DTC 37)

Note. For circuit and connector terminal identification, see CONNECTOR IDENTIFICATION in this article. For wiring diagrams, see WIRING DIAGRAMS section.

  1. If vehicle is equipped with a manual transmission, this trouble code does not apply. If vehicle is not equipped with a manual transmission, erase trouble codes using DRB. Turn ignition off for 10 seconds. Turn ignition on.
  2. Using DRB, actuate Torque Converter Clutch (TCC) solenoid. Using DRB, read trouble codes. If DRB displays TORQUE CONVERTER CLUTCH SOLENOID CIRCUIT, go to step 6). If DRB does not display TORQUE CONVERTER CLUTCH SOLENOID CIRCUIT, condition required to set trouble code is not present at this time. Go to next step.
  3. The TORQUE CONVERTER CLUTCH SOLENOID CIRCUIT trouble code sets if TCC solenoid is open or shorted. Possible causes are: open or shorted TCC solenoid, open TCC solenoid Dark Blue wire, open or shorted TCC solenoid ground circuit or failed PCM. Go to next step.
  4. Inspect all related wiring and connectors and repair as necessary. Perform «TEST VER-2»(ref-10881-S18660743652000111000000) . If no problems were found with wiring and connectors, go to next step.
  5. Using DRB, read trouble codes. TCC actuation test should still be running. Wiggle wiring harness from TCC solenoid to PCM. If TORQUE CONVERTER CLUTCH SOLENOID CIRCUIT trouble code returned, repair wiring harness as necessary. Perform TEST VER-2. If TORQUE CONVERTER CLUTCH SOLENOID CIRCUIT trouble code did not return, see «INACTIVE TROUBLE CODE CONDITION»(ref-10881-S24382546472000111000000) in this article. Perform TEST VER-2.
  6. Turn ignition off. Disconnect TCC solenoid connector. Turn ignition on. Using DRB in voltmeter mode, check voltage on TCC solenoid connector Dark Blue wire. If voltage is less than 10 volts, repair open in Dark Blue wire. Perform TEST VER-2.
  7. If voltage is more than 10 volts, turn ignition off. Disconnect Powertrain Control Module (PCM) connector. Using an external ohmmeter, check resistance of Orange/Black wire between TCC solenoid connector and PCM connector terminal No. 54. If resistance is more than 5 ohms, repair open in appropriate wire. Perform TEST VER-2.
  8. If resistance is less than 5 ohms, put DRB in ohmmeter mode. Using DRB, check resistance of Orange/Black wire at PCM connector terminal No. 54. If resistance is less than 5 ohms, repair short to ground in appropriate wire. Perform TEST VER-2.
  9. If resistance is more than 5 ohms, reconnect TCC solenoid connector. Turn ignition on. Using DRB in voltmeter mode, check voltage on PCM connector terminal No. 54 Orange/Black wire. If voltage is less than 10 volts, replace TCC solenoid. Perform TEST VER-2. If voltage is more than 10 volts, replace PCM. Perform TEST VER-2.
