Removal Procedure

  1. Remove the rear roof bow center interior trim panel. Refer to «Rear Roof Bow Trim Panel Replacement»(/chevrolet/corvette/c6-2004-2014/remont/exteriorinterior-trim/#interior-trim-and-paneling) .
  2. Mark the location of the locator bracket.
  3. Remove the locator bracket mounting bolts.
  4. Remove the locator and bracket.
  5. Mark the location of the locator.
  6. Remove the locator from the bracket.

Installation Procedure

  1. Install the rear locator to the locator bracket. Tighten: Tighten the roof rear locator to locator bracket bolts to 10 N.m (89 lb in).
  2. Install the bracket with the locator to the roof center bow. Tighten: Tighten the roof rear locator bracket bolts to 50 N.m (37 lb ft).
  3. Check and adjust the roof panel as necessary. Refer to «Roof Lift Off Panel Adjustment»(/chevrolet/corvette/c6-2004-2014/remont/sun-rooft-topconvertible-top/#removable-top-system__roof-lift-off-panel-adjustment) .
  4. Install the roof bow center interior trim panel. Refer to «Rear Roof Bow Trim Panel Replacement»(/chevrolet/corvette/c6-2004-2014/remont/exteriorinterior-trim/#interior-trim-and-paneling) .
  1. Apply tape to the edge of the roof panel to protect the panel.
  2. Remove the molding by placing a block of wood against the molding and tapping the block of wood with a hammer.
  1. Align the locator on the molding to the corresponding locator on the edge of the roof panel.
  2. Install the molding by lightly tapping with a rubber mallet until fully seated.
  3. Remove the protective tape from the roof panel.
  1. Position the sunshades to the side to access the front latches.
  2. Pull down the front handles and rotate them toward the center of the vehicle.
  3. Depress the rear latch release button and rotate the rear latch lever down and forward.
  4. Lift the front of the roof panel and slide the roof panel forward releasing the roof locator pins from the rear locator brackets.
  1. Place the roof panel on a protective surface.
  2. Transfer all necessary parts to the new roof panel.
  3. Position the sunshades to the side.
  4. Rotate the roof panel front and rear latch handles to their fully open positions.
  5. Position the rear edge of the roof panel in the roof opening on top of the rear weatherstrip.
  6. Align the rear edge of the roof panel weatherstrip with the receiving cup in the roof rear weatherstrip.
  7. Lower the front of the roof panel inserting the pins into the front latch strikers.
  8. Adjust the roof panel. Refer to «Roof Lift Off Panel Adjustment»(/chevrolet/corvette/c6-2004-2014/remont/sun-rooft-topconvertible-top/#removable-top-system__roof-lift-off-panel-adjustment) .
  9. Engage the front latch handles.
  10. Engage the rear latch.

Roof Lift Off Panel Adjustment

  1. Perform one or more of the following five adjustment procedures to properly align the roof lift off panel.
  2. To adjust the front striker for up down roof alignment perform the following steps
  3. Remove the windshield upper garnish molding. Refer to «Windshield Upper Garnish Molding Replacement»(/chevrolet/corvette/c6-2004-2014/remont/exteriorinterior-trim/#interior-trim-and-paneling) . For major up down roof adjustment loosen the striker bolts and reposition the latch striker up or down. For minor up or down roof adjustment loosen the striker outboard bolt and slightly loosen the inboard bolt, pivot the striker on the inboard bolt in 2 mm (0.08 in) increments up or down. CAUTION: Refer to «Fastener Caution»(/chevrolet/corvette/c6-2004-2014/remont/oem-general-information/#dangers-warnings-and-cautions__fastener-caution) . Tighten the striker bolts. Tighten: Tighten the roof front latch handle striker bolts to 10 N.m (89 lb in). When the striker is properly adjusted the handle will snap closed.
  4. Install the windshield upper garnish molding. Refer to «Windshield Upper Garnish Molding Replacement»(/chevrolet/corvette/c6-2004-2014/remont/exteriorinterior-trim/#interior-trim-and-paneling) .
  5. To adjust the front latch handle forward or rearward perform the following steps: Loosen the latch handle bolts. Position the latch handle forward or rearward. Maintain a minimum of 2 mm (0.08 in) clearance between latch handle and the latch striker to avoid squeaks and rattles. Assure the latch handle base is parallel to the striker to provide clearance to the sunshade mirror door. Tighten the latch handle bolts. Tighten: Tighten the roof front latch handle bolts to 13 N.m (10 lb ft).
  6. For major rear latch adjustment adjust the rear latch striker performing the following steps: Remove the roof lift off panel. Remove the roof bow center interior trim panel. Refer to «Rear Roof Bow Trim Panel Replacement»(/chevrolet/corvette/c6-2004-2014/remont/exteriorinterior-trim/#interior-trim-and-paneling) . Loosen the rear latch striker attaching bolts. Adjust the position of the latch striker forward or rearward for major adjustment. Tighten the striker attaching bolts. Tighten: Tighten the roof rear striker bolts to 10 N.m (89 lb in). Install the roof lift off panel.
  7. For minor rear latch adjustment, adjust the latch handle hook one turn at a time to achieve moderate pressure to the latch as follows. Remove the roof lift off panel. Loosen the set screw locking the latch hook. Turn the hook in to tighten or out to loosen. Tighten the set screw. Install the roof panel.
  8. To adjust the rear locator perform the following steps: With the roof installed on the vehicle loosen the locator mounting bolts. Reposition the locator. Tighten the mounting bolts. Tighten: Tighten the roof rear locator to locator bracket bolts to 10 N.m (89 lb in).
  1. Remove the roof lift off panel.
  2. Remove the roof panel rear locator pin from the roof panel.
  1. Install the rear roof panel locator pin. Tighten: Tighten the roof rear locator pin to 25 N.m (18 lb ft).
  2. Install the roof panel.
  1. Remove the roof panel, place the roof panel upside down on a flat protective surface.
  2. Remove the side weatherstrip. Refer to «Lift Off Panel Weatherstrip Replacement»(/chevrolet/corvette/c6-2004-2014/remont/sun-rooft-topconvertible-top/#removable-top-system) .
  3. Remove the screws attaching the retainer to the roof panel.
  4. Remove the retainer.
  1. Position the retainer to the roof panel, ensure that the molded end of the rubber is located towards the front of the roof panel.
  2. Install the forward screw aligning the retainer fore and aft.
  3. Install the remaining screws. Tighten: Tighten the side weatherstrip retainer screws to 3 N.m (27 lb in).
  4. Install the roof panel.
  1. Remove the roof panel.
  2. Remove the sunshade. Refer to «Sunshade Replacement»(/chevrolet/corvette/c6-2004-2014/remont/exteriorinterior-trim/#interior-trim-and-paneling) .
  3. Remove the side and upper garnish moldings. Refer to «Windshield Upper Garnish Molding Replacement»(/chevrolet/corvette/c6-2004-2014/remont/exteriorinterior-trim/#interior-trim-and-paneling) .
  4. Mark the location of the striker to aid in installation.
  5. Remove the bolts attaching the striker.
  6. Remove the striker.
  1. Align the striker with the marks made before removal.
  2. Install the striker attaching bolts. Tighten: Tighten the roof front latch handle striker bolts to 10 N.m (89 lb in).
  3. Install the upper and side garnish moldings. Refer to «Windshield Upper Garnish Molding Replacement»(/chevrolet/corvette/c6-2004-2014/remont/exteriorinterior-trim/#interior-trim-and-paneling) .
  4. Install the sunshade. Refer to «Sunshade Replacement»(/chevrolet/corvette/c6-2004-2014/remont/exteriorinterior-trim/#interior-trim-and-paneling) .
  5. Install the roof panel.
  6. Adjust if necessary. Refer to «Roof Lift Off Panel Adjustment»(/chevrolet/corvette/c6-2004-2014/remont/sun-rooft-topconvertible-top/#removable-top-system__roof-lift-off-panel-adjustment) .
  1. Remove the roof bow center interior trim panel. Refer to «Rear Roof Bow Trim Panel Replacement»(/chevrolet/corvette/c6-2004-2014/remont/exteriorinterior-trim/#interior-trim-and-paneling) .
  2. Mark the location of the striker.
  3. Remove the bolts attaching the striker.
  4. Remove the striker.
  1. Position the striker to the marks made before removal.
  2. Install the striker attaching bolts. Tighten: Tighten the roof rear latch striker bolts to 10 N.m (89 lb in).
  3. Install the roof bow center interior trim panel. Refer to «Rear Roof Bow Trim Panel Replacement»(/chevrolet/corvette/c6-2004-2014/remont/exteriorinterior-trim/#interior-trim-and-paneling) .
  1. Remove the roof lift off panel.
  2. Remove the weatherstrip from the weatherstrip retainer.
  1. Install the weatherstrip into the retainer.
  2. Install the roof panel.

Lift Off Panel Description

There are 2 roof lift off panels available. One roof panel is composed of a see through polycarbonate and the other roof panel is composed of SMC plastic painted to match the body color. Either of the roof lift off panels can be stored in the rear cargo compartment. Special egg shaped brackets on the floor of the rear cargo area support the rear of the stored roof panel. Release pins on the rear lift window panel latches secure the front of the stored roof panel.
