CHECKING FLUID LEVELS

CAUTIONWhen performing the following procedure, use only hand tools to remove and install the drain and fill plugs.
  1. Raise and suitably support the vehicle.
  2. Remove the transfer case shield, if equipped. See «TRANSFER CASE SHIELD»(ref-155026-S06830641402003061000000).
  3. Remove the fill plug. (Scheme 13)
  4. Check fluid level. Make sure fluid is up to bottom of fill plug.
  5. Fill transfer case with appropriate fluid to appropriate level, if necessary. See «RECOMMENDED FLUIDS»(ref-155026-S29968257902003061000000) and «FLUID CAPACITIES»(ref-155026-S30950276262003061000000).
  6. Install fill plug. (Scheme 13) Tighten plug to specification. See «TORQUE SPECIFICATIONS»(ref-155026-S01643392932003061000000).
  7. Install the transfer case shield, if equipped. See «TRANSFER CASE SHIELD»(ref-155026-S06830641402003061000000).
  8. Lower the vehicle.

TRANSFER CASE FLUID TYPE

DRAINING & REFILLING

CAUTIONWhen performing the following procedure, use only hand tools to remove and install the drain and fill plugs.
  1. Raise and support vehicle.
  2. Remove the transfer case shield, if equipped. See «TRANSFER CASE SHIELD»(ref-155026-S06830641402003061000000).
  3. Remove filler plug located on rear of transfer case. (Scheme 13)
  4. Remove drain plug from bottom of transfer case. (Scheme 14) NOTE: Ensure that an approved drain pan is used when draining the transfer case.
  5. Allow fluid to fully drain. CAUTION: Use only drain and fill plugs that are made from aluminum. Steel or brass plugs are not compatible with the magnesium case.
  6. Reinstall drain plug. (Scheme 14) Tighten plug to specification. See «TORQUE SPECIFICATIONS»(ref-155026-S01643392932003061000000).
  7. Fill transfer case through oil filler plug hole to specified capacity using recommended fluid. See «RECOMMENDED FLUIDS»(ref-155026-S29968257902003061000000) and «FLUID CAPACITIES»(ref-155026-S30950276262003061000000).
  8. Ensure fluid is level with bottom edge of filler plug hole.
  9. Reinstall filler plug. (Scheme 13) Tighten plug to specification. See «TORQUE SPECIFICATIONS»(ref-155026-S01643392932003061000000).
  10. Install the transfer case shield, if equipped. See «TRANSFER CASE SHIELD»(ref-155026-S06830641402003061000000).
  11. Lower vehicle.
