Ventilation

Airflow is discharged from the upper instrument panel outlets.

Bi-Level

Airflow is discharged from upper instrument panel outlets and floor outlets. Airflow from floor outlets is warmer than airflow from upper instrument panel outlets.

Defrost

Airflow is discharged from defrost outlets. A small amount is delivered to side window and floor outlets.

Most of the of airflow is discharged from floor outlets, with a small amount being delivered to windshield defrost outlets.

Heat/Defrost

A portion of the airflow is delivered to floor outlets and side window outlets, with the remaining air being delivered to the windshield defrost outlets.

FRESH/RECIRCULATED AIR CONTROL LEVER

The fresh/recirculated air control lever mechanically operates a cable which opens or closes the fresh/recirculated air mode door to fresh (outside) air. When fresh/recirculated air lever is set to fresh, outside air is delivered to vehicle interior. With lever in fresh air mode, as vehicle speed increases, airflow through system increases.

When lever is in recirculated air position, outside air is shut off and air from inside passenger compartment is recirculated through the blower motor to selected air outlets. (Scheme 1)and (Scheme 2). Vehicle is equipped with full time outside air, a small amount of air enters passenger compartment in all modes of operation.

BLOWER SPEED SELECTOR SWITCH

The blower speed selector switch operates blower motor at one of 5 speeds: OFF, low, medium-low (M1), medium-high (M2) and high.

TEMPERATURE CONTROL LEVER

When temperature control lever is moved to full hot position, the air mix door opens fully, allowing all airflow through heater core to selected outlets. (Scheme 2) In full cold position, the air mix door closes off airflow through heater core. Adjusting the air temperature control lever allows regulation of temperature by allowing more or less air to by-pass heater core.

TEMPERATURE CONTROL CABLE

Disconnect temperature control cable from clip and door at heater case. Set temperature lever to full cold position. At heater case, push door lever fully forward (counterclockwise) and attach cable with cable clip. (Scheme 3) Check temperature lever for smooth operation and ensure that it stops in correct spots.

MODE CONTROL CABLE

Disconnect mode control cable from clip and door at heater case. Set mode lever to vent position. At heater case, push door lever fully forward (counterclockwise) and attach cable with cable clip. (Scheme 3) Check mode lever for smooth operation and ensure that it stops in correct spots.

FRESH/RECIRCULATED AIR CONTROL CABLE

Disconnect fresh/recirculated air control cable from clip and door at blower case. Set fresh/recirculated air lever to recirculated air position. At blower case, push door lever fully rearward (counterclockwise) and attach cable with cable clip. (Scheme 3) Check fresh/recirculated air lever for smooth operation and ensure that it stops in correct spots.

BLOWER CONTROL SYSTEM CHECK

Turn ignition switch to ON position. Move blower speed selector switch from low to high positions and listen for increase in blower motor speed at each switch position. Move blower speed selector switch from high to low positions and listen for decrease in blower motor speed. If blower motor is inoperative in any or all speeds, go to appropriate diagnostic procedure.
