Programming and Setup - All Systems: Removal & Installation Chevrolet Silverado Classic 2500 HD

Communication Interface Module Replacement

If the OnStar® communication interface module is replaced, the setup procedure needs to be performed. Please refer to OnStar Reconfiguration (w/o SPS Programming) .

Radio Replacement

If the digital radio receiver is replaced, the following procedure must be performed

Perform the digital radio receiver setup. Refer to Digital Radio Receiver Setup .

EBCM Replacement

If the electronic brake control module (EBCM) is replaced, the following procedures must be performed

Revise the tire calibration using the Scan Tool Tire Size calibration function.

ECM Replacement

If the engine control module (ECM) is replaced, the following procedures must be performed

  1. Capture and restore the Option data.
  2. The ECM Reprogramming-Refer to «Service Programming System (SPS)»(ref-277885-S30676964602008012100000) .
  3. The Turbocharger Learn Procedure-Refer to «Turbocharger Learn»(ref-277871-S39576691672008012100000) .
  4. Theft Deterrent-Refer to «Programming Theft Deterrent System Components»(ref-277887-S26072662132008012100000) .
  5. The Fuel Injector Flow Rate Programming-Refer to «Fuel Injector Flow Rate Programming»(ref-277871-S04760390982008012100000) .
  6. Engine Oil Life Remaining-When available, use a scan tool to reset the Engine Oil Life Remaining back to the original percentage recorded before the module was reprogrammed.
  7. Transmission Fluid Life Remaining-When available, use a scan tool to reset the Transmission Fluid Life Remaining back to the original percentage recorded before the module was reprogrammed.
  8. Fuel Filter Life Remaining-When available, use a scan tool to reset the Fuel Filter Life Remaining back to the original percentage recorded before the module was reprogrammed.

Setup for Component Replacement

The replacement of some components will require a setup procedure for complete repair.

If any of the following components are replaced, a Turbocharger Learn Procedure must be performed.

  1. Turbocharger
  2. Turbocharger Vane Position Sensor.
  3. Turbocharger Vane Position Control Solenoid Valve

GPCM Replacement

If the glow plug controller (GPCM) is replaced, the following procedures must be performed.

  1. «Fuel Injector Flow Rate Programming»(ref-277871-S04760390982008012100000) for fuel injector flow rate programming
  2. «Service Programming System (SPS)»(ref-277885-S30676964602008012100000) for GPCM programming

The replacement of some components will require a setup procedure for complete repair.

If any of the following components are replaced, the Fuel Injector Flow Rate Programming must be performed. Refer to Fuel Injector Flow Rate Programming .

  1. Fuel injector
  2. Engine control module (ECM)
  3. GPCM

HVAC Control Module Replacement

If the HVAC control module is replaced, an automatic re-calibration of all the actuators will occur. No additional procedures are necessary.

Actuator Replacement

If an actuator is replaced, the following procedure must be performed

  1. Re-Calibrating Actuators-Refer to «Actuator Recalibration»(ref-277856-S14092445702008012100000) for the manual system.
  2. Re-Calibrating Actuators-Refer to «Actuator Recalibration»(ref-277856-S14092445702008012100000) for the automatic system.

Power Steering Pump Replacement (HP2)

If the electro-hydraulic power steering pump is replaced, the following procedure must be performed

W/ HP2-Calibrate the brake pedal position sensor. Refer to Brake Pedal Position Sensor Calibration .

PCM Replacement

If the powertrain control module (PCM) is replaced, the following procedures must be performed

  1. The PCM Reprogramming-Refer to «Service Programming System (SPS)»(ref-277885-S30676964602008012100000) .
  2. The CKP Variation Learn-Refer to the appropriate procedure: «Crankshaft Position System Variation Learn»(ref-277873-S20031840482008012100000) for the 4.3L (LU3) engine. «Crankshaft Position System Variation Learn»(ref-277872-S37476367202008012100000) for the 4.8L, 5.3L, 6.0L (LR4, LM7, LQ4, LQ9, or L59) engine. «Crankshaft Position System Variation Learn»(ref-277874-S33090055312008012100000) for the 8.1L (L18) engine.
  3. The Theft Deterrent Programming-Refer to «Programming Theft Deterrent System Components»(ref-277909-S22548801252008012100000) .
  4. The Fuel Composition Diagnostic-Refer to «Fuel Composition Diagnosis»(ref-277893-S24630725732008012100000) for the 5.3L (L59).

The replacement of some components will require a setup procedure for complete repair.

If any of the following components are replaced, a CKP Variation Learn Procedure must be performed.

  1. Engine Replacement
  2. Any engine repair that disturbs the CKP sensor or it's relationship with the crankshaft reluctor wheel
  3. CKP Sensor

If the radio is replaced, the new radio must have the setup procedure performed. Refer to Radio Setup (With RPO UM8) .

Transfer Case Shift Control Module Replacement

If the transfer case shift control module is replaced, the transfer case shift control module reprogramming procedure must be performed. Refer to Service Programming System (SPS) .

Transmission Control Module (TCM) Replacement

If the TCM is replaced, TCM Reprogramming must be performed. Refer to Service Programming System (SPS) .
