REMOVAL & INSTALLATION
| WARNING | On models with Supplemental Restraint System (SRS), observe the following precautions. Before any repairs are performed, disconnect and isolate battery ground cable. Failure to do so could result in accidental deployment of the air bag and possible personal injury. |
| CAUTION | When battery is disconnected, vehicle computer and memory systems may lose memory data. Driveability problems may exist until computer systems have completed a relearn cycle. See COMPUTER RELEARN PROCEDURES article in GENERAL INFORMATION before disconnecting battery. |
Remove wiring harness connectors from solenoid control module. (Scheme 9) Depress 2 locking tabs on bottom of control module and rotate control module upward, until retaining tabs can be removed from steering gear end cap. (Scheme 10) To install, reverse removal procedure.

Removal
Remove electrical connector to solenoid control valve at control valve. Remove P/S pressure hose from steering gear. (Scheme 11) Remove P/S return hose from steering gear. (Scheme 12) Using a1 5/16" crow foot wrench, loosen and remove solenoid control valve from steering gear. (Scheme 13)

Installation
- Inspect "O" ring seals on control valve to ensure they are not damaged. If damaged, replace with NEW "O" rings. Moisten "O" rings with clean power steering fluid. Install solenoid control valve into steering gear, by hand, until solenoid is fully seated. Using 1 5/16" crow foot wrench, tighten solenoid to 124 INCH lbs. (14 N.m).
- Route wiring harness from solenoid control valve under power steering lines and around front of steering gear. Connect wiring harness connector from solenoid control valve onto solenoid control module, ensuring connector seal is in good condition. Road test vehicle or test using DRB scan tool.
