Engine Oil Pan Removal - 4-cyl Dodge Caravan I

Note. Inspect oil drain hole and plug threads for leaks or damage. After oil pan is removed, use a straightedge to inspect sealing surface flange for flatness. Oil pan must be replaced if it cannot be repaired.

2.2L (EXCEPT DAKOTA) & 2.5L

Disconnect negative battery cable. Drain engine oil. Remove oil pan retaining bolts. Remove oil pan and clean all gasket surfaces. Inspect sealing surface and straighten if necessary. When installing, use new end gaskets. Form rail gaskets with 1/8" diameter bead of RTV sealer.

2.2L (DAKOTA)

  1. Disconnect negative battery cable. Remove left engine mount bolt. Raise left side of engine. Disconnect air pump relief valve rubber hose. Raise and support vehicle. Drain engine oil.
  2. Remove clutch housing-to-block strut. Remove lower housing cover. Remove lower radiator hose support bracket. Loosen transmission-to-crossmember mounting bracket.
  3. Raise engine on left side approximately 2". Remove oil pan retaining bolts. Remove oil pan and clean all gasket surfaces. Apply RTV sealer to pan rail, ends of oil pan seals, at junction of end seal, seal retainer and cylinder block.

2.6L

Drain oil and remove oil pan bolts. Separate pan from engine. Remove old gasket and discard. Clean pan thoroughly and inspect for damage. Use new gasket when installing pan.
