Note. Inspect oil drain hole and plug threads for leaks or damage. After oil pan is removed, use a straightedge to inspect sealing surface flange for flatness. Oil pan must be replaced if it cannot be repaired.
Caravan/Mini Ram Van, Dakota, Voyager
Remove negative battery cable. Remove starter assembly. Remove front motor mount bolts. Raise and support vehicle. Drain engine oil. Raise engine and support with blocks between crossmember and mounts. Remove oil pan retaining bolts and separate pan from engine. Before installation, apply RTV sealer to corners of rubber seal and cork gasket.

2WD Models
- Disconnect negative battery cable. Remove engine oil dipstick. Disconnect distributor cap and position cap away from cowl. Raise and support vehicle. Drain engine oil.
- Remove exhaust crossover pipe. Remove engine mount bolts. Raise engine off engine mounts. When engine is off engine mounts enough, place bolts in engine attaching points on engine frame brackets.
- Lower engine so that bottom of engine mounts are resting on bolts placed in engine mount frame brackets. Remove oil pan retaining bolts and separate oil pan from engine.
- Before installation, apply RTV sealer at chain case cover to block parting line. Apply RTV sealer to corners of rubber seal and cork gasket.
4WD Models
- Disconnect negative battery cable. Remove engine oil dipstick. Raise and support vehicle. Drain engine oil. Remove front drive axles. For information on removal and installation procedures see Drive Axles section.
- Remove exhaust crossover pipe. Remove lower transmission cover. Remove oil pan retaining bolts and separate oil pan from engine. Before installation, apply RTV sealer at chain case cover to block parting line. Apply RTV sealer to corners of rubber seal and cork gasket.
