TRANSAXLE APPLICATIONS

CAUTIONWhen battery is disconnected, vehicle computer may lose memory data. Driveability problems may exist until computer systems have completed a relearn cycle. See the COMPUTER RELEARN PROCEDURES article in the GENERAL INFORMATION section before disconnecting battery.
  1. Raise and support vehicle. Remove front wheels. Remove passenger's side axle shaft. See the AXLE SHAFT article in DRIVE AXLES section.
  2. Place reference mark on drive shaft flanges. Remove bolts and disconnect drive shaft from drive shaft flange on PTU. Support drive shaft.
  3. Remove large cradle plate located below PTU. Remove PTU mounting bracket bolts at rear of PTU. PTU mounting bracket is located on driver's side of PTU, near drive shaft flange.
  4. Remove outboard support bracket located near right axle shaft area on PTU. Remove PTU-to-transaxle bolts. Remove PTU.

To install, reverse removal procedure. Ensure PTU fluid level is correct. See the TRANSMISSION SERVICING - A/T article.
