REMOVAL - 3.2L & 3.5L
| WARNING | DO NOT REMOVE PRESSURE CAP WITH THE SYSTEM HOT AND UNDER PRESSURE BECAUSE SERIOUS BURNS FROM COOLANT CAN OCCUR. |
Scheme 2
- Disconnect negative cable from remote jumper terminal.
- Drain cooling system.
- Raise vehicle on hoist.
- Disconnect electrical connectors from engine oil and power steering pressure switches.
- Disconnect radiator and heater hoses from thermostat housing.
- Remove thermostat housing bolts. 1 - THERMOSTAT HOUSING/COOLANT INLET 2 - THERMOSTAT 3 - GASKET
- Remove housing, thermostat, and gasket. (Scheme 2)
INSTALLATION - 2.7L
- Clean gasket sealing surfaces.
- Install thermostat and gasket into the thermostat housing.
- Install thermostat and housing to cylinder block. Tighten attaching bolts to 12 N.m (105 in. lbs.).
- Connect the heater return and radiator lower hoses to the thermostat housing. Install hose clamps.
- Install the heater hose tube bracket bolt.
- Install the transaxle dipstick tube bracket attaching bolt.
- Install the generator support strut.
- Connect the generator electrical connector.
- Install the left engine mount.
- Lower vehicle.
- Inspect and replace dipstick O-ring as necessary. Install the engine oil dipstick and tube.
- Refill cooling system.
- Connect negative cable to remote jumper terminal.
INSTALLATION - 3.2L & 3.5L
- Clean gasket sealing surfaces.
- Install thermostat and gasket into thermostat housing. For ease of installation, install bolts in housing for thermostat and gasket retention.
- Install thermostat and housing to cylinder block. Tighten bolts to 12 N.m (105 in. lbs.).
- Connect heater and radiator hoses and install hose clamps.
- Connect electrical connectors to engine oil and power steering pressure switches.
- Lower vehicle and connect negative cable to remote jumper terminal.
- Refill cooling system .
- Connect negative cable to remote jumper terminal.
REMOVAL
Note. It is not necessary to discharge air conditioning system when removing the radiator.
Scheme 3
- Disconnect negative cable from remote jumper terminal.
- Drain cooling system.
- Remove radiator upper crossmember.
- Remove upper and lower coolant hoses from the radiator.
- Disconnect transmission hoses from cooler and plug.
- Disconnect engine oil cooler lines (if equipped).
- Disconnect the radiator fan electrical connector.
- Remove radiator fan. 1 - ELECTRICAL CONNECTOR 2 - FASTENERS 3- CLIPS
- Remove the air conditioning condenser attaching screws located at the front of the radiator. see scheme 4or see scheme 5. 1 - TRANS COOLER LINE BRACKET SCREW 2 - SCREW - CONDENSER TO RADIATOR 3- TRANS COOLER 4- SCREWS 1 - TRANSMISSION OIL COOLER LINE MOUNTING BRACKET 2 - A/C CONDENSER TO RADIATOR MOUNTING SCREWS
- Remove fastener attaching transmission cooler line bracket to left side of radiator.
- Lift condenser upward enough to disengage upper mounting clips. Allow condenser to rest on lower radiator crossmember. It is not necessary to discharge the air conditioning system.
- Radiator can now be lifted from engine compartment. Care should be taken not to damage radiator cooling fins or water tubes during removal.
INSTALLATION
- Position radiator into engine compartment. Seat the radiator assembly lower rubber isolators into the mounting holes in radiator lower support.
- Attach air conditioning condenser to mounting clips on radiator. Install mounting screws and tighten to 5 N.m (45 in. lbs.).
- Install the radiator lower hose and clamp.
- Install the transmission cooler line bracket and attaching fastener. see scheme 4or see scheme 5. Connect transmission hoses and tighten hose clamps to 3 N.m (28 in. lbs.).
- Install the radiator fan.
- Connect radiator fan motor electrical connector.
- Connect engine oil cooler lines (if equipped). Torque lines to 18 N.m (160 in. lbs.).
- Install the radiator upper hose. Align hose so it does not interfere with the accessory drive belt or engine. Position hose clamp so it will not interfere with the hood.
- Install the radiator upper support crossmember.
- Connect negative cable to remote jumper terminal.
- Fill cooling system with coolant.
- Operate engine until it reaches normal operating temperature. Check cooling system and automatic transmission for correct fluid levels.
