DW-110-060 Engine Assembly Support Fixture

Removal Procedure

  1. Support the powertrain using the support fixture. This fixture is used to keep the powertrain from rocking fore/aft once the front and rear mounts are disconnected. Refer to «Engine Support Fixture»(/chevrolet/equinox/ii-2009-2015/remont/mechanical/#engine-mechanical-24l__engine-support-fixture) , for the 2.2L or 2.4L engine or «Engine Support Fixture»(/chevrolet/equinox/ii-2009-2015/remont/mechanical/#engine-mechanical-30l-repair-instructions-on-vehicle__engine-support-fixture) for the 2.8L, 3.0L, 3.2L or 3.6L engine.
  2. Remove the front wheels. Refer to «Tire and Wheel Removal and Installation»(/chevrolet/equinox/ii-2009-2015/remont/wheel-tire-system/#tires-and-wheels) .
  3. Disconnect the front control arm ball joint from the knuckle. Refer to «Lower Control Arm Ball Joint Replacement»(/chevrolet/equinox/ii-2009-2015/remont/suspension-front/#front-suspension-system) .
  4. Remove the front exhaust pipe assembly. Refer to «Catalytic Converter Replacement (LEA-FWD)»(/chevrolet/equinox/ii-2009-2015/remont/exhaust/#engine-exhaust-system) , «Catalytic Converter Replacement (LEA-AWD)»(/chevrolet/equinox/ii-2009-2015/remont/exhaust/#engine-exhaust-system__catalytic-converter-replacement-lea-awd) , for the 2.2L or 2.4L engine or «Exhaust Flexible Pipe Replacement (LFW)»(/chevrolet/equinox/ii-2009-2015/remont/exhaust/#engine-exhaust-system) for the 2.8L, 3.0L, 3.2L or 3.6L engine.
  5. Remove the propeller shaft, if equipped. Refer to «Propeller Shaft Replacement»(/chevrolet/equinox/ii-2009-2015/remont/driveshaft-universal-joints/#propeller-shaft-and-universal-joints) .
  6. Secure the upper part of the radiator with mechanics wire.
  7. Disconnect the 2 stabilizer shaft links from the struts. Refer to «Stabilizer Shaft Link Replacement»(/chevrolet/equinox/ii-2009-2015/remont/suspension-front/#front-suspension-system) .
  8. If equipped with hydraulic power steering, remove the steering gear to front suspension crossmember bolts.
  9. If equipped with rack electronic power steering, disconnect the electrical connectors and remove the steering gear with the drivetrain and front suspension frame. Refer to «Steering Gear Replacement (3.0L)»(/chevrolet/equinox/ii-2009-2015/remont/manual-power-steering/#power-steering-system) , «Steering Gear Replacement (2.4L)»(/chevrolet/equinox/ii-2009-2015/remont/manual-power-steering/#power-steering-system) .
  10. Support the front suspension crossmember by a jack stand.
  11. Remove the front suspension crossmember to transmission rear mount bracket bolts.
  12. Remove the transmission front mount to front suspension crossmember bolt and disconnect the mount from the frame.
  13. Remove the front suspension crossmember to body bolts.
  14. Remove the front suspension crossmember support bracket to body bolts.
  15. Lower the front suspension crossmember slowly with care. Rotate the stabilizer shaft properly in order to have enough space.
  16. Remove the stabilizer shaft. Refer to «Stabilizer Shaft Replacement»(/chevrolet/equinox/ii-2009-2015/remont/suspension-front/#front-suspension-system) .
  17. Remove the 2 control arms. Refer to «Lower Control Arm Replacement»(/chevrolet/equinox/ii-2009-2015/remont/suspension-front/#front-suspension-system__lower-control-arm-replacement) .

Installation Procedure

  1. Install the 2 front control arms. Refer to «Lower Control Arm Replacement»(/chevrolet/equinox/ii-2009-2015/remont/suspension-front/#front-suspension-system__lower-control-arm-replacement) .
  2. Install the stabilizer shaft. Refer to «Stabilizer Shaft Replacement»(/chevrolet/equinox/ii-2009-2015/remont/suspension-front/#front-suspension-system) .
  3. Raise the front suspension crossmember slowly with care using a jack stand. Rotate the stabilizer shaft properly in order to settle the front suspension crossmember in the correct position.
  4. If equipped with rack electronic power steering, install the steering gear. Refer to «Steering Gear Replacement (3.0L)»(/chevrolet/equinox/ii-2009-2015/remont/manual-power-steering/#power-steering-system) , «Steering Gear Replacement (2.4L)»(/chevrolet/equinox/ii-2009-2015/remont/manual-power-steering/#power-steering-system) .
  5. Install the front suspension crossmember support bracket and front suspension crossmember to body bolts. Tighten the front suspension crossmember to body bolts to 155 N.m (114 lb ft). Tighten the front suspension crossmember support bracket to body bolts to 50 N.m (37 lb ft).
  6. Install the front suspension crossmember to transmission rear mount bolts and tighten to 110 N.m (81 lb ft).
  7. Install the transmission front mount to transmission bolts and tighten to 50 N.m (37 lb ft).
  8. Install the front suspension crossmember to transmission front mount bolt and tighten to 110 N.m (81 lb ft).
  9. Install the transmission rear mount to transmission bolts and tighten to 50 N.m (37 lb ft).
  10. Install the front suspension crossmember to transmission rear mount through bolt and tighten to 110 N.m (81 lb ft).
  11. If equipped with hydraulic power steering, install the power steering gear to front suspension crossmember bolts and tighten to 110 N.m (81 lb ft).
  12. Connect the 2 stabilizer shaft links to the struts. Refer to «Stabilizer Shaft Link Replacement»(/chevrolet/equinox/ii-2009-2015/remont/suspension-front/#front-suspension-system) .
  13. Install the front exhaust pipe assembly. Refer to «Catalytic Converter Replacement (LEA-FWD)»(/chevrolet/equinox/ii-2009-2015/remont/exhaust/#engine-exhaust-system) , «Catalytic Converter Replacement (LEA-AWD)»(/chevrolet/equinox/ii-2009-2015/remont/exhaust/#engine-exhaust-system__catalytic-converter-replacement-lea-awd) , for the 2.2L or 2.4L engine or «Exhaust Flexible Pipe Replacement (LFW)»(/chevrolet/equinox/ii-2009-2015/remont/exhaust/#engine-exhaust-system) for the 2.8L, 3.0L, 3.2L or 3.6L engine.
  14. Connect the front control arm ball joint to the knuckle. Refer to «Lower Control Arm Replacement»(/chevrolet/equinox/ii-2009-2015/remont/suspension-front/#front-suspension-system__lower-control-arm-replacement) .
  15. Install the front wheels. Refer to «Tire and Wheel Removal and Installation»(/chevrolet/equinox/ii-2009-2015/remont/wheel-tire-system/#tires-and-wheels) .
  16. Remove the engine support fixture. Refer to «Engine Support Fixture»(/chevrolet/equinox/ii-2009-2015/remont/mechanical/#engine-mechanical-24l__engine-support-fixture) , for the 2.2L or 2.4L engine or «Engine Support Fixture»(/chevrolet/equinox/ii-2009-2015/remont/mechanical/#engine-mechanical-30l-repair-instructions-on-vehicle__engine-support-fixture) for the 2.8L, 3.0L, 3.2L or 3.6L engine.
  17. Measure and adjust the front toe. Refer to «Wheel Alignment - Steering Wheel Angle and/or Front Toe Adjustment»(/chevrolet/equinox/ii-2009-2015/remont/wheel-alignment/#wheel-alignment-system__wheel-alignment-steering-wheel-angle) .

Drivetrain and Front Suspension Frame Insulator Replacement

Special Tools

CH-47672-A Frame Insulator Remover/Installer

For equivalent regional tools, refer to Special Tools .

  1. Remove the frame from the vehicle. Refer to «Drivetrain and Front Suspension Frame Replacement»(/chevrolet/equinox/ii-2009-2015/remont/frames-subframes-crossmembers/#frame-and-underbody__drivetrain-and-front-suspension-frame-replacement) .
  2. Remove the upper frame insulator (1)
  3. For the removal of a front frame insulator, assemble the CH-47672-A press as shown.
  4. Use the CH-47672-A press to remove the front frame insulator from the frame.
  5. To remove a rear insulator, cut out frame insulator core (1) from frame insulator (2).
  6. Remove the rear frame insulator core (1) from the outer frame insulator (2).
  7. Remove the rear frame insulator from the drivetrain and front suspension frame using a chisel or equivalent.
  1. Clean the frame insulator opening.
  2. Apply thin coat of rubber lubricant GM P/N 1051717 (Canadian P/N 5728223), or equivalent to the inside of the frame insulator opening and to the insulator.
  3. Install the CH-47672-A clamp to the bushing. Align the clamp screws with the split portion of the bushing. Position the edge of the clamp where the bushing chamfer blends with the straight section of the bushing. Alternately tighten the clamp screws until the split edges of the bushing are parallel and almost touching.
  4. Install the frame insulator to the front frame opening with the insulator splits aligned in a forward and rearward direction relative to the vehicle.
  5. Assemble the CH-47672-A clamp and the frame insulator as shown to the frame.
  6. Use the CH-47672-A press to begin installing the frame insulator into the frame. STOP and remove the CH-47672-A clamp (1) before the clamp becomes trapped between the CH-47672-A press and frame.
  7. Use the CH-47672-A press to finish installing the frame insulator into the frame.
  8. Remove the CH-47672-A remover/installer from the insulator and frame. Inspect and confirm that the insulator (2) is in direct contact with the frame (1).
  9. Install the upper frame insulator (1).
  10. Install the frame to the vehicle. Refer to «Drivetrain and Front Suspension Frame Replacement»(/chevrolet/equinox/ii-2009-2015/remont/frames-subframes-crossmembers/#frame-and-underbody__drivetrain-and-front-suspension-frame-replacement) .

Rear Support Replacement (AWD)

J-37043 Park Brake Cable Release Tool

  1. Place the park brake lever in the release position.
  2. Raise and support the vehicle. Refer to «Lifting and Jacking the Vehicle»(/chevrolet/equinox/ii-2009-2015/remont/ignition-switchsteering-lock/#general-information) .
  3. Remove the tires and wheels. Refer to «Tire and Wheel Removal and Installation»(/chevrolet/equinox/ii-2009-2015/remont/wheel-tire-system/#tires-and-wheels) .
  4. Remove the exhaust muffler. Refer to «Exhaust Muffler Replacement»(/chevrolet/equinox/ii-2009-2015/remont/exhaust/#engine-exhaust-system) .
  5. Disconnect the rear park brake cables from the park brake actuators.
  6. Using the J-37043 release tool, remove the park brake cables from the mounting brackets
  7. Position the rear park brake cables aside.
  8. Disconnect the rear wheel speed sensor electrical connectors and routing clips from the rear support and upper control arms. Position the wiring harness aside.
  9. Remove the rear brake hose bracket nut and bolt.
  10. Remove the brake calipers and brackets as assemblies and support them with heavy mechanics wire or equivalent. Refer to «Rear Brake Caliper Bracket Replacement»(/chevrolet/equinox/ii-2009-2015/remont/mechanical-hydraulic/#disc-brake-system) .
  11. Remove the rear park brake cable routing bolts from the trailing arms.
  12. While holding the stabilizer link with a wrench, remove the stabilizer link-to-lower control arm nut.
  13. Remove the trailing arms. Refer to «Trailing Arm Replacement»(/chevrolet/equinox/ii-2009-2015/remont/suspension-rear/#rear-suspension-system) .
  14. Remove the adjustment links. Refer to «Adjust Link Replacement»(/chevrolet/equinox/ii-2009-2015/remont/suspension-rear/#rear-suspension-system) .
  15. Remove the rear wheel drive shafts. Refer to «Rear Wheel Drive Shaft Replacement»(/chevrolet/equinox/ii-2009-2015/remont/axle-shafts/#wheel-drive-shafts__rear-wheel-drive-shaft-replacement) .
  16. Remove the rear differential. Refer to «Differential Replacement»(/chevrolet/equinox/ii-2009-2015/remont/differentials-drive-axles/#rear-drive-axle) .
  17. Position a transmission jack under the rear support and firmly secure the support to the jack with straps.
  18. Remove the 4 rear support to body bolts.
  19. Remove the rear support assembly from the vehicle.
  20. With the aid of an assistant, remove the rear support from the transmission jack and place it on the floor.
  1. If a new rear support is being installed, a transfer of components is necessary. Upper Control Arms Tighten the upper control arm to rear support nut and bolt to 160 N.m (118 lb ft). Lower Control Arms Tighten the lower control arm to rear support nut and bolt to 110 N.m (81 lb ft). Stabilizer bar and insulators Tighten the stabilizer shaft insulator clamp bolts to 70 N.m (52 lb ft). Tighten the stabilizer link to stabilizer shaft nut to 57 N.m (42 lb ft). Knuckles - Loosely install the upper and lower control arm to knuckle nuts/bolts. These fasteners will be tightened later in this procedure after the wheel driveshafts are installed.
  2. With the aid of an assistant, position the rear support onto the transmission jack and firmly secure the support to the jack with straps.
  3. Position the rear support assembly to the vehicle.
  4. Install the 4 rear support to body bolts and tighten to 170 N.m (125 lb ft).
  5. Install the rear differential. Refer to «Differential Replacement»(/chevrolet/equinox/ii-2009-2015/remont/differentials-drive-axles/#rear-drive-axle) .
  6. Install the rear wheel drive shafts. Refer to «Rear Wheel Drive Shaft Replacement»(/chevrolet/equinox/ii-2009-2015/remont/axle-shafts/#wheel-drive-shafts__rear-wheel-drive-shaft-replacement) .
  7. Install the adjustment links. Refer to «Adjust Link Replacement»(/chevrolet/equinox/ii-2009-2015/remont/suspension-rear/#rear-suspension-system) .
  8. Install the trailing arms. Refer to «Trailing Arm Replacement»(/chevrolet/equinox/ii-2009-2015/remont/suspension-rear/#rear-suspension-system) .
  9. While holding the stabilizer link, install the stabilizer link-to-lower control arm nut and tighten to 15 N.m (11 lb ft).
  10. Remove the supporting wire and position the brake caliper and bracket assemblies back onto the knuckles. Refer to «Rear Brake Caliper Bracket Replacement»(/chevrolet/equinox/ii-2009-2015/remont/mechanical-hydraulic/#disc-brake-system) .
  11. Install the rear brake hose bracket nut and bolt and tighten to 12 N.m (106 lb in).
  12. Position the wiring harness back to the original location, connect the routing clips to the rear support and upper control arms. Connect the rear wheel speed sensor electrical connectors.
  13. Connect the rear park brake cables through the mounting brackets and onto the park brake actuators.
  14. Install the rear park brake cable routing bolts to the trailing arms and tighten the bolts to 12 N.m (106 lb in).
  15. Install the exhaust muffler. Refer to «Exhaust Muffler Replacement»(/chevrolet/equinox/ii-2009-2015/remont/exhaust/#engine-exhaust-system) .
  16. Install the tires and wheels. Refer to «Tire and Wheel Removal and Installation»(/chevrolet/equinox/ii-2009-2015/remont/wheel-tire-system/#tires-and-wheels) .
  17. Check the rear alignment. Refer to «Wheel Alignment Measurement»(/chevrolet/equinox/ii-2009-2015/remont/wheel-alignment/#wheel-alignment-system__wheel-alignment-measurement) .

Rear Support Replacement (FWD)

Special Tools

J-37043 Park Brake Cable Release Tool

  1. Place the park brake lever in the release position.
  2. Raise and support the vehicle. Refer to «Lifting and Jacking the Vehicle»(/chevrolet/equinox/ii-2009-2015/remont/ignition-switchsteering-lock/#general-information) .
  3. Remove the tires and wheels. Refer to «Tire and Wheel Removal and Installation»(/chevrolet/equinox/ii-2009-2015/remont/wheel-tire-system/#tires-and-wheels) .
  4. Remove the exhaust muffler. Refer to «Exhaust Muffler Replacement»(/chevrolet/equinox/ii-2009-2015/remont/exhaust/#engine-exhaust-system) .
  5. Remove the rear park brake cable routing bolts from the trailing arms.
  6. Disconnect the rear park brake cables from the park brake actuators.
  7. Using the J-37043 release tool, remove the park brake cables from the mounting brackets.
  8. Position the rear park brake cables aside.
  9. Disconnect the rear wheel speed sensor electrical connectors and the routing clips from the rear support and upper control arms. Position the wiring harness aside.
  10. Remove the rear brake hose bracket nut and bolt.
  11. Remove the brake calipers and brackets as assemblies and support them with heavy mechanics wire or equivalent. Refer to «Rear Brake Caliper Bracket Replacement»(/chevrolet/equinox/ii-2009-2015/remont/mechanical-hydraulic/#disc-brake-system) .
  12. While holding the stabilizer link with a wrench, remove the stabilizer link-to-lower control arm nut.
  13. Remove the trailing arms. Refer to «Trailing Arm Replacement»(/chevrolet/equinox/ii-2009-2015/remont/suspension-rear/#rear-suspension-system) .
  14. Remove the adjustment links. Refer to «Adjust Link Replacement»(/chevrolet/equinox/ii-2009-2015/remont/suspension-rear/#rear-suspension-system) .
  15. Remove the coil springs. Refer to «Coil Spring Replacement»(/chevrolet/equinox/ii-2009-2015/remont/suspension-rear/#rear-suspension-system) .
  16. Position a transmission jack under the rear support and firmly secure the support to the jack with straps.
  17. Remove the 4 rear support to body bolts.
  18. Remove the rear support assembly from the vehicle.
  19. With the aid of an assistant, remove the rear support from the transmission jack and place it on the floor.

Stabilizer bar and insulators Tighten the stabilizer shaft insulator clamp bolts to 70 N.m (52 lb ft). Tighten the stabilizer link to stabilizer shaft nut to 57 N.m (42 lb ft). Knuckles - The lower control arm to knuckle bolt/nut will be installed and tightened when the coil spring is installed later in this procedure. Tighten upper control arm to knuckle bolt and nut to 160 N.m (118 lb ft).
  2. With the aid of an assistant, position the rear support onto the transmission jack and firmly secure the support to the jack with straps.
  3. Position the rear support assembly to the vehicle.
  4. Install the 4 rear support to body bolts and tighten to 170 N.m (125 lb ft).
  5. Install the coil springs. Refer to «Coil Spring Replacement»(/chevrolet/equinox/ii-2009-2015/remont/suspension-rear/#rear-suspension-system) .
  6. Install the adjustment links. Refer to «Adjust Link Replacement»(/chevrolet/equinox/ii-2009-2015/remont/suspension-rear/#rear-suspension-system) .
  7. Install the trailing arms. Refer to «Trailing Arm Replacement»(/chevrolet/equinox/ii-2009-2015/remont/suspension-rear/#rear-suspension-system) .
  8. While holding the stabilizer link, install the stabilizer link-to-lower control arm nut and tighten to 15 N.m (11 lb ft).
  9. Remove the supporting wire and position the brake caliper and bracket assemblies back onto the knuckles. Refer to «Rear Brake Caliper Bracket Replacement»(/chevrolet/equinox/ii-2009-2015/remont/mechanical-hydraulic/#disc-brake-system) .
  10. Install the rear brake hose bracket nut and bolt and tighten to 12 N.m (106 lb in).
  11. Position the wiring harness back to the original location, connect the routing clips to the rear support and upper control arms. Connect the rear wheel speed sensor electrical connectors.
  12. Connect the rear park brake cables through the mounting brackets and onto the park brake actuators.
  13. Install the rear park brake cable routing bolts to the trailing arms and tighten to 12 N.m (106 lb in).
  14. Install the exhaust muffler. Refer to «Exhaust Muffler Replacement»(/chevrolet/equinox/ii-2009-2015/remont/exhaust/#engine-exhaust-system) .
  15. Install the tires and wheels. Refer to «Tire and Wheel Removal and Installation»(/chevrolet/equinox/ii-2009-2015/remont/wheel-tire-system/#tires-and-wheels) .
  16. Check the rear alignment. Refer to «Wheel Alignment Measurement»(/chevrolet/equinox/ii-2009-2015/remont/wheel-alignment/#wheel-alignment-system__wheel-alignment-measurement) .
