Bumper System: Removal & Installation Chevrolet Uplander I

Removal Procedure

  1. Raise and support the vehicle. Refer to «Lifting and Jacking the Vehicle»(ref-241684-S36257494482006081100000) in General Information.
  2. Remove both of the front tires and wheels. Refer to «Tire and Wheel Removal and Installation»(ref-241703-S14581567662006081100000) in Tires and Wheels.
  3. Remove the right and left front fender liner. Refer to «Wheelhouse Liner Replacement - Front»(ref-241699-S18568318592006081100000) in Body Front End.
  4. Disconnect both daytime running lamps (DRL). Refer to «Daytime Running Lamp, Park and Turn Signal Lamp and Bulb Replacement - Front»(ref-241674-S28633805852006081100000) in Lighting Systems.
  5. Use the J 38778 to remove the push-in retainers (3) from the upper front bumper fascia.
  6. Loosen the 2 hidden fasteners from the upper rear corners of the front fascia.
  7. Remove the front bumper fascia from the vehicle.
  8. Remove the DRL lamps from the fascia.
  9. Remove the 4 screws from the lower fascia.
  10. Remove the impact bar energy absorber.

Installation Procedure

  1. Install the DRL lamps to the fascia, connect the wiring as fascia is put on the vehicle.
  2. Position the energy absorber to the lower fascia.
  3. Install the screws in order to secure the energy absorber to the lower fascia.
  4. Align the front bumper fascia (1) to the front impact bar and to the body.
  5. Install the push-in retainers (3) to the upper front bumper fascia.
  6. Secure both rear upper corner fascia fasteners. Tighten: Tighten the fasteners to 3 N.m (27 lb in).
  7. Install both front headlamps. Refer to «Headlamp Assembly or Headlamp Bulb Replacement»(ref-241674-S37527177542006081100000) in Lighting Systems.
  8. Install the right and left front fender liner. Refer to «Wheelhouse Liner Replacement - Front»(ref-241699-S18568318592006081100000) in Body Front End.
  9. Install both of the front tires and wheels. Refer to «Tire and Wheel Removal and Installation»(ref-241703-S14581567662006081100000) in Tires and Wheels.
  10. Lower the vehicle.
  1. Raise and support the vehicle. Refer to «Lifting and Jacking the Vehicle»(ref-241684-S36257494482006081100000) in General Information.
  2. Remove both of the front tires and wheels. Refer to «Tire and Wheel Removal and Installation»(ref-241703-S14581567662006081100000) in Tires and Wheels.
  3. Remove the right and left front fender liner. Refer to «Wheelhouse Liner Replacement - Front»(ref-241699-S18568318592006081100000) in Body Front End.
  4. Disconnect both daytime running lamps (DRL). Refer to «Daytime Running Lamp, Park and Turn Signal Lamp and Bulb Replacement - Front»(ref-241674-S28633805852006081100000) in Lighting Systems.
  5. Use the J 38778 to remove the push-in retainers (2) from the upper front bumper fascia.
  6. Loosen the 2 hidden fasteners from the upper rear corners of the front fascia.
  7. Remove the front bumper fascia from the vehicle.
  8. Remove the DRL lamps from the fascia.
  9. Remove the screws securing the energy absorber to the lower fascia.
  10. Remove the impact bar energy absorber from the lower fascia.
  1. Install the DRL lamps to the fascia, connect the wiring as fascia is put on the vehicle.
  2. Position the energy absorber to the lower fascia.
  3. Install the screws in order to secure the energy absorber to the lower fascia.
  4. Align the front bumper fascia (1) to the front impact bar and to the body.
  5. Install the push-in retainers (3) to the upper front bumper fascia.
  6. Secure both rear upper corner fascia fasteners. Tighten: Tighten the fasteners to 3 N.m (27 lb in).
  7. Install both front headlamps. Refer to «Headlamp Assembly or Headlamp Bulb Replacement»(ref-241674-S37527177542006081100000) in Lighting Systems.
  8. Install the right and left front fender liner. Refer to «Wheelhouse Liner Replacement - Front»(ref-241699-S18568318592006081100000) in Body Front End.
  9. Install both of the front tires and wheels. Refer to «Tire and Wheel Removal and Installation»(ref-241703-S14581567662006081100000) in Tires and Wheels.
  10. Lower the vehicle.

  2. Remove both of the front tires and wheels. Refer to «Tire and Wheel Removal and Installation»(ref-241703-S14581567662006081100000) in Tires and Wheels.
  3. Remove the right and left front fender liner. Refer to «Wheelhouse Liner Replacement - Front»(ref-241699-S18568318592006081100000) in Body Front End.
  4. Disconnect both daytime running lamps (DRL). Refer to «Daytime Running Lamp, Park and Turn Signal Lamp and Bulb Replacement - Front»(ref-241674-S28633805852006081100000) in Lighting Systems.
  5. Use the J 38778 to remove the push-in retainers (1) from the upper front bumper fascia.
  6. Loosen the 2 hidden fasteners from the upper rear corners of the front fascia.
  7. Remove the front bumper fascia from the vehicle.
  8. Remove the DRL lamps from the fascia.
  9. Remove the screws (4) securing the energy absorber to the lower fascia (3).
  10. Remove the energy absorber (5) from the lower fascia.
  1. Install the DRL lamps to the fascia, connect the wiring as fascia is put on the vehicle
  2. Position the energy absorber (5) to the lower fascia (3).
  3. Install the screws (4) in order to secure the energy absorber to the lower fascia.
  4. Align the front bumper fascia (2) to the front impact bar and to the body.
  5. Install the push-in retainers (1) to the upper front bumper fascia.
  6. Secure both rear upper corner fascia fasteners. Tighten: Tighten the fasteners to 3 N.m (27 lb in).
  7. Install both front headlamps. Refer to «Headlamp Assembly or Headlamp Bulb Replacement»(ref-241674-S37527177542006081100000) in Lighting Systems.

  10. Lower the vehicle.

Fascia Grille Replacement (Pontiac)

  1. Remove the front bumper fascia (1). Refer to «Fascia Replacement - Front Bumper (Buick)»(ref-241697-S30871199292006081100000) , «Fascia Replacement - Front Bumper (Chevrolet)»(ref-241697-S28302727002006081100000) or «Fascia Replacement - Front Bumper (Pontiac)»(ref-241697-S20485481272006081100000) .
  2. Remove the front impact bar bolts (3) from the rail (2).
  3. Remove the front impact bar (1) from the frame rail.
  1. Align the front impact bar to the frame rail.
  2. Position the left front horn to the frame rail and impact bar.
  3. Install the front impact bar bolts to the frame rail. Tighten: Tighten the bolts to 50 N.m (37 lb ft).
  4. Install the front bumper fascia (1). Refer to «Fascia Replacement - Front Bumper (Buick)»(ref-241697-S30871199292006081100000) , «Fascia Replacement - Front Bumper (Chevrolet)»(ref-241697-S28302727002006081100000) or «Fascia Replacement - Front Bumper (Pontiac)»(ref-241697-S20485481272006081100000) .
  1. Remove the front bumper fascia (1). Refer to «Fascia Replacement - Front Bumper (Buick)»(ref-241697-S30871199292006081100000) , «Fascia Replacement - Front Bumper (Chevrolet)»(ref-241697-S28302727002006081100000) or «Fascia Replacement - Front Bumper (Pontiac)»(ref-241697-S20485481272006081100000) .
  2. Remove the front impact bar bolts (3) from the rail (2).
  3. Remove the front impact bar (1) from the frame rail.
  1. Align the front impact bar to the frame rail.
  2. Position the left front horn to the frame rail and impact bar.
  3. Install the front impact bar bolts to the frame rail. Tighten: Tighten the bolts to 50 N.m (37 lb ft).
  4. Install the front bumper fascia (1). Refer to «Fascia Replacement - Front Bumper (Buick)»(ref-241697-S30871199292006081100000) , «Fascia Replacement - Front Bumper (Chevrolet)»(ref-241697-S28302727002006081100000) or «Fascia Replacement - Front Bumper (Pontiac)»(ref-241697-S20485481272006081100000) .
  1. Remove the front bumper fascia. Refer to «Fascia Replacement - Front Bumper (Buick)»(ref-241697-S30871199292006081100000) , «Fascia Replacement - Front Bumper (Chevrolet)»(ref-241697-S28302727002006081100000) or «Fascia Replacement - Front Bumper (Pontiac)»(ref-241697-S20485481272006081100000) .
  2. Remove the front impact bar bolts (3) from the rail (2).
  3. Remove the front impact bar (1) from the frame rail.

  2. Position the left front horn to the frame rail and impact bar.
  3. Install the front impact bar bolts (3) to the frame rail. Tighten: Tighten the bolts to 50 N.m (37 lb ft).
  4. Install the front bumper fascia.   1. Remove the front bumper fascia (2). Refer to «Fascia Replacement - Front Bumper (Buick)»(ref-241697-S30871199292006081100000) , «Fascia Replacement - Front Bumper (Chevrolet)»(ref-241697-S28302727002006081100000) or «Fascia Replacement - Front Bumper (Pontiac)»(ref-241697-S20485481272006081100000) .
  2. Remover the screws (4) securing the energy absorber to the lower fascia.
  3. Remove the energy absorber from the lower fascia.
  1. Position the energy absorber to the lower fascia.
  2. Install NEW screws (4) in order to secure the energy absorber to the lower fascia.
  3. Position the front bumper fascia to the vehicle.
  4. Install the front bumper fascia. Refer to «Fascia Replacement - Front Bumper (Buick)»(ref-241697-S30871199292006081100000) , «Fascia Replacement - Front Bumper (Chevrolet)»(ref-241697-S28302727002006081100000) or «Fascia Replacement - Front Bumper (Pontiac)»(ref-241697-S20485481272006081100000) .
  1. Remove the front bumper fascia. Refer to «Fascia Replacement - Front Bumper (Buick)»(ref-241697-S30871199292006081100000) , «Fascia Replacement - Front Bumper (Chevrolet)»(ref-241697-S28302727002006081100000) or «Fascia Replacement - Front Bumper (Pontiac)»(ref-241697-S20485481272006081100000) .
  2. Remove the screws (4) securing the energy absorber to the lower fascia (3).
  3. Remove the energy absorber.
  1. Position the energy absorber to the lower fascia (3).
  2. Install the screws (4) in order to secure the energy absorber to the lower fascia.
  3. Position the front fascia to the vehicle.
  4. Install the front bumper fascia. Refer to «Fascia Replacement - Front Bumper (Buick)»(ref-241697-S30871199292006081100000) , «Fascia Replacement - Front Bumper (Chevrolet)»(ref-241697-S28302727002006081100000) or «Fascia Replacement - Front Bumper (Pontiac)»(ref-241697-S20485481272006081100000) .
  1. Remove the front bumper fascia. Refer to «Fascia Replacement - Front Bumper (Buick)»(ref-241697-S30871199292006081100000) , «Fascia Replacement - Front Bumper (Chevrolet)»(ref-241697-S28302727002006081100000) or «Fascia Replacement - Front Bumper (Pontiac)»(ref-241697-S20485481272006081100000) .
  2. Remove the screws (4) securing the energy absorber (5) to the lower fascia (3).
  3. Remove the energy absorber.
  1. Position the energy absorber (5) to the lower fascia (3).
  2. Install the screws (4) in order to secure the energy absorber to the lower fascia (3).
  3. Position the fascia assembly to the vehicle.
  4. Install the front bumper fascia. Refer to «Fascia Replacement - Front Bumper (Buick)»(ref-241697-S30871199292006081100000) , «Fascia Replacement - Front Bumper (Chevrolet)»(ref-241697-S28302727002006081100000) or «Fascia Replacement - Front Bumper (Pontiac)»(ref-241697-S20485481272006081100000) .
  1. Open the liftgate.
  2. Disconnect the electrical connection (1) for the rear object sensor harness, if equipped.
  3. Use the J 38778 in order to remove the push-in retainers (3) from the upper and lower rear bumper fascia.
  4. Remove the screws (5) at the right and left wheel well from the rear bumper fascia.
  5. Remove the palnut from the rear bumper fascia outer retainer.
  6. Remove the rear bumper fascia (2) from the vehicle.
  7. Remove the rear parking assist (RPA) sensors, if equipped. Refer to «Rear Object Sensor Replacement»(ref-241696-S20780836262006081100000) in Rear Parking Assist.
  8. Transfer the rear object sensors to the new rear bumper fascia, if equipped.
  1. Install the RPA sensor to the rear bumper fascia, if equipped. Refer to «Rear Object Sensor Replacement»(ref-241696-S20780836262006081100000) in Rear Park Assist.
  2. Align the rear bumper fascia (2) to the rear bumper fascia outer support.
  3. Align the rear bumper fascia outer retainer (4) to the body.
  4. Install the palnut to the rear bumper fascia outer retainer. Tighten: Tighten the palnut to 2 N.m (18 lb in).
  5. Install the push-in retainers (3) to the upper and lower rear bumper fascia.
  6. Install the screws (5) at the right and left wheel well to the rear bumper fascia. Tighten: Tighten the rear bumper fascia wheel well screws to 3 N.m (26 lb in).
  7. Connect the electrical connection (1) to the rear object sensor harness, if equipped.
  8. Close the liftgate.
  1. Open the liftgate.
  2. Disconnect the electrical connection (1) for the rear object sensor harness, if equipped.
  3. Use the J 38778 in order to remove the push-in retainers (3) from the upper rear bumper fascia.
  4. Remove the screws (5) at the right and left wheel well from the rear bumper fascia.
  5. Remove the palnut from the rear bumper fascia outer retainer.
  6. Remove the rear bumper fascia (2) from the vehicle.
  7. Remove the rear parking assist (RPA) sensors, if equipped. Refer to «Rear Object Sensor Replacement»(ref-241696-S20780836262006081100000) in Rear Parking Assist.
  8. Transfer the rear object sensors to the new rear bumper fascia, if equipped.
  1. Install the RPA sensor to the rear bumper fascia, if equipped. Refer to «Rear Object Sensor Replacement»(ref-241696-S20780836262006081100000) in Rear Park Assist.
  2. Align the rear bumper fascia (2) to the rear bumper fascia outer support.
  3. Align the rear bumper fascia outer retainer (4) to the body.
  4. Install the palnut to the rear bumper fascia outer retainer. Tighten: Tighten the palnut to 2 N.m (18 lb in).
  5. Install the push-in retainers (3) to the upper rear bumper fascia.
  6. Install the screws (5) at the right and left wheel well to the rear bumper fascia. Tighten: Tighten the rear bumper fascia wheel well screws to 3 N.m (26 lb in).
  7. Connect the electrical connection (1) to the rear object sensor harness, if equipped.
  8. Close the liftgate.
  1. Open the liftgate.
  2. Disconnect the electrical connection (1) for the rear object sensor harness, if equipped.
  3. Use the J 38778 in order to remove the push-in retainers (3) from the upper and lower (6) rear bumper fascia.
  4. Remove the screws (5) at the right and left wheel well from the rear bumper fascia.
  5. Remove the palnut from the rear bumper fascia outer retainer.
  6. Remove the rear bumper fascia (2) from the vehicle.
  7. Remove the rear parking assist (RPA) sensors, if equipped. Refer to «Rear Object Sensor Replacement»(ref-241696-S20780836262006081100000) in Rear Parking Assist.
  8. Transfer the rear object sensors to the new rear bumper fascia, if equipped.
  1. Install the RPA sensor to the rear bumper fascia, if equipped. Refer to «Rear Object Sensor Replacement»(ref-241696-S20780836262006081100000) in Rear Park Assist.
  2. Align the rear bumper fascia (2) to the rear bumper fascia outer support.
  3. Align the rear bumper fascia outer retainer (4) to the body.
  4. Install the palnut to the rear bumper fascia outer retainer. Tighten: Tighten the palnut to 2 N.m (18 lb in).
  5. Install the push-in retainers (3) to the upper and lower (6) rear bumper fascia.
  6. Install the screws (5) at the right and left wheel well to the rear bumper fascia. Tighten: Tighten the rear bumper fascia wheel well screws to 3 N.m (26 lb in).
  7. Connect the electrical connection (1) to the rear object sensor harness, if equipped.
  8. Close the liftgate.

4Upper Molding, Rear Bumper Fascia Tip: Release the integral clips from inside the upper molding and push outward. Pull forward edge of molding outward and then push rearward in order to remove.

Molding Replacement - Rear Bumper Fascia Upper

  1. Use J 38778 in order to remove the push-in retainer from the lower rear bumper fascia splash shield.
  2. Remove the rear bumper fascia splash shield screws from the rear bumper fascia splash shield.
  3. Remove the rear bumper fascia splash shield from the rear bumper fascia.
  1. Align the rear bumper fascia splash shield to the rear bumper fascia.
  2. Install the rear bumper fascia splash shield screws to the rear bumper fascia splash shield. Tighten: Tighten the rear bumper fascia splash shield screws to 2 N.m (18 lb in).
  3. Install the push-in the retainer to the lower rear bumper fascia splash shield.
  1. Remove the rear bumper fascia. Refer to «Fascia Replacement - Rear Bumper (Pontiac)»(ref-241697-S04801415952006081100000) , «Fascia Replacement - Rear Bumper (Buick)»(ref-241697-S00233165312006081100000) or «Fascia Replacement - Rear Bumper (Chevrolet)»(ref-241697-S18549694232006081100000) .
  2. Disconnect the rear object sensor wiring harness from the rear energy absorber, if equipped.
  3. Remove the energy absorber from the fascia by releasing the tabs on the fascia.
  1. Position the energy absorber to the rear bumper fascia and snap in place.
  2. Position the rear fascia to the impact bar.
  3. Connect the rear object sensor wiring harness to the rear energy absorber, if equipped.
  4. Install the rear bumper fascia. Refer to «Fascia Replacement - Rear Bumper (Pontiac)»(ref-241697-S04801415952006081100000) , «Fascia Replacement - Rear Bumper (Buick)»(ref-241697-S00233165312006081100000) or «Fascia Replacement - Rear Bumper (Chevrolet)»(ref-241697-S18549694232006081100000) .
  1. Remove the rear bumper fascia. Refer to «Fascia Replacement - Rear Bumper (Pontiac)»(ref-241697-S04801415952006081100000) , «Fascia Replacement - Rear Bumper (Buick)»(ref-241697-S00233165312006081100000) or «Fascia Replacement - Rear Bumper (Chevrolet)»(ref-241697-S18549694232006081100000) .
  2. Remove the impact bar bolts from the frame rail.
  3. Remove the rear impact bar from the frame rail.
  1. Align the rear impact bar to the frame rail.
  2. Install the rear impact bar bolts to the frame rail. Tighten: Tighten the bolts to 50 N.m (37 lb ft).
  3. Install the rear bumper fascia. Refer to «Fascia Replacement - Rear Bumper (Pontiac)»(ref-241697-S04801415952006081100000) , «Fascia Replacement - Rear Bumper (Buick)»(ref-241697-S00233165312006081100000) or «Fascia Replacement - Rear Bumper (Chevrolet)»(ref-241697-S18549694232006081100000) .
