This DTC will set if the output of the in-car sensor indicates a probable short circuit or an open in the sensor or the associated wiring harness, or a malfunction of the automatic temperature control (ATC) controller.

- Perform the «Diagnostic Trouble Code (DTC) List - Vehicle»(/chevrolet/aveo/i-2006-2012/remont/oem-general-information/#vehicle-diagnostic-information__diagnostic-trouble-code-dtc-list) before using the symptom tables in order to verify that all of the following are true: There are no DTCs set. The control module(s) can communicate via the serial data link.
- Review the system operation in order to familiarize yourself with the system functions. Refer to «Automatic HVAC Description and Operation»(/chevrolet/aveo/i-2006-2012/remont/automatic-hvac-system/#hvac-system-automatic) .
Visual/Physical Inspection
- Inspect for aftermarket devices which could affect the operation of the HVAC System. Refer to «Checking Aftermarket Accessories»(/chevrolet/aveo/i-2006-2012/remont/body-electrical/#wiring-systems-and-power-management-inline-harness-connector-end-views-diagnosis__checking-aftermarket-accessories) .
- Inspect the easily accessible or visible system components for obvious damage or conditions which could cause the symptom.
- Verify the A/C compressor clutch turns freely and is not seized.
- Verify that the customer is using the correct key to enable personalization and is not inadvertently activating auxiliary HVAC controls.
- The following conditions may cause window fogging: Wet carpet or mats High humidity Interior water leak Blocked A/C evaporator drain tube Maximum passenger capacity Blocked body pressure relief valves
- Inspect the air distribution system for causes of reduced air flow: Obstructed or dirty passenger compartment air filter, if equipped Blocked or damaged air inlet or outlet vents
Intermittent
Faulty electrical connections or wiring may be the cause of intermittent conditions. Refer to Testing for Intermittent Conditions and Poor Connections .

Removal Procedure
- Disconnect the negative battery cable.
- Remove the audio system trim molding.
- Remove the lower HVAC control assembly trim molding.
- Remove the HVAC control assembly screws.
- Disconnect the electrical connectors.
- Remove the HVAC control assembly.
Installation Procedure
- Connect the electrical connectors.
- Position the HVAC control assembly on the center molding and install the retaining screws and tighten to 2 N.m (18 lb in).
- Install the audio trim panel.
- Connect the negative battery cable.
- Disconnect the negative battery cable.
- Remove the instrument panel assembly. Refer to «Instrument Panel Assembly Replacement (Notchback)»(/chevrolet/aveo/i-2006-2012/remont/gauges-instrument-panels/#instrument-panel-trim-and-console-trim) or «Instrument Panel Assembly Replacement (Hatchback)»(/chevrolet/aveo/i-2006-2012/remont/gauges-instrument-panels/#instrument-panel-trim-and-console-trim) .
- Disconnect the electrical connector.
- Remove the motor retaining screws.
- Remove the motor.
- Install the motor.
- Install the motor retaining bolts and tighten.
- Connect the electrical connector.
- Install the instrument panel assembly. Refer to «Instrument Panel Assembly Replacement (Notchback)»(/chevrolet/aveo/i-2006-2012/remont/gauges-instrument-panels/#instrument-panel-trim-and-console-trim) or «Instrument Panel Assembly Replacement (Hatchback)»(/chevrolet/aveo/i-2006-2012/remont/gauges-instrument-panels/#instrument-panel-trim-and-console-trim)
- Connect the negative battery cable.
- Disconnect the negative battery cable.
- Remove the heater core cover. Refer to «Heater Core Replacement (Hatchback)»(/chevrolet/aveo/i-2006-2012/remont/automatic-hvac-system/#heating-ventilation-and-air-conditioning) or «Heater Core Replacement (Notchback)»(/chevrolet/aveo/i-2006-2012/remont/automatic-hvac-system/#heating-ventilation-and-air-conditioning) .
- Disconnect the electrical connector.
- Remove the sensor retaining screws.
- Remove the sensor from the heater core pipe.
- Install the sensor with the retaining screws and tighten.
- Connect the electrical connector.
- Install the heater core cover. Refer to «Heater Core Replacement (Hatchback)»(/chevrolet/aveo/i-2006-2012/remont/automatic-hvac-system/#heating-ventilation-and-air-conditioning) or «Heater Core Replacement (Notchback)»(/chevrolet/aveo/i-2006-2012/remont/automatic-hvac-system/#heating-ventilation-and-air-conditioning) .
- Connect the negative battery cable.
- Disconnect the negative battery cable.
- Remove the instrument panel assembly. Refer to «Instrument Panel Assembly Replacement (Notchback)»(/chevrolet/aveo/i-2006-2012/remont/gauges-instrument-panels/#instrument-panel-trim-and-console-trim) or «Instrument Panel Assembly Replacement (Hatchback)»(/chevrolet/aveo/i-2006-2012/remont/gauges-instrument-panels/#instrument-panel-trim-and-console-trim) .
- Disconnect the electrical connector.
- Remove the motor actuating rod by snapping out it out of the lever with needle-nose pliers.
- Remove the motor retaining bolts.
- Remove the mode door motor.
- Install the mode door motor.
- Install the motor retaining screws and tighten.
- Install the actuating rod.
- Connect the electrical connector.
- Install the instrument panel assembly. Refer to «Instrument Panel Assembly Replacement (Notchback)»(/chevrolet/aveo/i-2006-2012/remont/gauges-instrument-panels/#instrument-panel-trim-and-console-trim) or «Instrument Panel Assembly Replacement (Hatchback)»(/chevrolet/aveo/i-2006-2012/remont/gauges-instrument-panels/#instrument-panel-trim-and-console-trim) .
- Connect the negative battery cable.
- Disconnect the negative battery cable.
- Remove the instrument panel assembly. Refer to «Instrument Panel Assembly Replacement (Notchback)»(/chevrolet/aveo/i-2006-2012/remont/gauges-instrument-panels/#instrument-panel-trim-and-console-trim) or «Instrument Panel Assembly Replacement (Hatchback)»(/chevrolet/aveo/i-2006-2012/remont/gauges-instrument-panels/#instrument-panel-trim-and-console-trim) .
- Disconnect the electrical connector.
- Remove the actuating rod by snapping it out of the lever with needle-nose pliers.
- Remove the air temperature actuator retaining screws.
- Remove the air temperature actuator.
- Install the air temperature actuator.
- Install the retaining screws and tighten.
- Install the actuating rod.
- Connect the electrical connector.
- Install the instrument panel assembly. Refer to «Instrument Panel Assembly Replacement (Notchback)»(/chevrolet/aveo/i-2006-2012/remont/gauges-instrument-panels/#instrument-panel-trim-and-console-trim) or «Instrument Panel Assembly Replacement (Hatchback)»(/chevrolet/aveo/i-2006-2012/remont/gauges-instrument-panels/#instrument-panel-trim-and-console-trim) .
- Connect the negative battery cable.
- Disconnect the negative battery.
- Remove the evaporator core. Refer to «Air Conditioning Evaporator Core Replacement»(/chevrolet/aveo/i-2006-2012/remont/automatic-hvac-system/#heating-ventilation-and-air-conditioning) .
- Remove the intake sensor with the connector.
- Install the intake sensor with the connector.
- Install the evaporator core. Refer to «Air Conditioning Evaporator Core Replacement»(/chevrolet/aveo/i-2006-2012/remont/automatic-hvac-system/#heating-ventilation-and-air-conditioning) .
- Connect the negative battery.
- Disconnect the negative battery cable.
- Remove the front bumper. Refer to «Front Bumper Fascia Replacement (Hatchback)»(/chevrolet/aveo/i-2006-2012/remont/exterior-body-panels/#bumper-system-fascia) or «Front Bumper Fascia Replacement (Notchback)»(/chevrolet/aveo/i-2006-2012/remont/exterior-body-panels/#bumper-system-fascia) .
- Disconnect the ambient air temperature sensor electrical connector.
- Remove the ambient air temperature sensor from the bracket.
- Install the ambient air temperature sensor into its bracket.
- Connect the electrical connector.
- Install the front bumper. Refer to «Front Bumper Fascia Replacement (Hatchback)»(/chevrolet/aveo/i-2006-2012/remont/exterior-body-panels/#bumper-system-fascia) or «Front Bumper Fascia Replacement (Notchback)»(/chevrolet/aveo/i-2006-2012/remont/exterior-body-panels/#bumper-system-fascia)
- Connect the negative battery cable.
- Disconnect the negative battery cable.
- Remove the instrument panel assembly. Refer to «Instrument Panel Assembly Replacement (Notchback)»(/chevrolet/aveo/i-2006-2012/remont/gauges-instrument-panels/#instrument-panel-trim-and-console-trim) or «Instrument Panel Assembly Replacement (Hatchback)»(/chevrolet/aveo/i-2006-2012/remont/gauges-instrument-panels/#instrument-panel-trim-and-console-trim)
- Disconnect the electrical connector.
- Remove the retaining screws.
- Remove the air inlet tube.
- Remove the inside air temperature sensor.
- Install the inside air temperature sensor with the retaining screws and tighten.
- Install the air inlet tube and connect the electrical connector.
- Install instrument panel assembly. Refer to «Instrument Panel Assembly Replacement (Notchback)»(/chevrolet/aveo/i-2006-2012/remont/gauges-instrument-panels/#instrument-panel-trim-and-console-trim) or «Instrument Panel Assembly Replacement (Hatchback)»(/chevrolet/aveo/i-2006-2012/remont/gauges-instrument-panels/#instrument-panel-trim-and-console-trim)
- Connect the negative battery cable.
- Disconnect the negative battery cable.
- Gently pry up on the sun load sensor to remove it.
- Secure the electrical connector to prevent it from falling beneath the dash.
- Disconnect the electrical connector and remove the sun load sensor.
- Connect the electrical connector.
- Insert and press the sun load sensor into position in the dash.
- Connect the negative battery cable.
Controller
The operation of the A/C system is controlled by the switches on the control head. This console-mounted heating and ventilation system consists of control knobs and a vacuum fluorescent display (VFD) indicating the status of the control settings selected.
Temperature Control Push Knobs
- Raise the temperature of the air entering the vehicle by turning the rotary switch clockwise (red arrow direction).
- Lower the temperature of the air entering the vehicle by turning the switch counterclockwise (blue arrow direction).
- Actuate the air mix door by an electric motor.
- Vary the mix of the air passing through the heater core with the air bypassing the core.
- Each press of a switch changes the set temperature by increments of 0.5°C (1°F). This is shown in the temperature window on the function display.
Vacuum Fluorescent Display (VFD)
- Temperature setting-Indicates the temperature set with temperature control knob.
- Auto status-Indicated whether the system is operating in the full automatic mode or manual mode.
- Defroster icon-Indicates manual selection of full defrost mode.
- Mode-Indicated by icon, the mode chosen by the system in auto (or by the operator in manual) is shown by an illumination arrow indicating the air path.
- A/C-A snowflake icon indicating whether the A/C is ON or OFF.
- Fan speed-Indicates the fan speed by illuminating a bar based on the segment at the front, for low speed, and adding additional segments in order up to the eighth, for high speed.
Seven Additional Push Knobs
- Full defrost-Causes the mode motors to direct all air to the windshield and aide window outlets for maximum defrosting.
- Air intake-Switches between fresh air intake, the default, and recirculating air. Airflow arrows on the display indicate the mode in effect.
- Full auto switch-Maintains the set temperature automatically. In this mode, the fully automatic temperature control (FATC) system controls the following: The air mix door motor The mode door motor The blower motor speed The inlet air door motor A/C ON/OFF
- OFF switch-Turns the automatic air conditioning and fan control off.
- Mode switch-Allows manual selection of the airflow direction. Selection is shown on the function display. Each time the mode switch is pressed, the next function is displayed.
- A/C switch-Allows manual selection and control of the air conditioning function.
- Defogger switch-Turns ON the electric defogging heater in the rear window and the outside rearview mirrors, if the vehicle is equipped with heated mirrors.
- Fan control rotary knob-Allows for manual selection of the fan speed.
Pressure Transducer
Pressure transducer switching incorporates the functions of the high-pressure and the low-pressure cutout switches along with the fan cycling switch. The pressure transducer is located in the high-side liquid refrigerant line behind the right strut tower, between the right strut tower and the front of dash. The output from this pressure transducer goes to the electronic control module (ECM), which controls the compressor function based on the pressure signal.
Wide-Open Throttle (WOT) Compressor Cutoff
During full-throttle acceleration, the throttle position (TP) sensor sends a signal to the ECM, which then controls the compressor clutch.
High RPM Cutoff
As engine RPM approached the maximum limit, the ECM will disengage the compressor clutch until the engine slows the a lower RPM.
