Removing

WarningRespect the safety and cleanliness recommendations that are specific to high pressure diesel injection (HDi) engines

Place the vehicle on a 2-post lift

Disconnect the battery negative terminal

Remove

  • The battery (1)
  • The battery support (7)
  • The 2 nuts (3) from the support (6) of the power steering reservoir (2)
  • The 2 bolts (5) from the support (6) of the power steering reservoir (2)
  • The engine cover (4)

Release and move aside the electrical harness (at "a")

Move the power steering reservoir (2) and its support (6) aside

Slacken the clip (9)

Detach and move aside: the air hose (8)

Disconnect the connector (en "b")

Remove the bolt (10)

Remove

  • The 4 support (11) bolts (12)
  • The support (11)

Unscrew - remove the 2 camshaft main bearing cap casing plugs (13)

Raise the vehicle

Remove

  • The protective panel under the engine
  • The auxiliary equipment drive belt

Remove

  • The 4 ancillary drive pulley (16) bolts (17)
  • The ancillary drive pulley (16)
  • The roller tensioner (19) bolt (18)
  • The roller tensioner (18)
  • The bolt (15) securing the roller (14)
  • The tensioning roller (14)

WarningSupport the engine-gearbox assembly; with a trolley jack and a block

Support the engine-gearbox assembly; with a trolley jack and a block

Remove

  • The 2 bolts (20)
  • The 4 nuts (22)
  • The engine mounting assembly (21)

Remove

  • The 9 bolts (23)
  • The timing cover (24)

Refit: the engine mounting assembly (21)

Unscrew and remove: the cap (25)

Checking

WarningThe timing must be set with no stress. if this is not the case, repeat the timing belt setting operations

WarningIf the timing belt has covered more than 25000 kilometres, replace it

Visual check

WarningCarry out the checks below

Check that the timing belt is free of cracks and traces of oil

Check the absence of oil leaks (crankshaft and camshaft sealing rings)

Check the absence of coolant fluid leaks (coolant pump)

Replace any defective parts

Checking the valve timing

WarningNever turn back

Turn the crankshaft clockwise until the hole for the pin "c" in the camshaft fully (26) and the hole for the pin in the cover "d" are visually aligned

Fit the tool [0191-2B] (at "e")

Fit the tool [0191-2A] (at "f")

NoteThe tools [0191-2A] and [0191-2B] must be screwed in respectively (at "e", "f")

Pin the camshaft pulley (26); using tool [0191-3A]

WarningIf it is impossible to peg the camshaft, check that the offset between the camshaft pulley hole and the pegging hole is not greater than 1 mm; if this is not the case, repeat the cambelt fitting procedure

Refitting

WarningAdhere to the tightening torques

Tightening torques

  • Engine
  • Engine suspension

Remove the tools [0191-2A], [0191-3A], [0191-2B]

Refit the plug (25)

Support the engine-gearbox assembly; with a trolley jack and a block

Remove: the engine mounting assembly (21)

Refit

  • The timing cover (24)
  • The 9 bolts (23)
  • The engine mounting assembly (21)
  • The 4 nuts (22)
  • The 2 bolts (20)
  • The tensioning roller (14)
  • The bolt (15) securing the roller (14)
  • The roller tensioner (18)
  • The roller tensioner (19) bolt (18)
  • The ancillary drive pulley (16)
  • The 4 ancillary drive pulley (16) bolts (17)
  • The auxiliary equipment drive belt
  • The protective panel under the engine
  • The 2 plugs (13) of the camshaft bearing cap cover
  • The support (11)
  • The 4 support (11) bolts (12)
  • The (10) bolt

Connect the connector (at "b")

Couple up: the air hose (8)

Tighten the clip (9)

Clip the electrical harness (at "a")

Refit

  • The engine cover (4)
  • The power steering reservoir (2) with its bracket (6)
  • The 2 nuts (3) from the support (6) of the power steering reservoir (2)
  • The 2 bolts (5) from the support (6) of the power steering reservoir (2)
  • The battery support (7)
  • The battery (1)

WarningPerform the operations to be carried out following reconnection of the battery

Reconnect the battery
