Hard failures cause SERVICE ENGINE/THROTTLE SOON light to glow and remain on until malfunction is repaired. If light comes on and remains on during vehicle operation, cause of malfunction must be determined using diagnostic charts located in appropriate TESTS W/CODES article. If a sensor fails, PCM/VCM uses a substitute value in its calculations to continue engine operation. Although vehicle is functional in this condition, driveability will probably be adversely affected.
