VALVE CLEARANCE

Valve clearance must be adjusted with engine temperature less than 140°F (60°C). For valve clearance adjusting procedure, see ADJUSTMENTS DIESEL article in the ENGINE PERFORMANCE section.

ProcedureCylinder Numbers
Step 1 (2)
Exhaust Valves1, 3 & 5
Intake Valves1, 2 & 4
Step 2 (3)
Exhaust Valves2, 4 & 6
Intake Valves3, 5 & 6
(1) Adjust valves with engine temperature less than 140°F (60°C). (2) Adjust with timing pin engaged and No. 1 cylinder at TDC. (3) Engine rotated 360 degrees from TDC of No. 1 cylinder and reference marks aligned.
