Heater System - Tracker: Removal & Installation Chevrolet Tracker II

REMOVAL & INSTALLATION

WARNINGTo avoid injury from accidental air bag deployment, read and carefully follow all SERVICE PRECAUTIONS and DISABLING & ACTIVATING AIR BAG SYSTEM procedures in AIR BAG SYSTEM SAFETY article in GENERAL SERVICING.
  1. Disconnect negative battery cable. Remove 2 glove box hinge pins and glove box. Disconnect blower motor and blower motor resistor electrical connectors. Disconnect electrical connectors and relay bracket from blower motor case.
  2. Disconnect fresh/recirculated air control cable from blower motor case. Disconnect wiring harness from guide brackets on blower motor case. Remove attaching bolts and nut from blower motor case. Remove blower motor case from vehicle.
  3. Disconnect air hose between blower motor and blower motor case. Remove blower motor from blower case. Remove nut attaching fan to blower motor. Remove fan from blower motor. To install, reverse removal procedure.

Disconnect negative battery cable. Remove 2 glove box hinge pins and glove box. Disconnect blower motor resistor connector. Remove screw and resistor from blower motor case. To install, reverse removal procedure.

  1. Disconnect negative battery cable. Remove ashtray. Remove heater control panel knobs. Pull heater control panel front plate and illumination bulb straight out from instrument panel. Remove 4 attaching screws and center trim bezel.
  2. Disconnect temperature control cable at heater case and fresh/recirculated air cable at blower case. Disconnect blower switch connector. Remove heater control panel from instrument panel. Remove blower speed selector switch from heater control panel. To install, reverse removal procedure.
  1. Disable air bag system. See AIR BAG SYSTEM SAFETY article in GENERAL SERVICING. Remove 2 glove box hinge pins and glove box. Remove hood release handle screws. Remove passenger's air bag module. Remove plastic retaining clips and screws and remove parking brake lever bezel from center console.
  2. Disconnect electrical connectors from center console. Remove center console retaining clips and screws and remove center console. Remove ashtray. Remove heater control panel knobs. Pull heater control panel front plate and illumination bulb straight out from instrument panel. Remove 4 attaching screws and center trim bezel.
  3. Remove 4 screws and radio. Remove knee bolster trim panel and knee bolster from instrument panel. Remove 2 screws and knee bolster trim panel. Disconnect ignition switch connector. On models with A/T, remove parking brake lock cable from ignition switch by removing bracket retaining screw and "C" clip.
  4. On all models, remove steering column attaching bracket bolts. Remove bolt attaching steering shaft to lower steering shaft joint. Remove 2 steering column Torx bolts and remove column from vehicle. Remove instrument cluster bezel and cluster from instrument panel. Disconnect all connectors and speedometer cable from instrument cluster.
  5. Disconnect mode and temperature control cables from heater case. Disconnect fresh/recirculated air control cable from blower case. Ensure all wiring harness connectors necessary to remove instrument panel are disconnected. Remove screw attaching left side of instrument panel support beam to instrument panel. Remove screw on bottom left side of instrument panel.
  6. Remove instrument panel support beam covers and bolts. Remove 2 instrument panel screws from bottom of glove box opening. Remove front speaker grilles and instrument panel upper center cover with a screwdriver. Remove 3 upper instrument panel screws. Pull instrument panel from support member and remove from vehicle. To install, reverse removal procedure.
  1. Remove instrument panel. See «INSTRUMENT PANEL»(ref-97177-S22218825052001042600000) . Drain coolant from cooling system. Remove 2 bolts and right side instrument panel center support. Remove plastic retaining clips and screws and remove parking brake lever bezel from center console.
  2. Disconnect electrical connectors (if equipped) from center console. Remove center console retaining clips and screws and remove center console to gain access to air bag Sensing and Diagnostic Module (SDM). Remove 2 side attaching bolts from SDM bracket and remove bracket. Disconnect all cables and ducts from heater case.
  3. Remove 2 screws and set relay bracket out of the way. Remove heater case attaching nuts from engine compartment side of firewall. Remove heater case from vehicle. Remove screws and clips from heater case. Separate heater case into halves and remove heater core from case. To install, reverse removal procedure.
