Removal
- Disconnect negative battery cable. Using approved refrigerant recovery/recycling equipment, recover A/C refrigerant. Remove serpentine drive belt. Drain cooling system. Remove upper and lower radiator hoses. Loosen, but DO NOT remove, A/C compressor upper bolts. Install Engine Support Fixture (J-38467-360). Raise and support vehicle. Drain crankcase. Remove right front wheel and inner splash shield. Disconnect ABS wheel speed sensor connector.
- Separate right ball joint stud from steering knuckle. Disconnect stabilizer shaft link from right control arm and suspension support. Put an adjustable floor stand under right suspension support. Remove bolts securing right suspension support to body. Lower right suspension support and control arm as an assembly. Remove right outer tie rod cotter pin and nut. Separate rod from spindle.
- Remove A/C compressor lower bolts, and position A/C compressor aside with hoses attached. Remove evaporator-to-accumulator A/C line. Remove engine mount strut bracket. Remove brace between engine and transaxle. Remove crankshaft balancer. See «FRONT COVER»(ref-97546-S41605228002001050900000) . Remove oil filter, starter, and flexplate/flywheel cover. Remove oil pan side bolts, oil pan bottom bolts, gasket, and oil pan.
Clean gasket surfaces of oil pan and cylinder block. Apply RTV sealant to tab grooves in rear main bearing. Install oil pan and NEW gasket. Tighten oil pan bottom bolts to specification, then tighten oil pan side bolts. See TORQUE SPECIFICATIONS . To complete installation, reverse removal procedure. Fill crankcase. Fill and bleed cooling system. See COOLING SYSTEM BLEEDING .
