Installation Procedure

- Install the bracket (3) to the rear of the pump (1) Tighten Tighten the rear bracket retaining nuts to 50 N.m (37 lb ft).
- Install the power steering pump.
- Install the bolt retaining the rear bracket to the engine. Tighten Tighten the rear power steering bracket bolt to engine bracket to 50 N.m (37 lb ft).
- Install the bolts to the front of the pump. Tighten Tighten the bolts to 50 N.m (37 lb ft).
- Install the power steering pump return hoses (2,4) to the power steering pump and install the retaining clamps.
- Raise the vehicle. Refer to «LIFTING AND JACKING THE VEHICLE»(/chevrolet/avalanche/i-2001-2006/remont/hoistjack/#jacking-and-lifting-avalanche__lifting-and-jacking-the-vehicle) in General Information.
- Install the power steering pressure hose (2) to the power steering pump. Tighten Tighten the nut to 28 N.m (20 lb ft).
- Install the oil pan skid plate, if equipped.
- Install the oil pan skid plate bolts. Tighten Tighten the retaining bolts to 20 N.m (15 lb ft).
- Lower the vehicle.
- Install the intermediate shaft. Refer to INTERMEDIATE STEERING SHAFT REPLACEMENT - LOWER .
- Install the power steering pulley. Refer to «POWER STEERING PULLEY REPLACEMENT»(/chevrolet/avalanche/i-2001-2006/remont/manual-power-steering/#power-steering-system) .
- Fill and bleed the power steering system. Refer to «BLEEDING THE POWER STEERING SYSTEM»(/chevrolet/avalanche/i-2001-2006/remont/manual-power-steering/#power-steering-system) .

- Place a drain pan under the vehicle.
- Remove the power steering pulley. Refer to «POWER STEERING PULLEY REPLACEMENT»(/chevrolet/avalanche/i-2001-2006/remont/manual-power-steering/#power-steering-system) .
- Remove the nut (1) and clamp (3) retaining the filler neck (1) to the power steering pump, if equipped.
- Remove the bolts (2) from the front of the pump.
- Remove the bolts retaining the power steering mounting bracket.
- Remove the bolts (1) from the rear of the pump.
- Remove the power steering return hoses (2,4) from the power steering pump.
- Remove the power steering pressure hoses (2) from the power steering pump.
- Remove the pump from the vehicle.
- Remove the rear bracket from the power steering pump.

- Install the rear bracket to the power steering pump. Tighten Tighten the rear bracket retaining nuts to 50 N.m (37 lb ft).
- Install the power steering pump to the vehicle.
- Install the pressure hose (2) to the power steering pump. Tighten Tighten the hose fitting to 28 N.m (20 lb ft).
- Install the power steering return hoses (2,4) and retaining clamps to the power steering pump.
- Install the bolts (1) to the rear of the power steering pump. Tighten Tighten the rear bolts to 50 N.m (37 lb ft).
- Install the power steering pump mounting bracket bolts. Tighten Tighten the mounting bracket bolts to 50 N.m (37 lb ft).
- Install the bolts (2) to the front of the pump. Tighten Tighten the power steering pump retaining bolts to 50 N.m (37 lb ft).
- Install the filler neck to the power steering pump.
- Install the nut (1) and clamp (3) retaining the filler neck to the power steering pump. Tighten Tighten the filler neck retaining nut to 25 N.m (18 lb ft).
- Fill and bleed the power steering system. Refer to «BLEEDING THE POWER STEERING SYSTEM»(/chevrolet/avalanche/i-2001-2006/remont/manual-power-steering/#power-steering-system) .

- Drain the power steering fluid from the power steering pump.
- Remove the pump mounting studs (2).
- Remove the connector and fitting assembly (4).
- Remove the O-ring seal (3).
- If replacement is required, remove the control valve assembly (2) and the flow control spring (3) from the pump housing assembly (1).
- Remove the reservoir assembly (1) from the pump housing assembly (2).
- Remove the O-ring seals (1) (4) (5).
- Remove the magnet (3).
- Clean the magnet (3).
- Inspect the welch plug in the power steering pump housing (2). Do not remove. If the welch plug is deformed or dislodged, replace the power steering pump housing (2).
